Rana?
Is that another new Vocaloid?
It is.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."I think you'd like Rana, Ichi. Especially as soon as people start making her sing creepy songs...
SHAMWOW IS NOT OXYCLEAN. A DOG IS NOT A BROTHERI'll have to give her a listen after school then.
Oh my gosh this PV...
Though I've gotta say that I honestly prefer v flower's cover of the song.
I gave Rana a shot too. She sounds alright, but quite a bit like Miku, I've noticed.

ALL these new Vocaloids sound like Miku to me.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."That sounds like madness to me, I thought Rana was quite unusual in the lineup because we hadn't had a young cute-focused Vocaloid in a while. Let's take a look at the most recent releases:
Kokone (Midrange, vocal texture: a little similar to Gumi or Galaco, figures since it's the same company)
Anon and Kanon (Dynamic duo, strong electronic texture, one soft one sharp, midrange)
vFlower (Extreme power vocal, strong electronic texture, lisp, not particularly comparable)
Tohuko Zunko (Very soft and gentle, also Voiceroid)
IA Rocks (Powerful)
Galaco NEO (Nasal, suited to ballads, midrange)
Rana (Cutsey, electronic, good with beginners. One of the first Vocaloids of Vocaloid3 to fill the same criteria as Miku)
Gachapoid V3 (Needs no introduction)
Chika (Chika received no comparisons with Miku, but was accused of sounding very similar to Gumi and Kokone)
All in all, not many Miku-esque vocals. o: When looking at the reactions of people following Vocaloid quite closely, Rana was often considered a breath of fresh air after the onslaught of midrange Vocaloids (which is the safest route for companies to go, thus very popular).
Of course, all comparisons have an element of subjectivity in them, you may not agree with my summaries of the recent Vocaloids we've seen. But I believe that, although Miku had a big influence on Vocaloid, her voicetype is still relatively niche. She can reach super high notes with most Vocaloids can't, and is often recommended for beginners, most Vocaloids lying in the middle of the 'ease of use' spectrum. She is also voice acted, a gimmick mostly used by Crypton, though it's hard to get confirmation from other companies as to whether they did the same thing. The majority of Vocaloids take the realism route.

“Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind.” TPActually Kokone sounds like Gumi because, from what I heard, she was supposed to be an append for Gumi but they decided to release as an independent voicebank.
My work is here. Current main fic: Tengen Toppa Gurren SolverniaI think we have confirmation it wasn't the same voice provider, but it makes sense they would use the same recording techniques.
“Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind.” TPI admit that was a bit of an exaggeration, but most of the new Vocaloids I remember hearing sounded a lo like Miku to me.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."When Miku sings everything, the mind just tunes to her voice.
Just takes a lot of listening to differentiate though.
I think Rana is interesting because she has similarities to Miku but her voice has a certain amount of power that Miku doesn't have.
Here's Rana singing World is Mine. You can see that while her voice is cutesy, there's a different voice quality than in Miku's version.
SHAMWOW IS NOT OXYCLEAN. A DOG IS NOT A BROTHERThere is indeed. Hell, that might just be the best cover of that song I've ever heard.
I'm kinda "eh" about that song, now. It was cool at one point, now I guess I'm just a little tired of it.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."It's not my favorite song (by far) but I don't dislike it as much as Just Be Friends so...I guess I'm pretty "eh" too. And I would probably say that that is the best cover I've heard.
SHAMWOW IS NOT OXYCLEAN. A DOG IS NOT A BROTHERNah, it's not mine either. I might've been excited about it in my early days of Vocaloid fandom, but now... yeah.
That said, Rana did cover it really well.
On a side note, Neb-chan, do you mind sharing your Rana avatar with me?
Power FX leaked (for a sense of the word) that Vocaloid4 is coming soon. Looks like Crypton is never going to finish updating all their Vocaloids, poor things. They'd almost done Luka's appends and then Vocaloid3 came along and they had to delay it all, now history is repeating itself.

“Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind.” TPRana does sound just like a cuter Miku...
Vocaloid 4 already? I thought that Vocaloid 3 would go on for another year or two...
Progress is nice, but I wish they'd give some love to the Vocaloids they already have.
3-4 years is pretty normal for new engine releases, I think.
“Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind.” TPVocaloid4, huh? Gotta say I'm pretty excited.
No problem, Ichi~ I'll send it after writing this post.
I'm also excited for Vocaloid 4. Mostly I'm focused on seeing that new American Vocaloid and the Kagamine's English voicebank for now, however.
SHAMWOW IS NOT OXYCLEAN. A DOG IS NOT A BROTHERBut the Kagamines can already do English.
Natasha Allegri was asked, along with another artist, to do some concepts for Vocaloid Ruby. We don't know if she'll be picked to be the official artist yet though. https://twitter.com/natazilla/status/527728520215011328
(Got confirmation it's Ruby from the developer)
“Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind.” TPI like the last one.
Middle one looks too much like Miku and Rana and the first one looks too much like Tingle.
Though the last one looks like Gumi, I'm more partial to short hair than twin tails or cone hats.
Thank you as well for giving suggestions :) I appreciate the effort!
I'll make sure to check out some of those Rana songs. I'll also see if I can contribute some...
