Yeah, Persona 2's gameplay is kind of... outdated, to say the least. But the story and characters (which I consider the best in the entire series,) keep you going. If they weren't as amazing as they are, I'd seriously want P2 to go die in a fire.
But on a somewhat related note, I'm really glad you're playing it, just so I know other people are still checking out and playing these amazing games. (IS&EP.) The more recent Persona games are still good, and their gameplay blasts the earlier games out of the water, but I think P1&P2 just speak to me more; their atmosphere, story and characters still hold up incredibly well, and I think P5 could stand to borrow from them in those respects.
I have mixed feelings about Persona 2's emphasis on Fusion Skills- On one hand, it makes things kind slow and dull and repetitive, but on the other, it's CONCEPTUALLY pretty cool.
I sure said that!Indeed; if they tweaked it, then it'd be something they could bring back nowadays. Just imagine some of those P2 fusion attacks in full 3D. It's probably not going to happen, but it's be neat to see it make a comeback in P5.
Then you'll be happy to know I'm fascinated with it, and there's stuff I think is great and the stinkers.
I've pretty much specced out for Vitality and Dexterity because of aforementioned Fusion Spells.
You know, I just realised that Medea is like only Persona in the series who actually serves some sort of role in the story. Weird thing, that.
Unless P1 and 2 had something where Personas actually mattered in the story.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!Of course Personas mattered in 1 and 2.
Maya dies because her persona is weak to phys, and no cure spell could heal the wound.
Edit: Also the personas spoke when confronting the shadow selves and their Reverse Personas.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Nanjo's ultimate Persona is his dead butler from the beginning of the first game, too. And it's poSsible to get the big bad himself as one even if he sucks.

I sure said that!Well certain Persona could auto negotiate with demons relevant to their mythologies, and they each have their little first time summoning monologue, so it's not entirely unprecedented.
Still kinda random I'll admit though. Kermit Hades especially.
So I started playing The Answer again. Got through the second... I don't even know what to call it, so let's just call them "blocks", same as Tartarus. Saw the scene with the flashback to Ken at the police station after his mother's death. He was profoundly unaffected by it, but in a good way. I'm glad they didn't walk back the Character Development that took place during the game just for extra angst in The Answer. (Though it looks like Akihiko and Yukari are going to be providing plenty of angst without having to toss out their previous development.)
For some reason I'm enjoying the dungeon crawling in The Answer more than I enjoyed Tartarus in The Journey. I think it's a combination of a) no social links or anything competing for your attention, b) no getting tired and forcing you to leave before you would have otherwise, and c) no calendar-based bosses artificially limiting your progress. All of that, combined with the fact that finishing a block means you get a plot-relevant scene, makes the dungeon crawling smoother and more rewarding instead of just feeling like filler between the meat of the game like it does in The Journey.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.x3 It was to beat into peoples heads that the shadow selves of IS were indeed shadows, to the point even the personas react to them. Because there are people who think they were just made up by Nyarly and not real.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Hmm. I guess that does really depend on if you like the grinding by itself. As for me, well, my bf's reaction to me challenging the first boss over and over and over again is, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!?
To which I say, PLOT.
Is there a use to doing the room where you can re-fight bosses? Like, do you get experience?

I don't know if you get experience or not, but you definitely get rewards. You get Armageddon gems, Infinity gems, homunculuses etc. There are also some good skill cards.
Or wait, are you talking about the Answer? I was thinking of Mirror Quest or whatever Margaret's little minizone is called.

Yeah, Mirror Quest.
Vision Quest, actually.
And yeah, the rewards are mostly gems and so on- Among other things, it's probably the only reasonable way to gather enough rubies to purchase a sufficient number of Infinity uses to beat Elizabeth/Theodore.
I sure said that!I'm about to go face Margaret in Persona Q. I hope she's not too tough...
Ah.
I do wonder how, now that I have a lot of powerful Personas, we would do against bosses that are way back at the beginning of the game.
Then on top of that, after you complete each boss and all the stat doors you can challenge Margaret to a fight. She's probably the hardest boss in the game. I found her significantly tougher than Elizabeth, who is mostly just a gimmick boss with a bunch of annoying rules to follow.
^ Their difficulty is scaled up considerably.

What do the Stat Doors do, just increase the stats of the personas you use to complete them?
edited 9th Mar '15 4:32:43 PM by Konkfan7
The boss inside is themed around that stat, IIRC.
They provide fixed challenges in the form of a few Puzzle Boss fights that emphasize the named stat somehow, be it directly or indirectly.
I sure said that! How do my other party members personas get reborn?
Made it past the second Guardian. I hope I'll be able to finish the Sun social link before the game ends. I got to Rank 6 the first Sunday of the month and there were 28 days left...
