Overrated/Underrated Manga and anime

Well, it's because I don't really focus on stuff I don't like. Don't see the point really.

Overrated: Kimi no Iru Machi.

How is it still going won't stop baffling me.

Complaining about something is fun unless it was the complaining which made the something popular in the first place.

Or made it even more popular.

For now, I think the only way to make a critique or complaint not contribute to whatever's being criticized more popular is if the critique itself is entertaining and not going to make the reader think - I better check out if the something's really as bad as the critic says it is.

I'm going with the definition of Overrated = something decent that's hyped so much that people will have unrealistic expectations when they finally watch it, and underrated = something decent, yet no one is giving it a chance for some reason.

With that aside, my overrated series for the season is Space Dandy. No question, it's a fun and colorful SF romp done by guys who know and love what they're doing, but does it deserve the "WILL SAVE ANIME" hype mainstream media (I snickered at the NYT and the Atlantic's review of it) give it? Not really. Profound this ain't.

And yes, I watch Space Dandy. The dub is hilarious.

Underrated for the season? Hozuki no Reitatsu. Seriously, it's about being a competent yet overworked middle-management supervisor in HELL, and yet it still comes off as quirky and interesting... And yet no one talks about it.
