I'm pretty sure TR have beaten Ash in battle a few times in past seasons. I have lots of memories of Pikachu fainting or being nearly knocked out by Arbok and Seviper.
Also whenever Ash gets new pokemon they usually lose to TR at first since they're weak being fresh captures and all.
Don't forget James's Inkay and Jessie's Wobbuffet and Yanmega!
The Protomen enhanced my life.
And of course Likitung slaughtering THREE of the twerps' top Pokemon in a single hit.
Hell even Meowth and Koffing both managed to beat Brock's Onix.
