-*slaps forehead*

Right. Looking at my lineup, I've got not one, but three Grass and Psychic counters- Wevile and Charizard for Grass, and Wevile and Scyther for Psychic. Right, Ice Beam it is -_-;

Not to mention you now have a sturdy (thoguh slow) Dragon killer.

No, make that two.

I like Lanturne enough to put it in my Favourites Team. It's the most adorable angler fish I've ever had.

To wit, Team Favourites:

  1. Flygon
  2. Breloom
  3. Ninetales
  4. Lanturne
  5. Scizor
  6. Butterfree

I'm glad to see cute Lanturn is everybody's favorite. We ought to make it the official Pokémon of TV Tropes!

Besides, well, Tropius

Tropius is an eternal member of my Field Team, because not only does it learn a ton of HM moves and Sweet Scent, it also has delicious neckbananas and a cool cry. Just because I don't battle using a Tropius doesn't mean I dislike it.

Also, pokemon gijinka fanart of a girl wearing a brown dress with a necklace of tiny banana-shaped stones and a palm-leaf scarf.

I also like Flygon and Breloom.

Fuck Garchomp Flygon's where the fun is.

... am I the only one that thinks the art team got seriously lazy on Breloom and just stuck a mushroom on Ampharos? >.>

Heh... actually, to be honest, Lanturn's hyper-cutesy thing was one of the things that almost made me go with something else; if you look at the rest of my lineup, 'cute' is... uhm, kind of not happening. The only thing that kept it on the lineup was the fact that I already had a Steel-type in Steelix (my personal favourite, and I don't care if it's not nearly as good as it used to be), so Magnemite was out, and there weren't any other dual-Electric choices (used Rotom already, and Zapdos is legendary). Well, that and Lanturn's awesome tongue

Tropius is also awesome- I can't stop imagining my little trainer-avvie standing on the back of this zarking huge flying brontosaurus thing to direct the battles.

Although what they were thinking when they forced you to need not one, but two HM Slaves in generation IV, I'm not sure -_-;

HM diversity?

At least Dive wasn't necessary anymore.

Meh. I'm from the school that thinks we need less HM diversity, not more.

  • Surf = Swim Trunks/Bathing Suit
  • Rock Smash = Sledgehammer
  • Defog = A fan (enchanted or electric or whatever) or maybe IR goggles
  • Strength = Sturdy lever-and-fulcrum
  • Rock Climb = Climbing gear
  • Cut = Hedgeclippers
  • Waterfall = ... okay, for this one, I've got nothing.
  • Fly = Jetpack, maybe? It's certainly within the tech levels shown

Granted, I'm not sure we need more Key Items cluttering up the inventory either, but at least we wouldn't need to take up a third of our fricking available Mons just to get around.

Tough to stuff in a backpack, though tongue

Then again, you can fit a Waillord into a Pokeball, so who knows?

EDIT- As a random aside, Kinkajou, I'm having a really hard time not 'hearing' your posts being read by Jonathan Frakes >.>

This type of thing is in-line with stuff like Ruby/Sapphire's sand goggles, which worked perfectly well as a Broken Bridge without taking up good moveslots.

Well, Surf, Strength, and Fly are decent moves, (with Surf being more than just decent) so no need to get rid of them.

And so is Waterfall, post-physical-special split.

Also, does anyone else here think the new generations are like new editions of Pokemon?

I'd rather they beef up all the HM moves besides Surf, Waterfall and Strength to be more worthwhile.

  • Rock Smash - Increase power
  • Fly - Increase power, give it priority
  • Defog - Moves entry hazards over to your opponent's side of the battlefield
  • Cut - Swift-accuracy and +1 crit chance
  • Rock Climb - Make it Rock-type, give it 100 accuracy
  • Whirlpool - make it a little more accurate, it's a fine trapping move otherwise. Make the Damp Rock improve its ability to trap the opponent.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!

Oh... I'm not advocating getting rid of the HM moves entirely- just don't make it so that I'm forced to load up two of my six slots with them exclusively >.<

I'd really kind of like to be able to train my whole team from the start, rather than just four of them because two slots are eaten by HM mules -_-;

(as an aside, I named my two HM mules Atari and Asimov- much nerd cred to those that can figure out why waii)

You know what I did? Switch my Bibarel and Wingull around. You really don't need Fly and Defog as much as Cut/Strength/Rock Smash/Rock Climb.

Meh. I kept them both around just to avoid having to slog back to town every time I spotted something that looked kind of interesting (although I used a Tropius rather than a Wingull- between Bibarrel and Tropius, you can get every single HM).

I'd rather just get rid of most of the functionally identical HM obstacles. Having more variety in the environment is okay, but from a gameplay point of view, Cut, Waterfall, Rock Climb, and Whirlpool present the exact same problem, and Rock Smash, Defog, and Flash aren't much better. I want more HMs like Strength, which can at least be used for block puzzles, or Surf and Dive, which give you new areas entirely.
