To be fair, Ursa's father-in-law was kind of awful.
What's so bad about Ursa, again?
Yes, I have at least read about the Search, and I hope to actually finish reading it later.
Oh God! Natural light!Ozai being a dick to Zuko is at least partly because Ursa started a rumor that he was someone else's child.
Which she did just to get Ozai's goat.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOh. I thought it was about something else. Oh well, still not convinced.
Oh God! Natural light! And after leaving her kids, she intentionally erased her memories of her own children so she could go live a new dream life with her childhood sweetheart.
Its a pretty big thing though. And pretty inexcusable. Its easy for her to take her parting shots because she doesn't have to live with it (what with erasing her memory too) but she left Zuko in that environment after she poisoned the well.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo that's why that story's so hated.
I don't get hating her for that. She admitted she was weak, and honestly thought she was never going to see them again.
She was willing to commit high treason and leave them forever no matter how hard it hurt to keep them safe. I think her feelings are understandable.
I liked that part because it showed she wasn't perfect. Mother's being perfect matyrs is kind of a thing in this series and it's good to see it subverted.
Edit: I would think Ikkem would get more hate for knowing who Zuko is and knowing that the danger is going and still planning on not telling him the truth until he came back. And even then, I still understand where he was coming from.

She also erased her own memory to live out a new life with a new husband and child. That's pretty callous for a mother.

Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I think the main reason for why people hate "The Search" is because of it teasing a reveal of Zuko not actually being Ozai's son, and not revealing that he really is until the last part. It was just a bad storytelling device, clearly there for shock appeal. Beyond that, the story's not that bad, and even Ursa's behaviour, while not admirable, comes off as fairly realistic.

And lets face it, she get a new life while Zuko and Azula get the worst of it, she is not a bad person, but she was a coward
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"The way I see it, as far as her giving up her memories goes, there wasn't really any else she could do. As far as she could tell, she would never see them again.
If she's acknowledged her mistakes, and Zuko forgave her for them, then I don't really have a problem.
Oh God! Natural light!I don't care about Ursa's actions because I never cared if she was alive in the first place. She could have been just as evil as Ozai was and I still wouldn't care. No investment.
The hints about Zuko not being Ozai's son caused such an uproar because part of Zuko's growth was disproving the notion of his genes being responsible for his prior evil.

Well, no point in buying 'The Search' now.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Oh dear, did we spoil it for you? I'm sorry if we did.
Oh God! Natural light!I think a lot of the hate comes from the first impression that people got of Ursa being a mother who would do anything for her children. And then finding out that she wasn't as good a person as everyone thought she was.
Kind of like Dumbledore to be honest.

Grown-ups fuck up a lot. That should come as no surprise by now. That doesn't necessarily make them bad people, just people who fucked up.

Oh God! Natural light! In all honesty, that's one reason I don't think this discussion should be hear to begin with. Anything regarding the comics & Aang's adventures - unless directly related to Korra itself - seems to be more fit for the Avatar thread than Korra.
Improving as an author, one video at a time.@Tobias re: Airbending v. Bloodbending
Hama v. Aang, Yakone v. Aang, Tarrlok v. Tenzin. Whenever a bloodbender forgoes the whole tricksy subtle manipulation bit, you need Avatar mojo or superior Bloodbending to stand a chance. Even Mako and Korra only got shots off because Amon was distracted by the Lieutenant and Mako respectively.
"I hasten to interject that I have potentially time-sensitive data that merits immediate consideration." - VaarsuviusI don't know if Hama is a good example. No one really knew what they were dealing with at the time.
Oh God! Natural light!Amon isn't any of those people. By the same logic, Tenzin should be able to fly because Zaheer achieved weightlessness. Bending is a martial art, not a hive-mind.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Amon is explicitly stronger than all of those people, so...doesn't really matter that he's not them...
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! This is not Dragon Ball Z.
Toph is "clearly stronger" than Bolin but can't lavabend.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I maintain that Amon does not have any inherent weakness to airbending. Short of staying out of bloodbending reach (and we don't know how far that is) and pelting him with air blasts, Zaheer or Tenzin would have no particular advantage over him.
