Because Set knows English and told them.

If that guard used to be an adventurer like me, we have to leave this town right the hell now.Yeah, that would work. Come to think of it 'because Nyarly found it amusing' is probably a fairly good fall-back explaination in the Mythos-verse in general.
Nyarlathotep is basically that forum mod who likes to create sock puppet accounts just for trolling.
If that guard used to be an adventurer like me, we have to leave this town right the hell now. That is actually a pretty good assessment. Also, given that I know of at least one case of someone using their sockpuppets to have a conversation/argument with themselves, the aluded to idea that the Deltas suspect David of being a mask suddenly makes a lot more sense, even as a reader I know that it's completely wrong.
Just a quick question of opinions.
What are the chances that DG will actually realize/admit that they are/were wrong about David, Nancy and Maybe Shubby?
I think they would be more surprised by that than by the possibility of relations between Dave and Nancy.
I think they eventually will let David off the hook, but it will take at least one more encounter.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."I'd like to say hey to everyone, and share something I did.
I did try to go back and make sure that no one else had done the same, so if this is old news, I'd like to apologize up front.
I translated what Nancy's first words were to David here.
YES, YOU’LL DO VERY NICELY. YOU KNOW HOW LONG ITS TAKEN TO FIND SOMEONE LIKE YOU? YOUR KIND JUST DON’T JOIN CULTS. GUESS I JUST LUCKED OUT, HUH?
I did this by using her name mentioned in this comic. I noticed the characters were set in the same pattern as the word NANCY itself. From there, I made some intelligent guesses as to what the other words were, and all the letters lined up nicely. I don't think Cthulu-Speak has punctuation, so I put some in myself.]]
Personally? Its not groundbreaking stuff, but it certainly shows that while Mr. Bartlett might have become a weirdness magnet, there wasn't anything like destiny or fate that brought him to Nancy. Hard to tell if he got lucky too, or just the opposite.
Hope the illustrious author doesn't mind me sharing the translation. I made a lexicon for myself, and I intend to search through the story for more Cthulu-speak. I can share it if there is any interest, but I'd have to email it, and it can be derived from the translation above too.

Huh. That's a neat bit of cryptanalysis.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableVery cool.
If there's a work I'd like to see come out of hiatus, it's this...I really enjoy it.
I wish this thread would be locked.
So that people couldn't necro it and suddenly make me go OH MAN IT UPDATED OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY
(Just kidding, that's actually really cool)
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.Very cool, man. Don't think I'd ever figure that out on my own.
Have to say I had the same initial reaction really...
I know this may be a stupid, and completely futile question, but is there any ETA on when this comic will be revived? Is it just officially dead now? Or is it still returning ~eventually~?

Through the eyes I have known you. It's good to see at least that this comic hasn't been forgotten.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Yeah, Sorry, I knew I was going to be raising this post from the dead, but I figured I'd share what I could.
I looked through the remaining story an the only real discernable possible text is on the Shuggoth's former home of pottery. I stared at both the version on the chapter start and the one in the comic itself, but I couldn't, for the life of me, match any of the symbols properly.
Its either a different language or I am just not very good at visual distinction. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Author went as far as to create an older version of the same language. Or maybe it is written differently than it is said.
Regardless, that's all I got. Sorry for waking up the thread. Personally, I can't wait to see the second book of Ten-Ghost come out.
I love this comic, but I would rather have gotten as far as we have and gotten an eternal hiatus, than never have gotten any of it to begin.
Well, if there's a thing that it's worth reviving the thread for that's not a new update, neat cryptanalysis is probably it.
Shinigan (Naruto fanfic)Quite so. And it fits with the rest of Nancy's personality.
But if the author is about, we would greatly appreciate more.
- rolls around*
I recently started doing five hundred dollar plus fine art comissions for these freakin' maps of places in Florida, BUT, this means I could probably get a desk that's similar enough to my old one that I can start agaaaain
Also. YES. That is totes what Nancy said.
It is because Nancy has plans.
Those plans entail certain things. Note that Xexanoth grants wishes. Could be that it needed to find David to fulfill a wish it had in queue previously.
If that guard used to be an adventurer like me, we have to leave this town right the hell now.Edit: Hmm, granting wishes is always a tricky business. I wonder on what sort of scale such wishes would be?
Ahh, I'm torn between the desire to ask questions and the urge to stay clear of possible spoilers.

HURRAH, it isn't dead yet!
500-dollar commissions are a pretty good excuse though. :)
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableGlad to see theres a chance we might continue the story. I was very disappointed when I realized the comic wouldn't update
He who fights bronies should see to itthat he himself does not become a brony. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, Pinkie Pie gazes AlsoWoo! I didn't get the translation wrong. Since I won't be necroing the thread again, I will go ahead and add the translations of the words on each book's table of contents:
Book one, top of page: THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY THIS IS ONLY A TEST IF IT WERE AN A-
Book one, bottom of page: NANCY IS COMING DAVID IS A FROOB THERE IS A SHOGGOTH ON THE WAY GET R-
Book two, top of page: t-HERES SOMETHING COMING IN THE SKY DO YOU KNOW WHA- IT COULD BE BECAUSE I KNOW WHY IS IT FLYING SO HIGH A
book two, bottom of page: WHO IS THE GIRL WHO IS FLYING SO HIGH IN THE SKY WHY DID SHE COME DOWN KNOWING THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHY I-
A Froob? XD
Also, "flying..." -mind goes first to the Polyps, then to the Byakhee and Nightgaunts-
I have to say, I missed a lot when I read this before. Being well versed in Lovecraft makes it a lot more entertaining (Which isn't to say that it wasn't entertaining before.)
Fire, air, water, earth...legend has it that when these four elements are gathered, they will form the fifth element...boron.My writing process for all 63 chapters: read all 63 of Lovecraft's short stories while listening to the Thickets and ST Joshi talking and sketch horribly before sitting down to write anything, then try to vomit it all out in five minutes.
Which speaks a lot for the terrible art in the everything, holy wow.
Once I get started with the chapters again I'll be taking my time.
If that guard used to be an adventurer like me, we have to leave this town right the hell now.
Okay, given how brain breaking time travel and multi-dimensional stuff is, I'd say that it's very at home with this sort of stuff, although it should be noted that it tends to just make people's heads hurt rather then making them go mad from the revelation. It all sounds very interesting and I look forward to seeing what's going to happen.
Regarding David's name, I already knew what it meant ('Andrew' just means 'man' by the way). The idea that the Egyptians wrote a translation of his name on the tablet is interesting but is unfortuately the cause of a bit of fridge logic, namely how the blinking hell would the ancient Egyptians have known what his name meant? 'David' is from Hebrew, 'Andrew' is an anglicised form of Greek 'Ανδρεας (Andreas)', and 'Bartlett' is a diminutive of a name which is itself an anglicised form of Greek 'Bartholomaios', which itself is derived from an Aramaic name. In short, what his name means isn't exactly obvious. I don't wish to be critical but it's one of those things where if I didn't point it out it'd bug me for ages.
