[up][up][up]I'm the opposite in that while I like her, I feel her track record is kind of poor.

Any particular reason for why you dislike her?

[up][up]It has similarities but the cutting power is less and needs to attack in clumps making fighting multiple enemies harder for her.

Because I don't feel like there's much to her besides being a sex appeal character and Gin's friend/love interest/whatever. I don't care much about sex appeal and just being a supporting figure for someone else's character arc is, by default at least, a minus for me.

Her track record is decidedly okay for her weight class. It's not amazing, but 'the most useless female character in the series' is exaggerating the issue to a very strangely extreme degree.

Like, Hinamori's track record is strictly worse, just for starters. And then we have people like the noob shinigami, or Ukitake's third seats, or Nemu. Really, come to think of it, the captains and former captains are pretty much the only good guy women with better tracks records than Rangiku.

[up][up] understandable. Though I think she's fairy well written for a supporting character but that's just me.

I like her, but don't like her use as a sex appeal character. Sexy jokes are fine (like the boob bucket) but I feel she'd be a much better character if she wasn't used for the fanservice.

"belt person" does make a lot of sense, given Kubo's love of fashion.

Not that she's been around lately but in her last few appearances I don't recall her being used for fanservice.

The last istance of fanservice for Kubo was either Orihime's cleavage or Bambietta sucking on Gyselle....Oh yeah, that was good, pretty good....

I like her personality. I find her funny and like her teasing and fun-lovingness.

As for fanservice... I won't lie here. I find her gorgeous.

[up][up][up] she's used for fanservice covers and that bath scene with Orihime was most likely just done with the bath for extra fanservice. Because otherwise a conversation between two women about another woman would be too boring for the target audience i guess. But the whole open blouse design in both her kimono and schoolgirl outfit (and the schoolgirl outfit being a schoolgirl outfit on an adult lady) must be for fanservice as well.

[up][up] you mean where she was biting chunks of bambi and cracked her head open while beating her

@saiga @saint deltora do you guys think Rangiku's shikai is useful enough or should she have gotten something stronger?

I think it's enough. The way it works is more interesting than Senbonzakura at the very least.

People conflate the two but Senbonzakura is just breaking up the sword into slashy fragments whereas Haineko is a bit more complicated. The blade turns into ash, but it doesn't just float around and cut shit as Senbonzakura does. Rangiku describes it as the movements of her hands (while holding the hilt) that cut things the ash lands on. As if she were holding an invisible blade.

True. But it's main weakness is that she has to clump a lot of ash together to inflict damage. Not ideal for fighting fast enemies or multiple opponents in wide spaces

It's an interesting power, especially since depending on the battlefield and environment you can hide several hundreds of ways you can kill the enemy easily and they would never know what hit them. And the fact it could be used in pretty smart ways.

Pity this manga doesn't like combat tactics, or it's women.

@Saiga, I didn't say she's never been used for fanservice, just that I don't think that's been her role in her most recent (non zombie) appearances.

[up][up] It would be interesting if it was shown there were more aspects to it. Like controlling igneous material or the ash being poisonous.

I don't see Rangiku's description being much difference (in practice) to Byakuya's. Byakuya can control Senbonzakura with either his hands or his mind. Rangiku can only control it with her hands. My assumption about Rangiku is that eventually she may be able to do it with her mind. For now, the Byakuya's mental control creates the image of petals floating on the breeze while Rangiku's hand-control creates the image of a cat clawing its enemy.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
