So which of these characters do you think we'll see first?

• Kaido.
• Rokugyu, the other new Admiral.
• Dr. Vegapunk.
• Seventh Warlord.
• Tenth Blackbeard Commander.
• Luffy's mother.

I'm expecting Kaido at Chapter 800.

I'm guessing either the Seventh Warlord or Dr. Vegapunk. We just met one of the new Admirals, Luffy's mom should have some connection to the Revolutionaries so I'm guessing we'll see her the same time they get addressed, Kaido is still too big of a threat to deal with right now, and the 10th Blackbeard commander is probably being saved for when they become relevant again.

Oda apparently doesn't think he'll be making Luffy's mother important. And even with that I don't see a reason to think she'd be connected to the Revolutionaries. I don't picture Dragon as the type of guy to fraternize with underlings.

Ivankov, on the other hand...

I want to know how Sabo apparently leapfrogged Ivankov in rank. Was he promoted when the latter got locked up?

That might make sense.

Plus Sabo does seem legitimately powerful, even before he got the Fruit.

A lot of his physical techniques have "dragon" in the name. I wouldn't be surprised if Dragon personally tutored him.

Honestly, I assumed it was an "adopted son" situation.

Ivankov's track record makes me wonder how powerful Dragon and Ivankov both are in the grand scheme of things.

Also, just to reiterate, I'm a fan of Inazuma.

Ivankov was equal to Kuma at Marineford, which is pretty far up there.

Dragon I guess to be just below the Emperors.

I took that as a given.

I'm not comfortably making any statements on Dragon's strength until we meet him.

Calling them even is being generous, I think.

As far as I remember Ivankov was on defense, he couldn't really do anything. I mean, I doubt he wanted to hurt him, but I also doubt he could.

Nope, he said he'd "Beat fear into Kuma" and hit him with the Galaxy Wink, his strongest technique seen thus far.

I'd imagine Kuma's about even with Doffy, meaning Gear 4 Luffy could possibly beat him now. Maybe. Depending on how much damage the Gamma Knife did. Mihawk, Magellan, and Sabo are slightly above that area.

But did the Galaxy Wink do anything?

Also, I miss Magellan. Man, Impel Down had some nice characters introduced.

ivan and kuma? ivan is stronger if kuma is not a robot yet.

I disagree, I think being turned into a robot in all probability weakened Kuma.

I doubt we're ever going to see Luffy's mom. I'm pretty positive that any concept of Monkey D. Mama was used for Dadan, considering Oda said long ago that his mom would probably be big and brutish.

I gotta wonder a little why shounens love either killing a mom or just not mentioning the mom at all. I guess having a feminine figure that would be rude to sexualize might damper the shounen mood.

When did Oda say that?

Also, despite being a lot longer until they were mentioned, it's interesting that Naruto's mom was more fundamental to him as a ninja and Fated Family member, while Ichigo's was more fundamental to his power set and drive to protect.

What if it was Dadan, straight-up, and this was just hidden so that Dadan wouldn't have the Navy beating down the door to capture her and hold her hostage to bait out Dragon?

It came from a Q&A the American Shonen Jump held a number of years ago, where one of the questions was about Luffy's mom and Oda answered that she's still alive, but he wasn't sure at the time if she was going to put in an appearance or not and that she would be a tough, strict person. This was the same place where he explicitly ruled out Tashigi being Kuina's long-lost twin or something similar.

I'm kind of hoping she's one of those people that we only have a rank for.

Tough and strict does fit some ideas I had, although mine would cross into flat-out cruel.

By the way, if anyone can remember, when you first read Water 7, did you take Usopp's side or Luffy's side? I first came aboard when that debate was in full swing, and let me tell you, all the debates we've had (Is Law a Gary Stu? Is Sanji amusing or uncomfortable? Is Rebecca a sexist stereotype?)? The Usopp meltdown made those look like a pleasant conversation about the weather. Totally serious.
