Wander, were you actually expecting Magellan to have any consequence outside of of Impel Down?

Lapu Lapu was the Filipino tribal chief/king whose warriors killed Ferdinand Magellan in battle. I thought it was funny how his name fits the Devil Fruit naming convention.

I don't think it's unreasonable for Magellan to turn up again. Croc, Wapol, Enel, Lucci, and presumably Moriah are all doing things that will come up later, so if the Impel Down staff didn't come into play again, they'd be the odd ones out.

I don't see why they would, when their whole deal was keeping the prison secure. Like, I guess they'll show up during Doflamingo's inevitable jailbreak but after they fail, I'm not expecting for them to be important again.

Like, they're jailers, they have nothing besides that.

He could just like Mallegan. He's one of the few antagonist Luffy straight up couldn't beat and unlike most of the marines, he's not really a Knight Templar. Dude was just doing his job.

There's still a plot thread to follow regarding the escaped Level 6 inmates (besides the ones who that joined BB's crew). Magellan could still factor into that somehow; his sense of honor almost drove him to suicide after the breakout, so perhaps some future event could motivate him to leave the prison and hunt them down. He's not chief warden anymore, either, so it would be easier for him to leave.

Magellan did get demoted, too.

I have to wonder if Hannyabal's actually a more effective warden, given how much Authority Equals Asskicking in this series.

Pretty sure that was his choice. He didn't think he was worthy of the position anymore and he was grooming Hannaybel (or whatever) for the position, anyway.

Yakuzu seems to remember that I just straight up like Magellan, for the reasons stated.

It's just kinda shitty that his overall role in the story could boil down to "the reason Luffy has a poison immunity".

Plenty of Characters have a way lesser impact on the plot, you know.

I remembered you like Magellan, I just thought there was more to it.

But it's unfortunate when we like characters who really don't matter all that much.

I... actually don't think Sabo was a last minute addition to the arc, much as I don't like him. He first appears even before Rebecca wins D Block, and before that, even, we see his subordinate, the Fishman, calling someone on the Snailphone.

Well yeah once Kyros is back... Oda' paternal Dad instinct kicks in... but Rebecca's basically takes a dead end once Sabo effectively hijacks and ends the tournament angle cause LOL none of the Straw hats are in it anymore.

Sabo basically showed up to grab the fruit, become Ace 2.0 and run...

I don't see Sabo or Kyros as being responsible for a change in Rebecca's arc. I think it's more likely that it played out exactly as planned.

It was just a shitty plan.

I actually disagree; LSBK and I were talking about this via PM recently and we both find it likely that some things in Dressrosa were changed mid-arc so it could end on 100 chapters even. Dunno if Rebecca's arc was one of them but it's IMO one of the more likely candidates.

How do you think things were changed?

You know, if I knew how to make gifs, I 'd make one of that scene from the final episode of One Punch Man where Boros reacts to Saitama coming back down to earth after the former kicked the latter to the moon.

Y'all know the scene: he's just stands there staring in disbelief for a second before the camera does a close up on him as his eyes narrow and he gets this look that screams Oh you MOTHER-FU.......

I've got nothing to say about what Oda did or didn't plan in regards to Rebecca, though with Oda's difficulty doing anything with his females, I have to admit, I'm siding with Pope Saiga on this one.
