@Spirit: also try to finish the scout challenge mission early on if possible...you'll get a REALLY nice gun there and then you can use that mission for grinding. First run through that mission will be hell tho, but when you get the gun it'll make subsequent run much easier.

Also I wonder if the 2nd and 3rd game will come to PC or not...

"Penetrate", "Attack Weak Point", "Demolition Boost".

Which one(s) am I supposed to use to kill tanks with infantry?

Like, "Penetrate" says "ignore armor". Does that mean I can shoot at the front of a tank with it and still do damage as if I were shooting a radiator? Or does it just mean that we're apply the vs armor damage even if I was shooting the front of a tank?

^ For Penetrate: yes. It'll do full vs Armor damage, regardless where you shoot it, without defense factoring in (so like shooting Radiators)

The followup:

Are there any orders that make it easier to kill walls or the armored Lupus Regnum? Or do those count as something else entirely?

Just tried chapter 7. I liked it. I had an Oh, Crap! moment almost every turn. More importantly I really appreciate the fact that I had to utilize every class for something rather than defaulting to scout and shocktroopers and, more importantly, I had to actually strategize.

That said though, fuck the fact that tank is only vulnerable for one turn every 4 or so.

Really? Huh.

Most people complain about Selvaria and her gatling of blue death.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

Don't get me wrong. I was calling bull for like 3 turns until I realized that she had a set AI pattern and really couldn't do much against the Edelweiss. After I realized she doesn't go looking for troops and I can just hide out of her line of sight she became almost a non-issue. The Batomys is what's really BS about that mission.

I found the best way to handle that is to let the Batomys destroy the second wall (right after the second camp, I think) without taking out its radiator. There are two walls before the base camp that are very close together, so if you wait until the first of those two to take out the second radiator, Selvaria won't enter the field until very late in the mission.

It's been fun.

[up][up]Ah, so that is the deal with Selvaria? She doesn't actually do anything unless she sees anyone? That explain a lot. I remember finding this mission boringly easy, as Selvaria mostly just spent her turns doing nothing. I was very confused to why so many people complained this mission was too difficult. I guess I just never had a unit within vision range.

Yeah, her intercept fire range is significant, and her attack lasts a long time, so it's very hard to move people on the west side of the map without her taking potshots at them.

It's been fun.

[up]That never came up to me. She never had interception range to men unless I was deliberately approaching to kill her commanders and ace. And even then the ruins gave me enough cover for most part (although only because I summoned people from the last camp). You start of in a valley, with the enemy tank moving west, away from Selvaria. You can kill it before it starts to go East again, if I remember correctly, so you never actually need to get close to her.

Selvaria took out four troopers on her first turn against me—they were going to be exposed either to her line of sight or the Batomys' rear turret. I thought she might be the safer option, not expecting the move and weapon range she had.

^I spent a ton of CP on taking out those turrets as soon as possible with the Edelweiss. They're just too dangerous to have up.

It's been fun.

[up]Same here. Although I also used 3 lancers for that. That was the most lancers I ever used simultaneously on a single mission. After that I just mostly walked around waiting for Batomys to get in position and expose its weak spots. By the time Selvaria showed up, there was no other danger in the map, so I never actually needed to get my troops remotely close to her.

Not the ones you can shoot off, I got rid of those fast too. There's an indestructible one on the back.

Thought:

For a theoretical VC 4, would people enjoy a custom avatar system like in Fire Emblem Awakening?

Is it? From what I recall all six of the turrets are destructable.

Or did you mean the rear cannon?

RedSavant Since: Jan, 2001
#743: Jan 29th 2015 at 12:11:09 PM

Yeah, the one on the back is indestructible, though I don't think it has an intercept fire mode either - it's a cannon, not a machine gun.

Actually, I'm wondering when VC2 and 3 will be ported to Steam. I'm really enjoying 1 so far. Are 2 and 3 set in very different time periods?

It's been fun.

[up]2 is a proper sequel. 3 is more of a Gaiden Game set alongside the first. It also hasn't been localized before.

Besides getting orders, potentials, and becoming elites at level 11, is there anything else that increases when you level a class up?

I seem to recall that, in amounts that vary by character, traits like defense, accuracy, and dodge rate may increase with level.

[up][up][up]What more do you want?

I think most of the progression you'll see in the game will be from equipment: upgrading your weapons is going to do a lot more for your character than training from one level to another (assuming that no potentials are unlocked).

^ After a hard fought mission? Something more than a very minor HP increase and a maybe extra potential that activates too randomly to be reliable or an order I never use.
