I understand gen 1 since many Pokemon have decent Special stat, but what do you mean about going mixed in gen 2? A common complaint is worthless Dark types except Tyranitar.
Non Indicative UsernameThe only game i've played from the pre-split era was VC Blue, and while I had a good time, pre-split (and i guess Gen 1 as a whole) was strange.
That being said, I still wanna play Gen 2 or 3 one of these days. I need to get a chart of what types where considered Physical/Special, cuz frick if I know.
Goddammit, Schezo... || *insert incredibly thirsty copypasta about Dr. Ratio*Physical: Rock, Poison, Ground, Flying, Bug, Normal, Ghost, Fighting, Steel.
Special: Water, Electric, Grass, Psychic, Fire, Ice, Dragon, Dark.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Eeveelutions (Grass, Water, Electric, Ice, Dark, Psychic, Fire, Fairy?) and Dragon are Special, the rest are Physical.
Non Indicative UsernameThe irony was that Dark was special even though almost all Dark types had physical stats, and all previously existing Dark moves were reclassed to physical after the split. They had to make new ones for the tiny handful of Dark special attackers.
GF was not very good at working within the limits of the system they had prior to the physical/special split. I.e Crawdaunt made no sense.
The most confusing one is that Ghost was physical.
The physical/special split was one of the best things to happen to this series.
I sure said that!it's the best thing gen iv did, no question.
Oh so what happened in Gen 3 was the Special Attack and Special Defense split?
My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!no, that happened in gen 2.
gen 3 introduced abilities and natures.

No. That was back in Gen 2.
One Strip! One Strip!Physical Ghost makes sense when you remember that Lick was the only non-fixed damaging Ghost move at first.
not really though because the only ghosts at the time were special attackers.
And for 2 gens it let normal attackers use Shadow Ball.
The only casualty of the Physical/Special split was elemental punching Alakazam.
If there's any truth to it, it might be why there's an alleged Fighting type Alola Abra line coming.
But in return it gets Shadow Ball, Grass Knot, and Focus Blast.
Non Indicative UsernamePsychics pretty much all get Thunderbolt now, too.
... Still confused that Reunicleus only getting Thunder and not Thunderbolt, though.
I sure said that!Really? That's kind of weird.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseYou can check any time you'd like- I can't make sense of it myself but it's true. I'm pretty sure this is the only case of this sorta thing happening, at least with TM moves.
I sure said that!I feel like something like this has happened once or twice before, but I can't think of what it was.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseGen 3 introduced EV spreads and natures; in gen 2, the only variation were I Vs (D Vs I think they were called); you could max up everything.
As for Elepunch Alakazam, it now has stronger moves to back up Psychic/Psyshock. Shadow Ball and Dazzling Gleam are both slighty stronger than the punches and have better coverage than the 3.
I feel like these days, the punching moves should be removed from the Abra line, because for some reason, they still do.
Also, if you want your minds to break, it has access to Drain Punch.
Goddammit, Schezo... || *insert incredibly thirsty copypasta about Dr. Ratio*And Rhydon and Aggron have massive special movepools. No need to REMOVE stuff.
I have trouble playing the third gen due to the split. The first two gens allow you to go mixed without any penalty, while post-split gens allow you to go either physical or special with most type combinations. Gen III restricts your effectiveness according to which types you are going to use together.
Then again, I played the fuck out of gen III, and loved it. I'm still sore about not being able to go to Navel Rock due to the event never happening in Spain (despite the official Nintendo magazine having pictures of Navel Rock, complete with Spanish text, in the release review of the games), however.
Mmm, I am replaying Yellow/Stadium 1 and Crystal/Stadium 2 at the moment. Maybe when I finish, Emerald and Platinum may be in order.
