In that it's permanently at the bottom of the ranking, yes. Doesn't have the established history to keep it around for much longer, though
I am going to start a thread about Shonen Heroes always winning. how it may not necessarily true that they always win and how perceptions may not match reality. Should I go thorough with it or should I just post here in Chatterbox?
"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."Maybe start talking about it here and if the discussion has enough meat to it start a separate thread?
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobAlrighty.
I am not sure if anyone has heard this before but what do you guys think about the whole 'shonen heroes always winning' thing? I used to think that way too but it was only until after reading some analysis on some of my favorite manga characters, that I realized that I may had been wrong about it. Contrary to popular belief, most of the characters do not always win their fights, they actually do have nuanced personalities and even fewer characters can really be called invincible. It makes me wonder if large majority of those memes are due to either Values Dissonance, oversaturation, Trope Decay or misinformation?
"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."Its more 'Shonen leads are the only ones allowed to win vs arc bosses' and there are very very few exceptions to that.
Goku is the only one who gets to defeat Buu, Frieza Vegeta etc in Dragon Ball Z for instance, the only reason why Gohan won vs Cell was he was intended to be the new lead.
It kills any tension in most Shonen fights as the winner is already decided before the fight starts if its the Big Bad. Mook fights vs the non-main character are only the places where things can be up in the air.
Its the same thing if it is a tournament arc, you know the lead is going to be in the final vs either the rival, Big Bad or a Mister X and its kinda a snooze fest of tension getting there except for the matches where none of the above are involved since anyone can advance.

I guess that makes sense I see that happening in Dragon Ball but how much of the tropes are also cultural differences?
"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."No real cultural differences really, it happens a lot in western shows too. Just the serial nature of anime and manga make it really clear.
That's what I been saying! What happened in past year or so?? Is there some change in the way the magazine is run that I'm not aware of??
Kubo has been sick for a long time, no surprise there. Naruto really went well past how long it should have lasted anyway. Stopped reading AC, don't know how well timed the ending was.
Nisekoi and Beelzebub did get rushed endings but I'm assuming that's because the authors just aren't that good of writers.
Dunno about the rest, but people have been saying Torako was ending for a long time so I doubt it was sudden or anything.

It felt to me like a lot of the lower-ranked series were pressured into ending. And a fair amount just ended naturally
And Hunter X Hunter (in the top right corner) is just on yet another hiatus, so expect it to resume sometime in the foreseeable future.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Hahahahaha... you will get 2 chapters of scribbles every two years, big whoop.
At least they got something. Meanwhile, Black Lagoon's creator is in a bad funk for an indefinite period of time.. :(
ACCOUNT NO LONGER USED. *straps on jetpack*What kind of funk?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. The last time Togashi came back he had actually decent polished art, probably because his wife is helping him now.
You're right we're getting very little per year tho.
i always wonder what kind of dirt Togashi has on Jump editors that they put up with his shit.
He's about the only big name draw currently left to the magazine and I guess each time he's in it they get a sales jump.
Back when YYH was a thing,it was WSJ's biggest thing,so they kinda worked him to death. So he got a new contract with Hx H,plus the luck to have a buncha other hits show up I guess.
Secret SignatureHe has been apparently helping his wife a lot with her worldwide business empire and Salior Moon Crystal.
Other than Oda.
He's one of a tiny handful of mangaka in the industry successful enough that he can afford to not have an inhumane work schedule. Is how he gets away with it.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Whatever happened to Highschool of the Dead? The hiatus has long gotten ridiculously stretched.

Some kind of falling out between artist and writer, IIRC.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."
so i've picked up this new one called Red Sprite. it has a lot of the stuff i like: ambitious, noble MC, supporting cast with a lot of potential for growth, airships, and electricity powers. so far, so good.
from what i've read, this comic's filling in Bleach's spot on the Shonen Jump lineup.
