There was definitely subtext (like the aforementioned penis ouija) but subtext does not a well-written relationship make.

As for relationships in general, I would say that any of the ones that were directly affected by the retcons (either having their development interrupted, removed, or created) were mishandled.

I don't think the penis ouija thing is subtext. Sexual orientation aside, Dave is exactly the kind of guy who would taunt his friends with crudely drawn cartoon dicks. I can't say it's definitely not DaveKat subtext, but I strongly feel that it isn't.

And while I may agree that the big retcon led to more than one Relationship Writing Fumble, it is not itself a RWF.

It's true that Dave might do that, but in that particular context I can see how it might be interpreted like that.

It's still pretty vanilla, but I made a page for Homestuck Act Omega, in case anybody wants to contribute.

Speaking of fanventures that are pretty hip, Redditstuck is still a thing, surprisingly. There are clearly some genuine concepts at play here, and I like how the story tries to incorporate the actual Reddit experience into the comic itself, much like Homestuck is built on the wireframes of instant messaging, gaming culture, and the wild west days of the internet preceding and following the dot com bubble burst.

Oh, is it? I haven't been to /r/homestuck in a while.

How is it doing that, exactly?

Most recently it introduced a flash page that's kind of a combination of walkarounds and memos that basically is just a Reddit thread but plot relevant. It's nothing specific, just the general flow of conversation feels very Reddit-y. It's not perfect, it still very much feels tacked onto Homestuck's interface, but it's a step I don't see many fanventures taking, that is to say actually updating the source material.

Out of curiosity, does Hussie have a history of doing April Fool's jokes?

Unrelated to April Fool's Day, but I think I've found jazz music's answer to Homestuck. Behold: Exigence by Mass Extinction Event. It's about the apocalypse and internet memes (the audio from a particular viral video even shows up as a repeating motif), and it mixes a bunch of disparate genres together (big-band jazz, metal, dubstep, drum-n-bass, post-rock).

Hell, if I were adapting Homestuck as a movie or TV series, this composer (Adam Neely) would be my first choice for adapting the soundtrack to the new medium.

"Allegedly" the Odd Gentlemen, the video game company Hussie hired after the Kickstarter, stole the kickstarter money to make King's Quest instead and barely did any work on Hiveswap, eventually leading Hussie to take the fraction of money still remaining and have What Pumpkin learn to make video games.
