Ironically despite giving her a more modest costume they actually had her sleep with Mister Terrific to get information out of him.

I haven't read the series, so I didn't know that. It's unfortunate to hear.

I only know it second hand from the most recent The Last Angry Geek review.

They had her sleep with Mister Terrific. One of my favorite JSA characters.

That Frankenstein rant at the beginning was really insufferable... and still wrong.

Groovy.

[up]How so? Frankenstein's a surname. According to the movie, the Doctor considered the monster his son, and therefore he shares that surname. Makes sense to me.

I mean, it didn't come out that way in the books, but whose to say the Universal films aren't valid?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

I disagree. I think it makes perfect sense, especially considering how Frankenstein is a surname and the monster could be considered the doctor's son.

The monster isn't given a name at all in the book, but that's largely due to Dr. Frankenstein being vindictive and petty.

Using 'Frankenstein' to refer to the monster is acceptable both because of the surname argument, and because you can read that as a abbreviation of 'Frankenstein's Monster'.

Dr Frankenstein had called the monster Adam. IIRC, It was before he went insane with the realization that he'd created life, but he still technically gave it a name.

Which would make the monster Adam Frankenstein. Frankenstein is his name, just his surname.

But the whole point of the book is that the monster is irrevocably cut off from humanity. It took forever for Frankenstein to even acknowledge the monster's existence, let alone that it was his. Taking his name seems unjust.

So is the Bride of Frankenstein named Eve then?

[up]The Bride was never finished in the book. Frankenstein almost built her, but a sudden attack of paranoia lead him to destroy her, and the monster swore vengeance.

What reason would the creature have for taking the name Frankenstein? He's not human, so it's not like he follows human naming conventions, and even if he did, Frankenstein rejected him as a son, and the creature in turn rejected Frankenstein as a father.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.

Adam is a human name, so he is following human naming conventions; moreover, if your family rejects you you don't automatically lose your last name.

I suppose if The Monster is not called Frankenstein then he is following non-human naming conventions? And I don't recall The Monster ever accepting the name "Adam" in the book, let alone "Frankenstein".

It's more or less just been absorbed by the public consciousness that the Monster is also named Frankenstein because it sounds cool, there isn't anything else to call it, and Frankenstein's Monster just doesn't roll off the tongue.

If I recall, the DC comics version of the monster in Frank Morrison`s Seven Soldiers minis took the doctor`s last name.

...I could have sworn the review was about The Incredible Hulk. I haven't seen the vid yet, as I haven't had time, and my internet connection is crap, but I'll get around to it.

...Why is Linkara talking about Frankenstein in a review of the first Hulk comic anyway?

Because Stan Lee took inspiration from Jekyll and Hyde along with Frankenstein.
