yawn

I messed up by using Thunderbolt instead of Tailwind. It's bad, but definitely not one of the worst thing I did.

So this just in: Type:Null and Silvally are confirmed Legendaries, while Ultra Beasts are not.

Even though Ultra Beasts are coded legendaries in game, it seems they are a new subset.

So now we have: Legendaries, Mythicals, and Ultra Beasts.

Meanwhile, the game code has only 2 flags: sublegendary and legendary. And all Ultra beasts are sublegendary and all mythicals are legendary.

And remember, Cosmog is subject to the same limitations as Primal Groudon, due to sharing the legendary flag.

Its rather wonky; We have Legendaries, Myhticals, and Ultra Beasts officially speaking but in practice. We only have two sets in game, the ones you can use in-battle facilities and the ones you can't.

Is that more important in Doubles?

I've never seen anyone use Iron Head on Metagross before.

Tried Meteor Mash on Mega Metagross before. The attack boost is nice and all, but having 90% accuracy feels like it will miss at crucial moments.

This week False Swipe covers Togetic/Togekiss.

Togetic was pretty bad overall, had nothing that really stood out. Togekiss was a much needed upgrade and was amazing in Gen IV (god I hated paraflinch back then). Power Creep hit it in Gen V, but it was still good at least. Gen VII made it much better defensively with a new Fairy typing, but added weaknesses didn't help it, but it lost to most of the Pokemon that gave it trouble anyway.

Ya know, it's occurred to me that Gen V is probably the biggest Power Creep in the entire series going by these videos. Either Pokemon became amazing or trash in it.

Gen V introduced a lot of real heavy-hitters. 140 was not an uncommon attacking stat, and a lot of Pokemon were minmaxed to hell on top of it.

It also introduced Drizzle Politoed and Drought Ninetales.

I think there's been new weather setter Pokemon every generation, mostly old Pokemon given new weather abilities.

Gen V gave us 6 "legal" legendaries (9 if you count the separate formes) and the terror of Eviolite.

Not counting them, I still find Gen IV's Pokemon to have a leg up in term of efficient stat spread.

Its crazy to think that 130 is considered an "average" Attacking stat nowadays when it used to be one of the highest stats. In fact, Dragonite and Tyranitar were tied for the absolute highest physical attackers before Gen III at 134.

I consider "average" to be around 120.

130 used to be the general "maximum" any attacking stat reached back in the first two generations. There were only a few exceptions, such as Dragonite and Tyranitar's 134 Attack, Alakazam's 135 Special Attack, and of course Mewtwo's 154 Special Attack. Defensive stats tended to be low, but the few oddballs that existed tended to have really high defenses at the expense of everything else, like Blissey's capped HP, Shuckle's 230 defenses, or Cloyster and Steelix's 180 and 200 Defense.

Even Gens III and IV tended to not exceed attacking stats of 130 all that often except on Legendaries, though defensive stats started to climb with things like Torkoal and Aggron casually breaking 140 without sacrificing every other stat. It wasn't until Gen V that super-130 attacking stats became the norm rather than the exception, with Darmanitan, Haxorus, Conkeldurr, Archeops, Gigalith, Excadrill, Escavalier, Chandelure, and Volcarona all running around.

Gens VI and VII went pretty nuts with Legendaries and Mega Evolutions, but they actually dialed back on ordinary Pokemon. Except Aegislash, the What-The-Hell-Were-You-Thinking Pokemon.

I'd still agree with [up], though. 130 is still a pretty high attacking stat. 120 is closer to "average" for an offensive-oriented Pokemon.

There's also BP increase. After Gen I with the Hyper Beam and Blizzard hellhole, the later gens dialed down a bit... and then Gen IV gave us moves like Close Combat, which is responsible for the rise of Fighting type until Gen VII. Draco Meteor and Outrage also get spammed around. Infernape was badass despite its average (at the time) offense thanks to its hyper mixed STAB.

Abilities like Sheer Force, Huge Power, Adaptability, Defiant, -ate, and Water Bubble also increase the overall offense.

Kinda interesting how much min-maxing there was in Gen V when the version legendaries both had kinda generic and disappointing stat distribution.
