There are explicitly stated to be countless Sessions that do not succeed; their Alpha timelines are ones of failure.

The Alpha timeline is defined by more than a Session's success or failure; it's the timeline in which all the loops are fulfilled, for one means of recognizing it; and it's also the timeline that isn't doomed.

If you don't believe me, consider: a Session has no doomed timelines, and fails. How can their one timeline not be the Alpha? Doomed timelines are explicitly offshoots that branch from the Alpha timeline; we know they can't have been timelines that the Alpha branched off of because that plays hell with the causality of the loops; for instance, in the Davesprite timeline, Calsprite means that Gamzee can't find Lil' Cal to be told to do whatever it was he was told to do, and John's death means he couldn't Scratch the Session, the lack of further conversation with the Trolls means that they wouldn't learn to Scratch their Session anyways, there's no Bec Noir to go and mess up the Troll's Session, and Dave and Rose's consciousness both exit the timeline when it closes and literally ceases to exist which means that a bunch of shit that would have to happen to make B1 happen can't.

That is the distinction of the Alpha timeline, I thought we'd been over this before.

Finally, yes, Skaia needs all the players to enter and bring prototyped kernelsprites to be able to have a fully prepared Battlefield, and even without that, if only one player enters, it's a Dead Session, which is not conventionally winnable at all.

I get why it makes people happy. I think those reasons are sort of pathetic, but I don't see any reason to deny people their happiness. But it's an out of universe retcon, there's really no two ways about it.

Like, look, feeling that an author changed his mind about a fictional character's sexuality is not a bad thing. And Hussie probably did change his mind; that's also not a bad thing, but disliking an out-of-universe retcon simply for being a retcon independent of the actual content of the retcon is a valid feeling?
