Exactly What It Says on the Tin, folks—a sign-up thread for the popular roleplay/forum game/fanfic that is The Imperium of Man comes to Gensokyo. New players apply here, but do not forget to view the Discussion thread, the article and the character sheet.

Bear in mind that the original game has ended; we are still accepting characters, but now it is for the game's sequel, The Aquila and the Rising Sun.

If you wish to join, either as a denizen of the 40K or Tou Hou universes, then we ask only that you fill out a post with the following:

  • Name: self-explanatory.
  • Gender: Also self-explanatory.
  • Description: the character's physical appearance.
  • Species: What race the character is. There are quite a few to choose from for both universes.
  • Affiliation: which group your character owes his or her allegiance to. This applies more to 40K players than it does to Tou Hou characters, unless you decide to play one that has sided with one of the other groups. Presently, the only 40k faction not present are the Dark Eldar.
  • Equipment: What sort of weapons/armour the character has. A quick hop over to the Lexicanum to peruse the equipment available to each faction couldn't hurt.
  • Powers: What sort of danmaku/manipulation powers you'll have as a denizen of Gensokyo, or what sort of psychic powers you'll have as a denizen of the Warhammer galaxy.
  • Background: a short history of your character. This is mainly for those wishing to play an original character from either universe.
  • Timezone: This one does not apply to your character, but rather to you as the player. It will be easier to coordinate this game if we know in advance when you'll be signing in and signing off; this way, horrible things won't happen to your character if you happen to be asleep.

As the other long-time players have decided to contribute, I shall now submit my own.

  • Name: Sval
  • Gender: Male
  • Description: grey quills, jagged beak, brown epidermis; clad in a mixture of traditional shaper leathers and Fire Warrior armour, most notably the helmet.
  • Species: Kroot
  • Affiliation: Tau Empire
  • Equipment: the scavenged pieces of a crisis battlesuit, kroot rifle with sharp bayonet.
  • Powers: weak, latent powers that were only used when he was possessed by the Lord of Change, Tyranthraxus.
  • Background: Originally a simple shaper only concerned with fighting and killing Orks to make his Kindred stronger, Sval came to Gensokyo under the supervision of Shas'El Kai'Ro; while the two men had many differences, he eventually came to respect the Shas'El before the latter's untimely death. As a result of witnessing this, Sval has become somewhat mentally unhinged, believing that he can allow Kai'Ro to live on by impersonating him; unfortunately, this has lead his superiors to believe that he killed Kai'Ro and stole his identity, and he is about to be tried and executed for this supposed crime.

I suppose I'll put mine here as well, for the convenience of anyone who might be interested.

  • Name: Arcturus
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: Tall, narrow build. Short dark hair, sleek face. Brown eyes.
  • Species: Human
  • Affiliation: Imperium of Man, Inquisition
  • Equipment: Well crafted Carapace armour, standard issue bolt pistol and a master-crafted power sword.
  • Powers: Imperial psyker powers, well above average. Mostly destructive, but has a few other uses.
  • Background: Sent to oversee the cleansing of the planet, Arcturus pretty much has the final say when it comes to directing Imperial forces. Also here to root out possible heresy, and somewhat recently, oversee the alliance efforts with the locals. Has a long-standing, ill-defined grudge with Bickerstaff.
  • Timezone: GMT+1.

Okay, boyz, 'ere we go...

Act I: "The Tale Begins" (pages 1-20)

An Imperial warfleet arrives in the Gensokyo system, drawn there by the vast amounts of Warp energy emanating from the planet. Companies of Imperial Guardsmen and Space Marines of the Steel Judicators chapter descend from on high to battle the "heretical" inhabitants of Gensokyo, many of whom were played by godmodders at this time. The situation quickly dissolves into a free-for-all as the forces of Chaos and the Orks join the fray, and by page 10 the players have gotten their act together, finally realizing that this battle is not onesided in either group's favor.

As a result of the first ten pages, the Orks have captured and Orkkified a Baneblade and taken control of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, the Imperials are battling the Khornate traitor marines for control of the Forest of Magic, and the inhabitants of Gensokyo, led by Kaguya, begin forming an alliance to repel the invaders.

As they know that the Imperial forces are heading towards the Forest of Magic in the direction of the Human Village, the Brotherhood of Darkness chapter of Chaos Space Marines decides to cut through the Snow-Covered Forest and intercept them at the human settlement. This leads directly into the first real clash between Gensokyoan and 40k-era characters, as Letty Whiterock and Cirno do battle with Maximus Gargoth, Daemon Prince of the Brotherhood of Darkness; the combatants are more or less evenly matched, with their danmaku being equal to the Daemon's Warp powers and strength.

Alas, their battle ends when the Necrons intervene, slaughtering Gargoth's ground forces and drawing his attention while the others flee. Fortunately, Moukou, who had been heading to the human village herself, manages to save the Ice Fairy from her Wraith pursuers, and Cirno reaches the safety of the Myourou Shrine while her saviour comes under attack by the Necrons and their Lord. Rin and Utsuho arrive on the surface to provide much-needed assistance.

a generic rabbit attacks and is killed by a passing Imperial patrol; Eirin Yagokoro comes across her body and attacks the patrol in revenge, her immortality and regeneration allowing her to survive the Guardsmen's onslaught.

Above, a Tyranid Hive Fleet enters the system, forcing the Imperial and Chaos fleets into a temporary truce in order to deal with this new menace; despite giving as good as they get, the Brotherhood of Darkness loses all her ships, and the flagship Litany of Slaughter makes a short range warp jump in order to ram the Hive Ship before detonating its reactor, destroying it.

In addition to all this, a second chapter of Space Marines—the Knights of Vengeance—joins the fray; the Commissar gets into a brief fight with Sakuya; the various youkai begin succumbing to the alure of the Ruinous Powers; the Lunarian Resistance does battle with the Tyranids, successfully capturing a Synapse Creature for an unknown purpose before being attacked by the corrupted youkai; the Baneblade goes sailing over a cliff, splattering a large chunk of the Tyranid swarm before being attacked by a Carnifex, and the Tyranid assault begins in earnest, leading to a number of minor skirmishes between them and both groups.

Act II: "There Is Only War" (Pages 21-40)

The fighting continues without pause, and things are somewhat confusing as everyone is pretty much fighting everyone else, especially now that several youkai have fallen to chaos taint. Eirin starts studying a tyranid Warrior, unwittingly also exposing Reisen to the terrible psychic force of the Hive Mind. Almost all of the fighting seems to take place in the Bamboo Forest at this point. A Tyranid bio-titan also comes forth, wreaking much havoc.

An Inquisitor named Arcturus arrives on the battlefield as well, and joins the fray. Not long after, the Eintei-crew lose the Bamboo Forest, and have an Eversor Assassin sent after them by the Inquisitor. Remilia Scarlet, however, refuses to quit the field, and is quickly locked in combat with both Imperial forces and Gargoth the Undying, who also tries to persuade her to join Chaos. Remilia refuses. Mokou fights a bunch of necrons.

Eirin holds back the Eversor so Kaguya and Reisen can escape, but is literally torn apart for all her efforts. Good thing she can regenerate, though. After an impossibly long fight, Remilia drops off the radar. The Chapter Master of the Steel Judicators save Eirin from being consumed by a Lictor in the Eversor's wake, and thus initiates the first gestures towards an alliance. The Inquisitor is quickly alerted, and the assassin is called off. The necrons pull back to the Human Village. Gargoth attacks Eintei along with a bunch of Tyranids, but is kept out by the Imperial defenders. Wriggle Nightbug was also captured by the Imperials, briefly questioned, and has yet to be heard from again.

The negotiations progress well, the Imperials and some of the Gensokyo-inhabitants coming to an understanding after some negotiating back and forth.

Finally, a battleship, the Emperor's Benediction, arrives offering medical support and evacuation to the Imperial forces and various refugees. But things are not as they seem...

Act III(40-60): Treachery

In order to tend to her wounds, Apothecary Drammlech takes Eirin up via thunderhawk to the orbiting Emperor's Benediction, answering her questions with growing unease. Meanwhile, Chapter Master Zolomon and Inquisitor Arcturus conclude their planning with Hijiri, warning her of the Imperium's severity when dealing with other worlds while ensuring the safety of the human refugees. Or so they think.

In reality, the Wings Of Fate chapter is a sect of the Thousand Sons, and Eirin is their latest test subject, the Pharmacist being none the wiser as she is sedated. The siege of the Moon continues, the Tyranids attempting to subvert the defenses via burrowing, but are driven back by the Lunar Princess. Zolomon grows suspicious of the endeavour, sparking Arcturus' investigation of the "hospital ship", the Chapter Master defending Eientei against the corrupted Tyranids in the meantime.

The investigative team(Stormtroopers, Steel Judicators 1st Company, Angry Marines) arrives, far too late to stop the ceremony for transferring Eirin's soul into Rubric Marine armour. A fight breaks out after a brief ruse put on by the ship's captain, Laufeysson, and the Thousand Sons reveal their true colours. Down planetside, the baneblade Orks unwisely engage some of the locals, barely escaping with their lives. Wriggle awakens inside her crate. The Tyranids also start their purge of the corrupted swarm, bringing in their strongest creatures on both fronts.

Eirin awakens to find that she has two bodies now, her flesh body holding her brain but none of her personality. As the strike team fights past Rubrics and daemons, as well as WOF Master Domdaniel Thanas, Drammlech attempts to command Eirin's armour body to kill the invaders. This fails rather dramatically, but that wasn't the nefarious Thanas' trump card. No, the trump card is the Wings Of Fate fleet, headed by the Eye of Horus, that now surges to assist their brethren, blasting everything in their path.

Meanwhile, the Ordo Hereticus expedition arrives in the vibrant Netherworld, seeking to warn the ghost princess of the potential horrors to come. At the same time, wreckage from the Brotherhood of Darkness begins to descend. Bizarrely, the baneblade boyz teleport into the hanger of a Chaos ship, wreaking havoc. The fight within the Benediction ends in the deaths of Drammlech and Thanas, but not without summoning a Lord of Change, Tyranthraxus. He attempts to gain headway with the Pharmacist, but fails, the ship beginning to fall apart. The Strike team evacuates via drop-pods, quite worse for wear, and the Wo F fleet disengages.

Elsewhere, Hong Meiling succumbs to Nurgle's offer, while the Khornates ride a corrupted Harridan up to the Netherworld Gate.

The newly painted Eirin decides to search for her Princess, taking Commissar Fuklaw with her, only to be attacked by 'nids and daemons, the Lord of Change taunting and tempting her, also hanging threats of corrupted Genestealers over her head. The C'tan Deceiver begins his spiel as well, his Necron henchmen attacking Eirin's convoy.

Of all people, the Blood Raven Captain Indrick Boreale arrives, to the chagrin of all other Imperials; even more absurdly, Ursurkar Creed is there, encased in a dreadnought shell and up to his typical antics. Arcturus' convoy to Eientei is attacked by Khornids while all this is going on. The Deceiver tricks the Space Marines into killing some of their own with an illusion, his attempted tempting of Eirin failing just as equally as Tyranthraxus, the Pharmacist now driven to save her princess from the genestealers. A certain powerful Oni arrives to assist her in this rescue.

Meanwhile, the Khornates have broken through into the Netherworld...

And 'dis be only da first sik—six?—sikksty pages, nob! Plus, we still ain't finished wit' da rest o' da recap!

^^ I can tell you right off the bat, you won't be playing as Khorne the diety. A Khornate warrior or daemon or a group of such will be fine, but as in any RP, godmoding is not what we're looking for.

No... I didn't mean actually AS Khorne, just would probably (might) bring him up at some time or other seeing as the other Chaos god's have made appearances in the thread. A group of daemons was more or less exactly what my idea was. Sorry for the mis-representation.

Name: U'zhul the Skulltaker.

Gender: Male.

Species: Khorne Bloodletter.

Affiliation: Khorne.

Equipment: Large two-handed razor sharp sword, weilded in one hand. Massive spiked sheild, made from the hardened bones of fallen champions.

Powers: I don't think bloodletters, even this one, have any powers. Super-strength?

Backstory: He's not original.

Timezone: GMT.

As for how to fit him in, maybe Khorne has decided to send his prized champion to murder the ones who defeated his previous task-force?
