Seems like the new game isn't a SRPG? More like an RPG with simulation elements? Well, more Valkyria is always good, and I'm sure the new game will get a PC port when the localization is announced.

Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.

Huh, seems it's a new universe. A spiritual successor with similar concepts and alllusions but no story follow up.

Oddly enough I think that increases my interest.

Huh, very interesting. I'm not quite done with VC 1 yet (I put it down before Ghirlandaio and I'm very leery of starting it back up jumping right back into the endgame), and I have plans to start VC 2 right after that, but this is nice.

It's been fun.

Welp, now I need a PS4. [lol]

Huh, seems it's a new universe. A spiritual successor with similar concepts and alllusions but no story follow up.

That would certainly explain Brynhildr looking very much like a Selvaria-expy on one of those scans.

...Sega seems to be in love with the whole 'alternate timeline' deal nowadays, aren't they? First Sonic Boom, now Valkyria Chronicles. tongue Also, I'm not sure I like the move to a more 'traditional' style of combat; the unique fusion of strategy and third-person shooter of the first three two games is what sold me on the franchise in the first place.

VC1 seems... shinier (almost like Wind Waker's move from Gamecube to Wii U).

TBH, I've been wanting a remaster for the first game for a long time, except as a collection also carrying the second with reworked controls as well as the third dubbed for the first time. Still hoping this will sell well in their absence.

Okay, this is going to be profanity-filled, but I don't see as I have much of a choice.

What the FUCK are you supposed to do about Selvaria in the second Chapter 15 battle? Her vision radius is huge, she dodges anything that isn't directly behind her, she can't be moved or turned safely (because of her giant fuck-off gun), and for the last five turns she puts herself in a goddamn corner. She murders anyone who gets a good shot on her back because there's no cover, AND she can heal to full every single turn.

I've spent the last two hours on this goddamn mission and I'm this close to dropping the game a second time.

It's been fun.

[up]The Edelweiss' smoke rounds are your friend here; she won't intercept anyone running through them as cover. If you're able to get the Edelweiss up there, you can launch smoke rounds right on top of her, preventing her from firing on any reinforcements you bring out. You'll also want to flank her from both sides with defense-boosted units (or the Edelweiss itself), so that each can take turns blasting her from behind after she inevitably spins around to counterattack.

I mean, I spent two hours getting up there in the first place, and my units were way too spread out to do anything - especially given that cover means nothing to her and she has the mobility to just run over and shoot anyone on the top half of the map in the face.

I'm just going to try the smoke-and-sniper strategy. It can't be any more of a waste of time.

It's been fun.

I'm not sure why you're letting it take that long. I managed to get her pinned between the two tanks, and then used machine gun turret to headshot her to death from behind. She really doesn't take well to interception fire.

Well, part of it was that I was pausing between turns, but it took me until turn 14 to get up there in any case, and I lost the Shamrock to the tank destroyer at the north end. I should have just had Welkin commit suicide at that point and started over, but I foolishly assumed that any other unit would be any use against Selvaria.

It's been fun.

On one hand, a killer robot scorpion kind of kills the appeal of the VC title.

On the other hand, I want more VC, even if it's a somewhat unrelated spinoff.

Yeah, the killer scorpion and giant super anime sword stuff isn't really doing much for me to be honest.

Um, did you or me even play the same game. Considering the ultimate weapon if the empire was stealing a GIANT skyscraper sized valkiriya spear to fire giant lasers at everything and shit?

Plus, Valkiryia Chronicles uses an anime art style and had an anime. So I'm not really sure what's wrong with it here. Plus, the war elements were still there, too.

Yeah but I liked all the little normal people with guns and neat art and tanks and crap more than any of that.

Except it was primarily that in the trailer, there were still plenty of those world war esque styled fighting (it looked like a Beach fight, like the Battle of Normandy)

Plus, the tanks in the game reached to unrealistically huge sizes, so it's not like there was any attempt at realism other then War Is Hell.

What were you expecting for Boss fights then?

Expecting realism in an anime game is pointless.

I say just go with it,

A normal sized tank with composite armor or something.

That's further out of place tham giant armored fighting vehicles. We're dealing with a WWII-inspired setting, in which one sided definitely did try to build stupidly huge tank. The Batomys and Marmota are classic exercises in "but could you make it bigger?" in the vein of the Panther, Tiger series, Maus, and Ratte/Monster.

And don't forget that once boss was a normal-sized tank with a shitload of extra armor.

Yeah I guess.

Then I want the boss fight against the giant tank but I want it to end because it spontaneously combusted or sank into the mud or blew it's own turret off trying to fire on an incline.

[up]Well considering this series title describes a tribe of ancient warrior women that are essentially Blue haired Super Saiyans, expecting that level of realism isn't likely.

I don't think you'd get any turret-popping, as neither the Batomys nor the Marmota have turreted main gun.

The Lupus Regnum was explicitly stated to have its range rendered essentially nil by its uparmoring, as the engine could no longer adequately cool and the suspension was laden with several tons of extra armor, hence it being limited to defensive operations in areas where it has easy access to maintenance stations.

The other giant afvs are special purpose vehicles, one of which isn't in the field long before getting trashed, and the other is a giant special-purpose vehicle meant to apply some phlebotinum at anything not wearing red.

The reason I don't like the scorpion tank is because it feels too sci-fi to me.

Any time something has been especially out of place for the time period, it was always related to the Valkyria. And since the name of the game is Valkyria Chronicles, I could forgive that. Laser Beams? Valkyria. Suit of mechanical armour? It's actually normal armour, to protect them from Valkyria power. Tank that shoots laser beams? It's clearly patterned after that Valkyria.

The thing about tanks on legs, is that you need a computer to control it, otherwise they wouldn't make it past the first test when somebody tries to drive it. That's sufficiently more high tech than WWII era.

If it turns out that this is supposed to be a modern era, well, I guess that'll blunt some of my distaste. But it specifically said "This is just as they discover Blue Ragnite", and that sounds more like a prequel to me, so they by all means should not have one of these things.

One final thought, Perhaps it's a Valkyrian tank? Sounds unbelievable for an ancient race of warriors, but then again, so is the fact that they have weapons that can decimate tanks in a single shot.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

At the risk of really hurting people's opinion of the game: that "scorpion" is probably a person. In this version of the setting people transform into tanks.

I am not making this up.
