Again we're going to get DGS either way ( i hear there is a fan translation in the works already. Capcom we want to give you money. we can't give it to you if you don't give us things to buy.
im not sure how i'd go about playing a fan translation on a console that is region locked and thus wont play j-region games. or how i'd go about applying the translation to the cart.
emulation seems the only way tbh. unless there are advances in 3ds piracy im not aware of.
Like they said I'm not gonna buy a game they're not selling. I just don't get why Capcom has stopped giving a damn about the spinoffs, even when they're guaranteed to sell. Why did Nintendo have to step in to get a fricking crossover localized?
The good news in this I suppose is that whether or not a game gets localized had nothing to do with its setting. A game that is mostly set in an English speaking country is getting shafted, but the one on fantasy Tibet gets localized
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I'm not sure it's accurate to say Nintendo "stepped in" to localize PLvsAA. Keep in mind they published the entire mainline Layton series for the west.
I'm willing to bet some complicated behind the scenes localization/publishing stuff was the main reason PLvsAA released overseas so much later than Japan. There were three different companies involved in the localization of the games that preceded it, after all.
Depending on how well Investigations sold I would assume they don't think the spinoffs have a viable audience outside of Japan.
Investigations failing meant it was understandable from Capcom's perspective to not touch the second game, but every single spinoff, regardless of the story/setting or what other elements are appealing?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.If people don't ask for the spinoffs it's only natural to assume that there is no market for them based on previous with spinoffs.
First: HOLY CRAP that guard has an assault rifle. (2nd Column 2nd row)
Second: i think the water mirror is that pool in the middle of the courtroom.(2nd column first row...or 1st column 3rd row) If it is then it's really gonna shoot the whole "this trip is gonna be one case" down hard

Yup, the Water Mirror is the thing in the center.
Apparently the premise of this presented case is that Phoenix goes to this foreign country for an as-of-yet undisclosed reason, when some sort of incident happens involving the tour guide, Bokto. He goes to watch his trial, only to find out that, in this country, there are no defense lawyers, having been rendered obsolete by an Oracle of Spirits (which I assume is the lady over there) and the Water Mirror.
Phoenix, to no surprise, is not particularly pleased with this, and steps in on the ages-unused defense bench to give Bokto a fair defense.
Well, from what I've seen, localizing DGS is pretty difficult, because Meiji-era Japan and Ryuunosuke and Susato's nationalities are actually plot points (so it's less of 'it takes place in London' and more 'it's a period piece'). In fact, Case 2 takes place in a Russian steamboat from Japan to England, with a stop at Hong Kong.
That said, they could have found some way around it. They could have given Phoenix Japanese ancestry, or find some way to differentiate them speaking Japanese and English (like using Japanese quotation marks for when they're speaking in Japanese), or something.
Besides, this game actually did better than PLvsAA sales-wise in Japan in the first week (though beyond that, I dunno), the 3DS isn't going anywhere anytime soon, the team has been working on DLC for the past few weeks (and as far as I know haven't been disbanded yet)...so I dunno what's going on.

The only way i can see the water mirror being used in America is if it turns into something metaphorical.....like he uses his imagination to visualize the testimony..... and it takes the form of the water mirror....
Yes it's a flimsy argument....(and it sounds like either resonance thought or the mood matrix again)

Or maybe after he resolves some sort of major incident, the country's government/court rewards him with a portable Water Mirror, or something.
I dunno.
That would be my 2nd guess
Another theory...
We could have a plot thread that spans both countries. This way we get Apollo and Athena working together in Japanifornia, and Phoenix and Maya working in the other country.
This way would mean the water mirror mechanic isn't as prevalent but since it seems similar to the mood matrix, the gameplay probably wouldn't shift much.
This way time in the spotlight gets distributed a bit more evenly than in dual destinies.

Something I noticed about the Water Mirror system.
It looks aesthetically similar to Mood Matrix, but it's kinda different somewhat. Noticeably, there are three words that pop up along with the image conjured by the testimony "The defendant swung the weapon upon the victim's head":
- Song of ritual
- The young boy's voice
- Smell of incense
All these three things are sensations, probably experienced by the witness as the point in the testimony occurs. So what I'm guessing is that the Water Mirror paints a more detailed account of the witnesses' testimony, bringing in minutiae that they probably wouldn't consciously notice or mention.

Maybe those words contradict something or maybe there are more we would see if it was in motion. maybe we have to pick one and present evidence to prove or disprove the arguments of the "prosecution".

If AA 6 takes place outside of Japan, then I don't think they have to worry about the Japanifornia issue. Just leave the country the same, either way it's foreign.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I wonder if they're going to do what they did with AAI where the Japanese version has their names in Kanji, but the American version translates the same characters into Tibetan style names.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I just want Trucy to do something in this game that doesn't involve panties.
Yet another Kangaroo Court worse than the one we usually play in. Nice to have a woman prosecutor though.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. How many have we had total so far? Just Lana, Franziska, and Darklaw?
This court doesn't seem to have prosecutors, either. Just the Oracle and spirit water that tells people what happened.
I guess the Oracle takes the antagonist role in this court, then.
Eh. As long as her primary job is to oppose the defense in court that's prosecutor enough. Technically Darklaw isn't a prosecutor either.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Oh right, I forgot, she's an inquisitor.
...I wonder why Eve chose such an obviously-villain name like Darklaw. Like, an in-universe reason.
