I really liked the vulture part in the beginning. The idea that it had a duel disk was funny and actually kind of plausible considering the insane setting.

Also because there's a dueling monkey in GX.

Kaiba was on fire this episode.

Almost literally.

I was waiting for Kaiba to point out that he did technically kill his evil stepfather, so... technically he was the one who avenged that guy's little brother.

The Mile High Club is when you have sex on a plane in the air. Kaiba happened to have the actual meaning of the term fly over his head considering everyone saw him bridal carry Allister while proudly yelling that out.

Pretty good episode. The more I watch, the more I begin to realize why I never picked up most of how the Orichalcos Arc is basically held together by plot holes.

Meh, while I kinda agree it was very melodramatic, the whole "Is just bad!" get annoying, specially the part of "magic does stuff" complain feel very...weird and out of place.

Also, yeah, im surprise LK didnt mention Kaibe beat is stepfather in the othet filler arc.

Not sure it being a stepfather would matter. What would've mattered is if he said he intentionally took down his stepfather to fix the war issues. Also, Kaiba is a mega dick in TAS, so it makes more sense for him to not really have done completely the right thing. It fits.

But yeah, the plot holes are really bad this season. Sure, it's complaining, but it's no less true. There's zero explanations for most of this. Just "magic". It's better explained in other seasons, due to many of them having the actual willpower to summon such creatures, or for that matter, the fact that the God cards are extremely powerful ancient magic, which is also why they're hard to control. They're literal deities. This is handled fairly well(sure, could be less "bullshit" too, but it makes some sense).

A lot of the characters just feel like they randomly meet up at times for no reason besides offscreen teleporting. It was worth acknowledging too, since it is a legit issue with the arc. Plus, they didn't explain how Alister got Kaiba to see his past either. It just... happened. Can the seal really produce that? It's not like they're ascendants of someone with magical powers, which somewhat explains stuff.

I find that complain weird consider all the random crap magic have show up:

Bakura put a bunch of children in a weird children card games and them the pharoh use magic HARDER to swich yami bakura with regular one avoing the issue bakura set up.

the dub dosent help thing with weird shit like shadow thing that definily dosent cut in half, and hell Yami marik(or melvin of you like) only go so far because he pull random weird crap in all is duels(magic invocation with Ra, Wheeler pass out for the pain,etc) or when Seto and Yugi see their past after both godcards are destroyed in the field, or how white eyes dragon just SOMEHOW advice kaiba to not play is god card against ishizu....

is the orichalcos stone with them that put the whole soul eating magic, since the stone is conected to leviathan they can do diferent tricks.

Those instances are all explained or have their own internal rules set-up in advance. Not to say that the anime in general didn't have plot holes when it adapted the manga's material, because it does, but since you haven't honed on those issues I can't be assed to discuss them.

The problems with the DOMA arc didn't have to exist, which is the main reason they're so noticeable.

How?.....everytime a bad guy just come with magic yo make thing worst, in yami he somehow reverse yami bakura swap even whe he barely know how to do magic and the shadow realm, Marik relies in setting weird penality games with weird rules(loosing your memories, sharing the pain) which literaly save is ass in more of one ocasion, compare to that, orichalcos never really do anything that weird aside for the card propers.

and the dub just make things works by adding dules like arcana and lumis and umbra who replace anything lethal with shadow realm, making thing more confusing.

That Dark Bakura duel indeed had a random example of "one-off magic doing whatever the plot wanted" going on with the Millennium Puzzle, so you're right to call it out for what it is. This is part of what I meant by it their being Adaptation Induced Plot Holes.

On the other hand all of Dark Marik's Dark Games are more consistent with what the magic does and how its' set up. Any Millennium Item user can turn a game into a Dark Game, and they can set the rules how they wish. But, they must also follow those rules. It's not random, not even Dark Marik can escape his own Dark Game should he lose them, which is what happened when he lost to Atem.

The Orichalcos magic is actual consistent with itself for most of DOMA. Millennium Items can't remove or harm the seal because the magic of the Oricahlcos is older, only an Orichalocs Stone can break the seal, etc. This episode stands out because the seal gained a random ability to show flashbacks, that is never used again. Exactly like the never seen again plot magic from the Dark Bakura duel.

Kinda, but putting weird rules is something only Marik does, neither does pegasus and os own, and in fact the issue with marik is alter the duels to the point it allow Yami marik to win almost 3 times, the same thing with Ra suddenly getting and ancient chant that allow Marik to win.

compare to that oricalchos showing memory of aliester past kinda look tame in comparation.

You cannot have watched the anime and believe Dark Marik is the only person on the show to make rules to his own Dark Games. Pegasus did it in his first appearance, as has Dark Bakura several times across the show. Dark Marik uses his rules to stack the deck in his favor because he's a sadist, it's the crux of his characterization.

The way he uses Ra to survive his duels doesn't have anything to do with the random one-off magic of the seal in the DOMA arc, so I don't care to go down that road with you.

It's not only a Marik thing. Don't forget Yami started in Season 0, both the Manga and Anime. He just stopped doing it later on, and the dub hung onto that to keep him more as a protagonist, which also means Protagonist-Centered Morality. Yami Bakura set up rules too. His first duel did that.

Heck, Pegasus did so during his duels, although it was more of a simplistic rule of "nobody can interfere within the sphere" for his last one, which is still a rule no less. Only his duel against Kaiba didn't specifically set up a shadow game. He did however still use his shadow powers(or it was solely the eye) to cheat, and even Kaiba partially countered it at least once, which was an amusing bit to show how powerful his connection to Blue-Eyes was(and which later become even more important to the story. But it's the second time his connection mattered, with the first being during the Gay Clown Fake Kaiba).

It's actually common among multiple characters. Yami Marik is just the most memorable and the only one who really does it just to hurt people for the sake of it. The others creating the punishment games were doing so for a reason, like revenge or justice. Hell, all of Yami Yugi's shadow games were intentionally due to justice. A dark sense, but still what his goal was. Marik's servants sometimes were involved in shadow games, but only Umbra and Lumis has no real goal at all. Arkana was doing for so love(not much unlike Pegasus).

Let's be realistic, only Yami Marik is a sadist among the show that has shadow powers. Panik is the other notable sadist who was nothing more than a severely deadly bully who will gladly burn those alive who win against his card game. Pan and Dora instead were tricksters, who basically were there to weed them out. They were dicks, yet came back as just simply people to duel during GX with no indication they were evil or anything. It's more likely that they do take some pleasure in beating people, but also aren't evil at heart, at least dub-wise.

ra is important because it come out of nowhere and was used so Marik can win because Mayb still have the harpies and there wasnt any reason to used ra, is random aplication of magic put out of nowhere.

And when it come to rules: Pegasus at best set the whole "you cant interrupt a shadow game" which seen to be estandar for it, with the 12 minutes limitation before(on the other hand, pegasus just randomly decide to steal grampa souls), fake kaiba is kinda weird since he just create a being our of nowhwere in the weirdest display of magic ever.

Also, there was ANY reason to milenium ring to return to bakura after he lost the duel? I mean by the Millnium rules if you lost the game you lost the right to bear the artefact, dosent it?.

more important, those happen AFTER the duel is done, Marik is the only one who put punishment mid battle: feeling the pain of the lifepoint, losing the memories of people which each card, , Marik is weirdert in that it impose this weird rules that affect the duel and it use to win(and in both cases it barely saved is ass), which it make me ask if Marik is that good of a duelist.

And more important....it feel a rather minor detail to complain about the season when is no the first thing the series have done(again, Ra having ancient egyptian chanting that only marik can use sound VERY convient) and is done for another "this season suck!" which even as joke is getting tiring.
