During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

@nrjxll: I agree. I'm not exactly a big fan of that rule either—there are very good works out there that aren't published for money. It's really only when fanfics and creepypastas or Reddit stories are called into question when I raise my eyebrow a bit.
I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Abstaining on the No Unpublished Works Month, though I must suggest to Vampire that proposing Prayer Warriors is a terrible idea.
As for this Barbie candidate? Go for it, I'm curious.
Yeah, I am also opposed to the suggestion. I will agree that there's a limit to the taste of a fanfic, which is why I also agree that Vampire going after that one fanfic would be a bad idea.
Guys.
Vampire was telling us someone put Jupiter under the Complete Monster trope on Prayer Warriors' YMMV page. He wasn't trying to propose anyone. He was going to look into the person who put up the entry (e.g. "Cut. PM the troper.").
A simple history search on the YMMV shows someone did indeed add an unapproved entry.
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh. That really should've been phrased better if that was the intent.
In regards to the "No Unpublished Works", no. As someone who has proposed a couple fanfic C Ms, I can't support that.
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh. Also, regardless of that particular case I feel like we've been having a lot of lame creepypastas come up lately.
Even only for a month for a bit of breathing room?
I just wanted to see how the hell someone managed to out do the main characters in that thing.
Whenever a Complete Monster is cut, I get curious and want to know why.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.Friends don't let friends read Prayer Warriors, dude. Save your brain cells.
If anything, I feel that we should at least enforce the grimdark rule for fan works.

To be entirely honest, I think another moratorium would do wonders. That's my personal opinion, anyways.
I would post an EP that's more in-line with the majority's taste (if only to get the thread back on track), but the 2-week rule doesn't end until tomorrow. Unless you guys don't mind.

A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.Go for it.
I got a dude in mind from East of West, but.....I am not sure if his character arc is over yet.
Does having a remnant of yourself sharing someone else's body count as having a character arc over?
Also, I have already read Prayer Warriors. Regret it a lot.

I'll certainly vote for villains from works that haven't been officially published but I'll add that a taste factor is appreciated—as I'm sure the work you're thinking of is.

Well in light of the latest fan works backlash, I apologise retroactively if I annoyed anyone with the Marvel fanfic duo I proposed a while back.
No that was a breath of fresh air, actually.
Also, may I dibs the discussion on Adam Taurus, or is that too late to dibs?
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name. The Lightster is doing RWBY.
I'm willing to accept help in writing the writeup if he counts after.
Say The Lightsnake, are you still playing AC Origins or have you already finished it?

Okay mate.
I would like to dibs Ava's Demon, as I anticipate that there will be a complete monster from there eventually.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.Still playing. Gonna be a bit on Origins
Is that a "no" vote or an "abstain?"
