But if this is the first Metal Gear, then... well, MGSV spoilers, but why does Big Boss have the huge chunk of metal coming out of his forehead? Because Venom Snake wasn't actually Big Boss.

I think the theory is that the Big Boss you face in Metal Gear is Venom Snake, while the Big Boss you face in Metal Gear 2 is the real deal.

It's not a theory, MGSV tells you exactly that in its ending.

I mean, the weird/er thing is that I'm pretty sure the Big Boss back at FOXHOUND HQ was the real one. You'd think Snake would notice the Big Boss here in Outer Heaven has the shrapnel horn but the one that's been training him doesn't.

Why no consideration for him having it removed at any intervening time between games?

MGSV had a terrible story, so I can kind of buy that nobody noticed there were two Big Bosses running around and that one has a big metal horn.

Basically, the whole thing is just there to fill the plot hole of how Big Boss could have totally died in Outer Heaven and then still been the villain in Zanzibar Land.

Some people are just too good at their jobs.

I mean, Liquid ended up being rather stubborn about not dying. Not that much of a stretch for his "father" (FAAAAAAAAAATHEEEEEEEEERRRR) to have simply survived the first Metal Gear game simply by being just that tough.

Which is I hate the ending of the game: it cheapens Big Boss quite a lot if some anonymous nobody is just as good as he is and said nobody actually died in MG 1. I still question the logistics of nobody noticing there were two of him while he's building warrior nations.

I mean, the funny thing to me is that the real big boss got taken out by a can of hair spray, and the fake got killed by five to eight rockets to the face.

And yet IIRC the real Big Boss still shows up at the end of MGS4 to give some kind parting words to Solid before dying then and there in front of him.

I mean, he needed to get a whole shitload of nanomachines and organ transplants for that.

Yeah, that was the real Big Boss from Metal Gear 2, who narrowly survived his deadly encounter with hair spray and was patched up from his coma.

I mean, not for lack of trying on Snake's part, but I think from this we can confirm that five to eight rockets are a more effective killing implement than hair spray.

Like, the Patriots and also Ocelot have an actual spirit medium on call. A dead one. Who apparently spends most of MGS 4 haunting a boat.

The nanomachines were the thing that made the difference between death and coma.

Typically the reasons colds are caused by low temperatures is because it's an oppourtunisitic infection and the human immune system tends to be occupied when the core temperature drops.

Quite. Anything that weakens the immune system can make you susceptible to the cold. Being physically cold is just one of those things.

Another one that comes immediately to mind is sleep deprivation.
