I don't know that this is ever gonna happen, but stranger things have, so here goes : They announce new EL eps, with the intent of doing the whole manga plot as much as possible. They send out feelers to the fan community. In your opinion, should the eps :

1 - Be a complete reboot, start from square one, and have it stay much closer to the manga chapters its based on (About Chapter 60 is the break)

2 - Run with the changes the first series made and build on them, like Kouta recovering his memories earlier (would his promise of forgiveness hold?) and the loss of Kurarama, and so forth?

I've seen a bit of a split in the base on this, for those that know both versions. I almost feel like the manga version's been told, and that a variant story would almost be better, at least in the fine details. Plus, little stories could be explored, say like Nyuu-ified, dehorned Lucy taking a liking to Mayu, finding out about her parents, and deciding to do something behind the backs of Kouta and Yuka. Maybe not that, but I sometimes feel the best route between page-to-screen involves some odd detours. Anyone else? Which of the two routes listed (or one not listed) would you favor?

I would've like Lucy to:

1: When Kouta demands in the lighthouse why she killed his family, she goes to say an epic The reason Humans suck speech starting with her famous "I was born to wipe out mankind...".

2: Furiously lash out at Kouta when he dismisses her DNA voice as a mere excuse, screaming he understands nothing and crying because she was treated like a monster when humans are the true monsters.

3: She rejects Kouta's offer of going back with them,(arguing she doesn't want to live more lies, and that now death is her only escape to madness) making Kouta break down and beg her in tears not to take Nyuu away like she took Kanae and his father. Moving Lucy to kiss him, declare her undying love for him and then accepting.

4: Lucy's DNA Voice taking control for more time when Kurama tries to kill her. Then when Kouta walks in, she cruelly mocks his stupidity, saying she'd never affiliate to humans, then she uses her vectors as mental probes to subject both Kouta and Kurama to a brutal Mind Rape consisting in her showing them that, in the end, her hatred for humanity was partially humans's fault. Then Nana kicks in and things go from there...

Note: This are all separate scenarios that may or may not be played together.

I don't really think Elfen Lied should have any continuation. 13/14 episodes was perfect for it, and I see the anime at least as being more of an interesting study in addition to entertainment than pure story.

I write pretty good fanfiction, sometimes.

I think Elfen Lied would have been a much better anime had they followed the manga more faithfully. And maybe axed most of the fanservice. That really brought it down a notch. The manga is flawed, IMO, but it develops the characters more...logically, I guess? Mayu's personality isn't just dropped after her past is revealed, for example. The "are humans bastards?" debate is executed more solidly—though still anviliciously at times—and there are scenes that feel genuinely touching, rather than hollow and forced.

Because of that, I'd prefer a total reboot  *

over a second season, maybe with the new version ironing out some plot weirdness. If this were done by a studio other than ARMS,  * that would be preferable.
