I think it's more foreshadowing than anything, seeing as they're trying to do this on a weekly basis now. Though the Silent Hill one did also reference the Kirby one towards the beginning.
And I rather like their lack of names and faces. I just know we've got the fun, nerdier friend and the more aggressive, hardcore one. And they contrast wonderfully.
