Anything on this?
Yes, the title does not really get me to understanding the trope, and the SAT-question-type explanation didn't really help. I don't know that I agree that the title's misleading so much as that I don't even know where it leads me.
Searching for plausible mechanisms. As is, it's pretty impossible to decipher.
Wait, if this is about characters like Teal'c, then the title is actively misleading, because then the character is no longer an "enemy"!
I think the title if this should be Token Former Enemy Nonhuman or such.
Its about a member of the team who is a member of the enemy race ect. Worf is probably the Trope Codifier if not the Trope Maker.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Since it's about a member of an evil race being on the good guys' team, maybe it could be Heel–Race Turn, or something like that.
Oh wait, shit, there's already an article called that.
Well, damn.

This seems like looking for patterns but ends up being this guy made a Heel–Face Turn.
My Species Doth Protest Too Much does it better... Brain Washed And Crazy does it better... actually this all can be covered by Heel–Face Turn we can scrap this article, and summarize whatever idea it was trying to explain on the Heel–Face Turn page. Something like "likely candidates".
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackNot really... At the time of TNG, the Klingons hadn't been the Federation's enemies for decades, if not centuries. That's why Worf was allowed within ten feet of the Enterprise, the Federation's flagship, in the first place.
He is still treated like one in almost all their dealings with Klingons and then DS 9 hits.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!So...what's the deal with this?
Anyone else think this has little to separate it from My Species Doth Protest Too Much? I'd be in favor of merging/cutting this page.
I think there is a an argument to be made for keeping the trope or at least for saying it is different from Heel–Face Turn and My Species Doth Protest Too Much. From what I can tell, My Species Doth Protest Too Much is a sort of subtrope of Token Enemy Nonhuman.
- Former enemy: His race used to be the enemy, but has now become neutral or friendly with humans, so having him join the heroes' crew shows that things have changed, and the two races are getting along now.
- Defeated enemy: His race stops being villain because they lost. At best now his nation is Vestigial Empire; at worst he is Last Of His Kind.
- Assimilation victims: Someone who was assimilated but later saved, now has free will again but doesn't get restored to his original form.

"irhgT nm0w tehre might b ea lotof th1nmgs i dont udarstannd, ubt oim ujst goinjg to keepfollowing this pazth i belieove iN !!!!!1 dWhen I first heard of the trope, I thought it was referring to the bunch of non-human type creatures (e.g. 90% of the random enemies) in games that you fight.
Really needs a rename.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.I'm not sure if this thread really needs to exist, since Heel–Race Turn already exists.
Er, not thread; trope.
Heel–Race Turn is about mass simultaneous turning though. Every member of a race changes sides at the same time. This trope is about the character being a "token", individual member.
Agreed. They're very different tropes with no possible overlap.
- Heel–Race Turn: An entire race changes sides.
- Token Enemy Nonhuman: One member of an enemy race changes sides and allies himself with the protagonists against the rest of his race.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI set up a crowner here because I am not sure if everyone really supports a rename. I was a bit unsure what the best options to put on the crowner were, so feel free to edit it as you see fit.

"irhgT nm0w tehre might b ea lotof th1nmgs i dont udarstannd, ubt oim ujst goinjg to keepfollowing this pazth i belieove iN !!!!!1 dWell choose that name basing on Token Enemy Minority name.
This trope is obout member of race what is antagonist for heroes or its still for audience (like Klingons in begining of TNG)
And its not the same as Heel–Face Turn because character still can be evil.
I agree maybe this trope need better name (still its better that one I start with YKTW)
Maybe Token Enemy Minority also have missleading title.

Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.I think everyone agrees that it needs a rename.
But into what name? I can come up with better than fantastic version of Token Enemy Minority.
Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.Well, we have to come up with something.
Not if the "do nothing" option keeps rising. :)
Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
What's this even about? From the title I would guess it's about one specific enemy character who isn't human, but the article says that it's a character from an "evil" race that performs a Heel–Face Turn.
If that's the case, could we have a title that's less confusing?
