In case the show doesn't give the real translation, the words the people are chanting this episode is Mayan and means "Divine Lord Cacao shi-jiiy". I forget what shi-jiiy means, but it's a title. Cacao is the chocolate plant.

That's what I thought.
I wikipedia'd it, and wikipedia didn't have a name for the person.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyWikipedia doesn't have anything on a lot of things from non-Greek/Roman mythologies.
x4 so the dude got immortality from the god of chocolate? Neat

You lost!I hate this episode's camera. And it's idea is quite uninteresting.
Also, this kid was an idiot. As were the brothers for just assuming "Mayan god".
The only reason I'm still watching this episode is because I'm in a Nielsen house, but haven't been able to watch any episode yet. Had I watched any other, I'd just turn off the TV.
This episode really sucks.
So how long into the episode did you guys think this would be a Poorly Disguised Pilot? About 10 minutes for me. Incidentally, I just noticed Backdoor Pilot sounds kind of like one of those comically exaggrated insults for a gay person.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI disagree 100%. I consider this one of the best episodes in multiple seasons.
It's unusual in Supernatural for you to really be able to attach yourself to the "NP Cs" because they tend to die and most of the screentime is on Sam and Dean. And that's natural. But this episode subverted that. And it also subverted Dean's normal "Welp, it's a monster gotta kill it" element. I thought it was extremely compelling.
That being said, I can see the "awp, this is a pilot" element, but I don't know that you could spin a show off of "werewolf girl desperately tries not to eat humans."

Use \\ at the end of your lines to carry the same format to the next line.
The characters weren't dislikeable. They were just utterly predictable. Well, the one selfish guy was.
She could just come back at a later point in this show, of course. Still, isn't half of this channel's lineup monster shows now?

The sad, REAL American dichotomyNothin wrong with being predictable if it's not boring.
Well, I found it boring, and a pain to look at. But that's me.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyA lot of wasted potential. A lot of the dialogue needed to be far more naturalistic and it really struggled to give a good reason to have a few of its scenes filmed. The acting was mostly great, but the villain couldn't really hack the cod-evil acting at the end (probably should have underplayed it).
There was some uninspired directional choices (which I guess you could argue either way about some of these, but ultimately if I'm watching a crappy looking product then it's a crappy looking product). But some of the staging was terrible — though that's nothing new for Supernatural.
Plus the make-up was a bit of a problem. Broke the reality of the scenes.
Ultimately, I thought they chickened out of the gayness of the thing. Maybe it's personal bias, but if they upped the homoeroticism and subtext I'd have liked the entire thing a lot more. The stuff between the lead and the professor, or him and his best mate. I dunno, that felt more honest to me given the obsession he has of filming him. Film=voyeur=attraction being the classic formula, after all.

This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.I guess I just really liked the premise of the episode. I was totally annoyed at first, wondering if they were going to go the entire episode like this, but then I got into it.
I really liked the episode. I think it's been one of the better ones in a while. It was also refreshing not to listen to the brothers constantly bitch at each for an episode.
It's very, very unlikely this was a Backdoor Pilot. It's not like this is the first time Supernatural has done an episode in this style, remember Ghostfacers?
Actually, Ghostfacers did wind up with a webseries.
I think it could've been, but likely wasn't. Man, the style on the episode was so bad, though.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyYou either loved it or hated it ;P
So I just saw the finale of season 4.
AH! So my paranoid ramblings about the true nature of Ruby where right.
The Great Northern Threadkill.Just finding time to catch up? I hope you're enjoying it. Now comes Season 5...
The sad, REAL American dichotomyYeah, I can't exactly watch episodes every day.
Pretty hyped up for season 5, especially since I know that one of my favorite characters appear in it. I am way too curious for my own good and spoiled myself the fun, but eh.
The Great Northern Threadkill.Yesssssssss.
Can't wait to see him again, especially given what I know.
The Great Northern Threadkill.Season 5 is the best season. Probably the best season for the show to have gone out on. Obviously, it DIDN'T, but still.
We get two series finales. The upcoming one, and the logical one.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyHa ha, yeah.
Well, closing hell sounds like it could be a semi-logical series finale, but everything past Season 5 has been pretty nuts.
