Alright, confess odd things.

For example, I'm jealous to my big brother becuase he discovered The Smiths first. Dammit, now I can't have a crush for Morrisey without feeling weird about it.

[up]I've never lost anyone close to me, so any story involving that is automatically out.

I've never been seriously injured, or in any other kind of physical peril, so any story involving that is automatically out.

I've never had a hero's journey, so that is automatically out.

How many times have you had this conversation now?

[up][up]....No, it's not really a case of comparing them to you.

We empathise with these characters because they feel human to us, and sometimes the situations they're in are meant to generate empathy on the audience's part.

[up]So how does them something totally ludicrous or impossible in real life make them feel "human"?

...Uhh... their characterization, mostly.

At least I assume that's the case.

...God, I'm terrible at explaining this.

The fact that you're not supposed to completely identify with them still holds true.

[up]Then what can I grab onto if they're doing something that is literally impossible in real life?

You just like them as a character. Like in real life, how you like other people for what they're like even if they're not like you.

... likety like like.

I'm not very comfortable talking religion. It's just not something I talk about or think about often and, thus, I'm not usually prepared to argue about it.

Me Too. I feel that I need to be somewhat knowledgeable about a subject before I talk about it. I don't really feel like I have to talk anyway but I am not anti social.

I prefer how female Gyarados looks compared to the male ones Difference . I also prefer/pride myself on having non-stereotypical or rare genders on my pokemon, e.g. a female Kabuto, Wartortle or Machoke, (but not male Gardevoir due to Squicky implications) for some odd reason.

[up]They only exist in the confines of the movie, as something created by a writer to entertain me for the length of the movie. Never as inspiration, entertainment, or motivation.

Seems cold.

This is less the fault of the writer and more the fault of you looking too deep, not just into the work, but fiction as a whole.

Literally no amount of good writing will ever change the fact that they're fictional.

[up][up] ...You seem to be the only one that I've seen express that opinion.

Are you genuinely apathetic or is this something else we're not aware of?

[up]I just haven't found the right thing yet, I guess.

As I said, action bores me because it's just a whole bunch of filler for an outcome that I already know is going to happen the second the antagonist is established.

Comedy only works if the jokes land for me — and if they do I find myself tuning out literally everything else just to get to the next joke. And most good comedies aren't really known for their plot anyway.

Horror doesn't work because I know it's fictional and will literally never scare me.

Fantasy doesn't work because I had such a negative experience with the Harry Potter franchise that it's kind of soured magical fantasy as a whole for me.

Even a movie I like, I just go "Well, that was good" and stop thinking about it the second the credits roll. No movie has ever "moved" me in any way other than "This is doing a good job of not sucking".

It's not like I'm apathetic either, because I find that I get emotional when I work on my own fictional setting.

I pronounce NieR not as "near" like in the adjective or the Death Note character, but more like "ne-air" (with a silent "i").

You know how when a cashier hands back your change, they count up to the amount you gave them?

I never understood that.

It's meant to help ensure to the customer that they have been given the correct amount of change without them having to think about the math.

Whenever I see a subpage for any work, I get incredibly irritated when that subpage is barely a page-length.

Come on, at least force me to scroll once.

[up][up]I still find it distracting because I know how much I freaking gave you. You don't need to count up to it, and throw more numbers in to throw me off.
