I have to politely disagree with Signed and Trash Man. Though the girl is to blame if she did kick the dog (literally), we cannot discount the dog's role in this entirely. What we have been repeatedly saying is that since the dog has been shown to have harmful tendencies, it is not safe to let it live, as it may cause more harm/grief the next time.

Depending on the risk in question, you do not merely ignore it and hope it will fix itself - such thinking is not a good idea.

We're looking at a real winner of a policy here, folks.

Jeez...when children are involved so much credence to their word is given. Where she "may" have kicked the dog it sounds she's trying to cover her ass that she pissed off said animal.

That's pretty much what my theory is atm....or she might be telling the truth or the dog is nuts...but I highly doubt it. Atleast she got her punishment if she really did kick it.

It's a euphemism. The deliberate intent is that the dog is reduced, in the minds of readers, from a dead animal to a discarded object.

...great, now I sound like P.E.T.A., and the hell with them. But yeah; if she hurt the dog first, she's not entirely an innocent little victim here. And bear in mind that I wouldn't normally say that about any nine-year-old who wasn't a real live Enfant Terrible.
