Are there no fighting types around early on in HG/SS?
Lol @ Hercross carrying johto. In gen 4 sure. In gen 2? Heracross was TRASH back then as his movelist was abysmal(only rock smash and fury cutter via tm for STAB until Megahorn at like level 50-something). Him and Pinsir both suffered from not being able to take proper advantage of their types. Bug type stunk to high heaven in gen 2.
Totodile was the best starter due to learning bite and ice punch via tm. These two could carry you quite far into the game, plus it was beefy enough to take hits and rage was really strong first two gyms. I always balked at people claiming cyndaquil was the best...not with that pitiful moveset.

I'm guessing this would be as fun as Misty in FRLG with Charmander as the starter.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. You can get Machop before the first badge.
You trade drowzee for a female machop named muscle in goldenrod.
Just watch out for miltank's stomp.
I do now enjoy how much Fighting type moves Pinsir has.
It's a shame how they designed Mega Pinsir and Heracross to counter each other, but they made Pinsir's mega really good and Heracross' mega lose to it completely.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseKinda compensates for Heracross being Pinsir with 50% more damage.
Also, being Bug/Flying is not a blessing.
You know what Pokemon has surprisingly carried me through early game Gen II this time round?
Fucking Dunsparce. I lucked out getting that 1% chance in the Dark Cave and now Fat Snake Saturday (named in game as just Saturday) has been MVP for a while
I managed to trounce Whitney with an underleveled one by using Glare and then overboarding with Spites and Heatbutts
The fact I had my Bayleef just pull off 6 Flashes before fainting helped

I'm having to learn to pay the priceFlying STAB is pretty nice in OU (with added Flying priority in Aerilate Quick Attack) at least.
Yeah, Flying is a damn fine offensive typing, but Bug/Flying is quite lackluster in terms of resistances and weaknesses.
Both Mega Pinsir and Mega Heracross are really good, and, even if Mega Pinsir has the advantage in 1v1, it cannot switch with impunity against Mega Heracross. That Rock Blast is scary.
And caught Mareep and now evolved it into Flappy. Seems like Ampharos have a fairly decent stat and I like having an electricity type so eh.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Flaffy. Yeah amphy is good, though he was slightly better in gen 2 due to thunderpunch being special instead of physical. However amphy's movelist overall is better in gen 4 and you only have to wait 5 levels until discharge.
Tbh I don't remember what your other options were in gen 2 as far as electric types were concerned anyways. There was what, Pikachu and Magnemite and that was it? I know you get Electrodes near the end of the game but by that point you probably have a whole squad.
Ampharos is pretty useful. It's stuck with just Electric attacks until Signal Beam at level 42 and Power Gem at 59, though.
I don't know if you noticed or if anyone told you, but there was a significant overhaul to the battle system between FRLG and HGSS.
In the older games, the move's type determined which attack and defense stats they used; Fire moves always used the user's Special Attack and the target's Special Defense stat, while Normal moves always used Attack and Defense, for example. This got strange with moves like Thunderpunch and Hyper Beam, which were Special and Physical respectively, due to their typings.
Now every attack is either Physical or Special on a move-to-move basis.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!@dRoy: are you playing the original or the remake?

... And that's called jazz!Faced Whitney. And...huh.
That was easy.
Just had Flaffy use Thunder Wave twice and had Quilava repeatedly throw Flamewheel at it. The Stomp is pretty damn powerful, yes.
Shame I didn't get to see Miltank use its Rollout. Then again, probably should be grateful. XP
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Thunder Wave kinda ruins Rollout.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseYeah. If Rollout misses or fails to go off then its damage multiplier is reset.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I had a harder time on Morty than Whitney. I actually lost to him.
Goddammit, Schezo... || *insert incredibly thirsty copypasta about Dr. Ratio*Bring some szechuan sauce next time.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI hate Whirlwind and Roar so much. It's as if AI is trying to screw me over and force me to distribute EXP, even to HM mules.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. They're even more annoying if you're nuzlocking a game because it makes certain mons (like growlithe, vulpix, volcarona, etc) really hard to catch if you find them at particular levels.
Caught Heracross. He shall be a main member. Oh yes....

If you have a female Geodude you should be fine.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?
