Katara was fighting for her life (as demonstrated by razor sharp ice discs) because she knew she couldn't really hurt Pakku. Pakku was holding back (as demonstrated by razor sharp icicles that restrict instead of horribly murder) because he knew he could really hurt Katara, and he wanted to humiliate her. So while it looked kind of even, Pakku was pretty much toying with her the entire time.

Okay, that ranking was a lot better and more civil than I expected. I kinda jumped the gun there.
And yeah, Katara's meteoric rise to mastery could have been better spread (her jump in skill when fighting Pakku was kinda out of nowhere, even if he did thoroughly school her), but it was a minor price to pay for her needed competence.
What did you think it was going to be like?
Oh God! Natural light!Flamier? I'm not very familiar with the Nostalgia Critic.

God damn it geo-blocking.

Haha....I was waiting for a review like this! It was both painful and fun to watch at the same time. I'm definitely looking forward to next week. However, there are only three episodes I disagree with:
1) The Serpent's Pass- Doug mentions somewhere in the review that he didn't care for "The Cave of Two Lovers" because it wasn't a great representation of Katara and Aang's relationship....I agree. But "The Serpent's Pass" is the exact opposite; it literally shows why Aang and Katara need each other. They talk about their issues, they are both very intuitive, and they both call each other out when they need too. This is actually the episode that cements them as one of my favorite tv couples. I would have easily replaced this with "The Runaway".
2) Sokka's Master- Okay, Sokka may not be my favorite character in Avatar, but "Sokka's Master" is one of my favorite episodes, ever. Not just because it's well written, but because of how I much I actually love Sokka in this episode. I don't think I have ever seen Sokka so happy and goofy at any other point in the series. The episode brilliantly plays up on Sokka's best qualities including his creativity, his humility, and his sense of humor. This is Sokka at his best and this is the Sokka I wish I could have seen more of as opposed to the pessimistic, cynical, and sarcastic Sokka.
3) The Boiling Rock part 1- The BR episodes are so good that they could be considered cinematic. Compare LOK's "In Harm's Way"(still one of my favorite Lok episodes) and "The Boiling Rock" episodes and you will see a clear difference. Also, I really like Sokka in this episode as well. He is given so much depth and development in this episode alone that it can't be skipped over. Lastly, in my opinion, Sokka and Zuko have arguably the most natural and dynamic friendship in the Gaang; rivaling even Aang and Katara's or Aang and Zuko's. It's actually strange how well these two play off each other. Seriously, I could watch a dozen episodes just focused on these two going on adventures together.
Edit: Just saw the clip....wow poor Korra.... and awwww Bolin "Spoiler alert, Pabu and I already miss you." And Asami back off, SHE'S MINE!!

I have an international link:
Well great, I was worried it wouldn't start on a depressing note.

I'm guessing we get a pep-talk from Katara, and then probably the Important Haircut after Korra decides to make a new start.

Korra looks a bit better, probably just because of the lack of shadows under her eyes.
Southern Water Tribe is a bit wordy.
Like, it describes the people but what if you want to refer to the land? Doesn't the land have a name?

Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Surely not!
How then would you distinguish between the south pole as a location and the greater land mass that it is contained within?

He did pretty well whenever there was serious fighting going on, but I get what you mean.
