Picture is Misleading and Unclear: One Winged Angel

If the name is bad but so entrenched it's impossible to change  *

, is that true of the image also? I like the current pic (no transformation sequence or whatever) for the same reason I like the name One-Winged Angel. They are both bad (and epic!) in an extremely similar way, for an extremely similar reason.

(Rename thread)

Also: I am not a Sephiroth fan. I played Final Fantasy 1-6 but lost interest in early 7, annoyed at spending more time watching cutscenes than playing.

I think the tropes image is or at least should be much easier to change than the trope's name. In order for a trope/articles name to be changed, it's going to a very drastic change, and will often lead to a lot of Red Links and Redirects. The image, on the other hand, is much more flexible as it really only exists on the page itself. Plus, a trope may have a bad/misleading name as a result of the Grandfather Clause but the image still needs to serve as an instantly recognizable example. And unless you've actually played Final Fantasy VII, the image does nothing to explain the trope.

"And unless you've actually played Final Fantasy VII, the image does nothing to explain the trope."

Yes. Had to read. I have no factual objection to your case besides "but it's awesome!" It reminds me of Garland / Chaos. FF1 was the first video game I bought with my own money; tho, I know nostalgia is not a good defense.

It's like that Crowning Music Of Awesome Video Games conversation we had a couple of months ago. While the original image displayed might have been a good example and certainly a CMOA in it's own right, the problem was that it was simply too specific and required that visitors actually had some knowledge of the game in order to get the reference.

A page image should instantly describe the trope, first and foremost, without any necessary background concerning the example.

You don't like the Sephiroth before/after picture? I'm guessing it's because it' not entirely clear that Sephiroth becomes the after image?

I kind of like that he's almost unrecognizeable in the after shot, it does show how altered they can be from the transformation. But I suppose that it needs to hint at SOME kind of transformation, to avoid just being two seperate, unrelated images.

Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.

[up] Yeah. I mean, I know we didn't like the Giga Bowser image but the reason I suggested it is because you can actually see the "transformation sequence" in the first image to his Final Form in the last one. If there's a Sephiroth image that has this, I'd be all for it.

Another possibility that would be more familiar to people would be Maleficent turning into a dragon at the end of Sleeping Beauty:

EDIT: It was requested that I do a version which has the top two panels being the same width. I'm not sure it's any better or worse, but judge for yourself:

^^^Agreed, transformation is relatively clear from image to image. If we aren't going to use the Trope Namer, I say go for that one.

Most Triumphant Looking Example, not Most Triumphant Example or Trope Namer, imo

Looks good to me, although we have a similar Maleficent picture over on Scaled Up. On the other hand, the other one could also use improvement, so maybe put Maleficent here and find another Scaled Up image (I'm looking at you, Jafar)?

[up] Maleficent is a fearsome face and a caption, but just a face and a caption nonetheless, on Scaled Up.

I say put the Maleficent image up on One-Winged Angel and start a new topic for Scaled Up.

I say, use the Maleficent image for this trope, and perhaps assign Scaled Up to an image of Jafar turning into a snake.

Went ahead and did it, and put up a Jafar pic over on Scaled Up.

WTF just bugs me

The picture in One-Winged Angel was fine in my view,it should of stayed. The transforming into a dragon should of gone into Scaled Up.

Where were you like 20 posts ago?

Look, we've already decided that even though it is the Trope Namer the Sephiroth image is simply JAFAAC (and even a seemingly contradictory one at that, being that he has in fact seven wings not one). The only reason why we literally can't rename the page altogether is because of the Grand Father Clause, which images are exempt from.

Just so there's no hard feelings, I moved the original Sephiroth to the new One-Winged Angel Image Links page [1].

So yes Lock Up This Thread- it's had a nice long run.

I don't like the Maleficent one; should've stuck with Sephiroth. Classic, as well as Trope Namer.

[up]I didn't see one Sephiroth image that actually illustrates the trope.

Maleficent looks good to me. (And the new Jafar picture looks great on Scaled Up.)
