I started playing and lurking on the Historical Armored Vehicles forums after he was permabanned, but I gather he once counted the civilians massacred by the Nazis in an attempt to "prove" German superiority on the basis of "superior kill ratios"...yuk. On the other hand, that's second/third hand, so there's that.

But not to worry - I'm restarting my arty grind at the moment actually. Sold all my old pieces (in fact, I've sold all my tanks aside from the 38t (na) and the StuG) and trying to decide which tree to go down. It's hard though. But I shall take savage glee in dropping hunks of burning love on all the anti-arty whiners when I finally decide. evil grin

I tried American, British and French arty. I quit Americans at tier 4 and the other two at tier 3, because arty is too slow for me and I got bored.

re Garbad: Garbad? A Wehraboo? When, at any time, his garage is filled with Soviet steel? Seriously guys? He's the furthest from that label as Kewei not being a damage farmer par excellance.

His hate for artillery is genuine though. :>

He's well-known for buying all of the Wehrmacht and SS propaganda hook, line, and sinker. Just because he's not quite dumb enough to let that keep him from using useful tanks in-game, even if they aren't made of KRUPPSTAHL, doesn't mean that he's not a grade-A wehraboo, and he will show it pretty much any time he tries to talk on historical matters, during which he will, given half a chance, talk about the inherent superiority of German tanks and tankers (among other things, he's advocated for capping Soviet crews at 50% skill because they were totes bad@irltanks, as well as increasing the base crew skills for German tanks because they were totally superior@irltonks).

Oh, and guess who else thought (Allied) arty was unfair? The Germans. Seriously, the USA and USSR had a lot of arty IRL.

Re: Garbad

I've got nothing but admiration for his advice on internet!tanks, which is extremely good, or for his skills. But his trouble is that he is out of his depth when it comes to history and also doesn't know how to behave - I don't give a shit if you're super-unicum, telling people who've just outplayed you to "choke to death on your stepdad's junk" is called being a huge dickhead. He's also, according to today's FTR, known to the developers too.

Best way to troll Wehraboos:

  • Step 1: Draw attention to the average 150km lifespan of the GLORIOUS PANTHER SUPERTONK's crappy spur geared final drive system.
  • Step 2: Draw attention to the M4's far more reliable and advanced double-helix geared final drive system.
  • Step 3: Conclude with: "The crux of the matter is that the Germans were very bad at making tanks."
  • Step 4: ???
  • Step 5: PROFIT!

They also hate this picture. evil grin

WoT is good (for a certain value of the word) at being an online game. It's not good at being historically accurate — even its Acceptable Breaks from Reality entry on This Very Wiki is hyooj.

On the other hand, it is also a great collection of obscure prototype tanks and planned/proposed upgrades (eg. Tiger 1 with the long 88 was a real proposed upgrade, as was the 90mm armed Hellcat, both of which were even prototyped).

Of course, that's not to say that there aren't complete fabrications in there, too (looking at you, WTF-100).

The Waffentrager auf E-100 is called the WTF E-100 because it's one of the WTF-iest tanks TDs around. Also because it's an utter and complete fabrication.

Giant AA gun mounted on the Maus chassis if I remember correctly.

I'm almost surprised the actual Nazis didn't give that a try.

E-100 chassis, actually. It was actually planned (the E-100 was supposed to be a heavy tank, a TD, an artillery piece, and an anti-aircraft gun), just never put into practice.

Nope. They were parallel developments. The E-100 was the biggest and meanest of the E-series which was tabled as the next generation of German tanks, including the E-75, the E-50, and the E-25, but it lost out to its rival, the Maus.

Loads of tanks in WOT somewhat stretch reality - WG goes with a policy that basically amounts to: if some guy jotted a few notes on the back of a napkin, then it can be in the game. The T28 Prototype is based off a single drawing in Hunnicutt's Firepower, the E-50M is an "extrapolation" of E-series plans and plans for a single rear powerpack for German tanks. Other real tanks have ahistorical guns or turrets (the T 110 E 4 for instance could not have had a turret IRL).

I still think the WTF E-100 is unique in that it was never even planned - WG just made it up.

They shoulda used the Sturm Tiger instead of the "fictional" WT Auf E-100. Why? Because the Sturm Tiger was not only built, it actually saw service as an somewhat inaccurate assault gun. In-game it would be a tier 10 KV-2.

The thing is, there's already a tier 10 KV-2 in that thing with the 183mm gun. With current damage scaling to caliber, I'm pretty sure that the rocket mortar on the Sturmtiger would reduce any tank in the game to a fine cloud of subatomic particles with a single HE shell about 10 meters away. It also runs completely contrary to the entire schtick of the WT line (big, AP-centric guns with no armor to speak of) by being a heavily armored derpmobile.

Also, the T25 AT and T25/2 are pretty much entirely made up, as are several upper-tier German upgrades (E-75 with 128mm gun, for example).

Note to self: never under the pressure of your team, lead a head-on charge against anything tier X, most T Ds or a thick-skinned tank with my E 75. The 105's DPM game doesn't work what it can't pen and it fails against something that can 3-shot me or the team doesn't flank my target.

The devs have repeatedly stated that the historical Sturmtiger cannot be balanced and so probably will not be in the game as a playable tank.

[up]...Yet, they added in the goddamned Waffentrager. Kinda a shallow excuse from the devs at this point.

Hell, you could argue the same thing about the KV-2, for that matter: it had a reputation for being a slow, but absolutely deadly beast that could take down ANY ground target, be it bunkers, tanks, houses, King Tigers, entire columns of enemy tanks... anything. Hard to kill too, with the only flaw being how incredibly slow and difficult to move it was.

Going by the FTR interview transcripts, the supertests showed that the Sturmtiger was far FAR worse than even the FV 183... Which is why they're considering it instead for Strongholds as a consumable "barrage" attack.

Ok been kicking around playing a bit lately again. I have my "Churchill I" now and the 76mm on my T-49. I had a great match with the 3" on the T-49 being a rolling terror doing "peak a boo I shoot you" with Other more powerful tanks. I wrecked some engines lots of tracks and managed to hit drivers a few times too. Some really good hind and flank shots. Best match in a while. 3 Kills and 4 damaged before kill.

I kind of like the Churchill but I know its first two guns are not exactly the best. I am not sure if I should use the gun with higher PEN or QF HE gun though.

I still hate the Lee. I had fun with my Kv-2 and the troll cannon.
