I always wondered what Vasquez's big plan to end the series was.

I, personally, thought Zim would eventually realize how horrible the Allmighty Tallest were, and would destroy and rule the irken empire with the help of Dib, Gaz, and, of course, GIR. But, yeah, a tad too happy for Vasquez's tastes...

I heard it involved Zim dying somehow. Not sure what would be in there. A Bittersweet Ending at best.

My understanding is that the plan was for them to spend a season with Dib chasing Zim through space and finally invading the Irken homeworld himself, with a wrap-up movie called "Invader Dib."

I've heard of that. But what was the resolution of it all, I'm wondering?

I imagine it ends in hilarious tragedy. There is no way I can bring myself to believe that Vasquez would end it on a happy note. Probably Zim and Dib are caught in separate Hell universes. In Zim's, the universe is already conquered. Dib is caught in our world, with no aliens or otherworldly things at all.

I think Vasquez released a picture of Zim lying in a pool of blood with Dib behind him holding a smoking gun.

If I remember correctly, Dib invades the Irk homeworld, defeats the tallest by destroying their snack food storage and escapes, only to run out of fuel, crashland on Jupiter and get stranded there. I can't remember what happens to Zim

But I heard somewhere else that Zim eventually learns to accept humanity, having lived among them for so long he understands their shortcomings as as that of his own. He would then become an unofficial ambassador to Earth, advocating its usefulness as a sentient planet.

The ending I stated and the two above all have some Word of God behind them. However, Invader Dib is the most likely scenario, seeing the direction the series was going.

The Nicktoons comic by Jhonen Vasquez almost seemed like a "quickee" finale.

With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptation

The Nicktoons comic by Jhonen Vasquez almost seemed like a "quickee" finale.

It was, so the official ending is that Zim conquers Earth, gets bored with it, makes friends with Dib and the two of them ride space bunnies and drink space sodas.

All in the course of a few minutes.

It's the most suitable finale he could have whipped up, really.

Jhonen once did say (link for the properly skeptical) that Zim would reform. Or to quote him directly:

"Ultimately, my idea was to take his sights off world domination, as ZIM begins to understand that there is a beauty in human life, an understanding that sets him on his path to becoming a public legal defender. I was very inspired by Ben Affleck's powerful courtroom scenes in Daredevil, and I wanted to move people to tears like those scenes moved me. But the show was canceled before any of that, thus leaving our audience of ten unfulfilled."

For the sarcasm-impaired, the movie he's referring to was actually released after the show's cancellation in 2002, so no there is absolutely no chance in hell he was being anything but tongue-in-cheek. But that rumor did at least have some basis in fact. Just not sanity.

My understanding of the planned ending lines up with Shadowtext's, minus the implied Diabolus ex Machina. The Jupiter thing is pure fanon.

Speaking of which, those of you who know what you're talking about, how accurate is the Zim article we've got here? A lot of the statements it makes sound kind of fishy to me, like common fan assumptions that have just never been challenged — Jhonen being a "thorn in their side," for example, I never really had the impression he was actually all that difficult, they were the ones jerking him around. But it makes him sound cooler and more badass that he's sticking it to The Man...

It would defenatly be a dark ending to a dark show..... zim would conquer earth but before that

1.The events of a Season one finale it is called "for far longer" in which zim accidentily starts an intersteller war on meekrob. Then after that he would conquer earth in ashes of dibs conquest of irk and then thentongue............Note:The troper's brain has exploded in the imortal words of gir just like this KABLAM
