I thought that it could be that the Centurians got there by Sleeper Ships, then set up the other side of a wormhole like pathway to Earth when they got there. It would allow us to explain the rigid caste system by discipline method.
Kitkat Kitkat / He's our man / If any one screws up / He sure can -Imca- How big are the robots?
- What kind of weaponry do they have?
Are you planning to have the players be of the Ace Pilot kind, or are you going more towards a low-key mook player setting?
- Alpha Centauri is only 4.4 light years away. The trip was made 7 centuries prior to the RP proper, when they were at Lightspeed travel. they now have FTL
- The Robots are Gundam-sized. A.k.a. 15 to 20 meters tall.
- Weaponry is beam-based, primarily long range
- Players will be aces for either faction.

TVTropes Nuzlocke Thread. - Arceus Help Us All.It seems like ships might be more practical for space combat...
If players can play either faction, how will they receive their orders? Can't publicly broadcast them, especially for sensitive missions.
@Rume: Ship would be more pratcical, yes. But practicality is a secondary concern here.
Ships would probably be used as suit carriers, carrying the suits from one system to another. They can also provide artillery.
@Fluid: We can have someone agree to be dispatcher for the players, PMing them their orders.
Or, we can always call 'no meta-gaming'.
Your call.

TVTropes Nuzlocke Thread. - Arceus Help Us All.We could have a consistent GM. Or would that not work for this kind of setting?
Kitkat Kitkat / He's our man / If any one screws up / He sure can -ImcaLockon should probably GM. (S)he is the creator after all.
@Katsuun: It would, actually, given it's military nature. The GM can play top brass, and give orders for mission through PMs, this allows everyone to be on the same page.
I'm a he, and yeah, I think it would be best if I were GM. Also, I promise not to meta game.

TVTropes Nuzlocke Thread. - Arceus Help Us All.How will combat be handled? This is particularly crucial in order to prevent godmoding.
Yes, I would nominate lockon since he's the one who came up with it. Okay, that works.

Kitkat Kitkat / He's our man / If any one screws up / He sure can -ImcaWait, I think we would need two GM's, one for each side.
Combat: We could do something like RTD, with the 'generals' making the rolls.

I'm going to have a list of suits for players to pick from, this way they can have one that suits their play style, but it prevents god modding.
@Rume: Alright then I'll be the Centaurian GM. Who will be the federation GM.
Also, two GMs means there needs to be an agreement on the nature of the conflict between their factions.

TVTropes Nuzlocke Thread. - Arceus Help Us All.I would like to volunteer.
Kitkat Kitkat / He's our man / If any one screws up / He sure can -ImcaI'll be the Fed GM, if no one else will. Never mind, I'll let Katsuun.
So, wait, this won't be like the Magic vs. Technology RP, where individual fights are rolled, right? I'm thinking, have rolls for how well we shoot at them etc, then we can RP the hit/miss/whatever.
Roll to Dodge is just too tempermental in my opinion. You could be playing as an ace pilot but have no luck whatsoever.

@Katsuun: Sure. You've watched at least one real robot series, I'm hoping.
@hydrall: We could have the GMs roll dice to decide who wins the conflict for that battle. Then we let the players figure out how the battle plays out. but that's just one idea, any other suggestions?

TVTropes Nuzlocke Thread. - Arceus Help Us All.So, nature of the conflict. Goals of each side would be a good start.
@lockon: Yes, but I'm assuming there will be room to deviate?

Kitkat Kitkat / He's our man / If any one screws up / He sure can -ImcaRIGHTO. So, are the robots Gundam like, or will they not be just humanoid?
Also, I have some protojustifications for humanoid mechs, but they need time to be completed.
Katsuun:
From what I'm reading here, we're going to have supers as well, so you don't have to completely stick to Real Robot conventions.
@Katsuun: Yes there will be room for deviation, I just wanted to be sure you knew the conventions.
@Hydrall: They are gundam-like.
@Fluid: No more super than your standard Gundam. So, we're gonna be sticking to formula for 60% of it at least.
Well, it's pretty much a standard territory war. The factions have discovered a sector whose systems have a high level of Phlebotinum, and both sides want control over them.
edited 17th Jul '10 4:20:34 PM by lockonlockon
TVTropes Nuzlocke Thread. - Arceus Help Us All.That sector will have to be near either Earth or Alpha Centauri, unless the FTL method was established to reach multiple areas.
Kitkat Kitkat / He's our man / If any one screws up / He sure can -ImcaThe same Phlebotinum that makes giant robots work, perhaps?
Hmm... How about a name for it? Something simple and easy to say, so we can have "The ____ is overloading!"
Also, only humanoids? Nyoro~n...
edit: HELLO FROM MANY MANY MANY DAYS IN THE FUTURE, PAST! We've changed a lot since now! The RP's actually going and all.
