Re: Favourite Castlevania music.
Tough choice, tough choice. Lots of tunes I do enjoy. I'm going to divide my choices between level tunes and boss music. Some general tunes that stand out to me are...
- Battle of the Holy (The Castlevania Adventure) - Even with only 4 bits to work with, Konami knew how to make a kickass tune.
- Dead Beat (Castlevania III) - Just something I like about the steady base beats, while still managing to convey a sense of mucking through a swamp.
- Bloody Tears (Castlevania II) A classic. Castlevania 2 was one of my earliest video game memories, and this tune really rocked out.
- Lost Painting (Symphony of the Night) - I like the calm nature of the tune. It's haunting, but not in a creepy way. Very calm and introspective.
- The Discoloured Wall (Bloodlines) - I love many of the tunes from Bloodlines. The Sinking Old Sanctuary, Iron Blue Intention, and Calling from Heaven, but I decided to go with this tune. Very discordant and unsettling.
- Clock Tower (Aria of Sorrow) - The chimes at the beginning really set the tune, until it turns to a more rockin' beat.
- Ebony Wings - Really gets you pumped for one of the later stages in the game.
Boss tunes? Man, Castlevania knows how to pump you up for those.
- Creatures In the Depth (Chronicles)
- Piercing Silence (Portrait of Ruin)
- Portal to Dark Bravery (Dawn of Sorrow)
- Death Ballad (SOTN)

My ideal Castlevania game? I admit some of my favourites are the ones where you spend time outside the castle. Simon's Quest, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, and Bloodlines. I like it when you spend some time in differing locales. Given what I played, my best answer would be similar to above: Portrait of Ruin with no rehashed environments, and a bigger castle. Ecclesia I did like going to many locations, but the ability to quickly select where you go did feel a bit off. At the same time, I know the wandering of Simon's Quest would quickly get grating.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.New Castlevania game... for iOS.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!I smell gacha format.
woo
God, I hope Bloodstained is good.
As much as I don't have iOS, I'll try to be fair on this:
I'm actually glad they're returning to the classic timeline.
better than having a pachinko machine Cough DMC Cough MGS 3 Cough Castlevania Cough Cough
you make me want to do terrible things to you~That Bloodstained game/CVIII homage looks better and no one realized it existed until two weeks before release.
I didn't know it is that close to release.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (like Castlevania Circle of the Moon? Heh) has a May 24, 2018 release date, 8 bit graphics, and it is apparently a prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Konami Reports Most Profitable Year Yet at Over $2 Billion, Mum on ‘Metal Gear Survive’
Pachinko pays as much as Westerners hate it. It’s like arcade companies switching to slot machines and video gambling when the former industry went belly up in the US.
Why do I feel those reports are lying?
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...Completely random trivia time!
The list of Castlevania games in which you fight Death early on, and then he leaves, and then you have to fight him again later...
...and the list of games in which Death kills himself with his scythe or voluntarily gives up his soul...
...are exactly the same. (Rondo of Blood, Portrait of Ruin, and the Arcade)

So...
...with Simon and Richter set to appear in Smash Bros Ultimate, what do you guys think are the chances of another Castlevania revival?
It would be pretty hard with the old universe, what with the events of Aria and Dawn, and Lords of Shadow apparently has both fans and detractors, but maybe there's something they can do.
One Strip! One Strip! Not sure if Komani's is a state to make a revival (or at least a good one), but I can see a Compilation Re-release of some kind happening.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I don't know man.
Our boy Mega-Man is getting ready for his comeback after an appearance in Smash, and the same thing happened to Pit years earlier.
We might see some new Belmont adventures somehow I figure.
One Strip! One Strip!Being in Smash doesn't really lead to a franchise revival. Mega Man 11 is probably better attributed to the successes of the Legacy Collection and Kid Icarus was only revived because Papa Sakurai adopted it. At best, Fire Emblem was localized due to Smash (and even then, it still ended up on supreme life support well after that).

This song needs more love.Fair enough.
One Strip! One Strip!Clearly this means they'll adopt the Fire Emblem approach and introduce playable female characters you rescue after meeting certain semi-secret conditions and you later unlock an affection mechanic between visual novel segments after stages.
So I just spent the last few days binging on Gamer Thumb Tv's Castlevania timeline videos on youtube.
I didn't know the timeline on Legends was kinda funky. I still think Iga made a mistake by cutting it (though since he was the one who did Order of Ecclesia, I guess it can be said he's not particularly sexist (if only he'd done a less half assed job of explaining himself).
Anyway, The Lords of Shadow Timeline is certainly fascinating as well. I can get it's appeal, but also I can get why others aren't particularly enamoured by it as well.
My point is, while the idea of another Continuity Reboot is something that's still not too likely, I have to ask:
If Konami were willing to do so, what would you guys want in it?
Only stuff from the original universe? Some stuff from Lords of Shadow? Sonia to be re-inserted back into continuity somehow? I'd like to hear your thoughts?
Maybe go crazy and do a big dimensional crossover game where Gabriel meets Soma, and they team up with both versions of their Alucard, beat up a Bigger Bad, and accidentally created a third continuity so the series can both start fresh and celebrate what came before.
Or maybe my ass should be locked up for such a nutty notion.
...I'd play it though, and despite visiting this thread and becoming quite familiar with Castlevania history, I haven't really played any of the games.
One Strip! One Strip!Sonia really does need to be reinstalled. Her exclusion was sexist, regardless of Iga adding new female protagonists with his specific approval later. If the idea of her mothering Trevor with Alucard was an issue, they could very well have ignored it; it was only hinted at after all.
Personally I love the idea of splitting the difference! What if Sonia did have a child with Alucard, but it wasn't Trevor. Suddenly the Belmont clan has a shadow bloodline that's "Tainted" by Dracula. Could be great way to pull an Anti-Hero, Anti-Villain, or other plot twist down the line.
Personally I vastly prefer the OG Castlevania timeline/series because it has a very unique flavor to it. I've said before I refer to Castlevania as "Gothic Horror meets Dragon Ball Z" because the macabre monsters and scary atmosphere are punctuated by over-the-top special moves and Calling Your Attacks. I LOVE that dissonance so much and would want a new game to lean into it a lot.
Lords of Shadow on the other hand is just straight-up Gothic Horror. Obviously that's a fine genre for a game, but it's that mix of unashamed arcadiness that made Castlevania unique.

Fair enough.
I do like LOS' design for the Vampire Killer though (and clearly so did Sakurai considering that's the version that Ultimate Simon and Richter are carrying).
One Strip! One Strip!Considering I've never seen an actual source to Iga's claim, and he had virtually no problem having women warrior's in his games as early as Symphony. I'm gonna hazard a guess and say the whole "Iga was being sexist" thing is a load of crock.
Also the idea of Alucard having a kid with Sonia, much less Alucard having a kid at all is just...why? Alucard was pretty damned celibate in all of his other appearances, I doubt the dude has much of a sex drive at all, so the idea of him settling down with anyone, let alone a Belmont, is a pretty big leap.
Favorite Castlevania Music?
I lpve the music for this series. Such a shame the show didn't use any of it, my only real gripe with it too. Hopefully S2 learned its lesson.
EDIT: Into the Dark was the last one. And yeah part of it does sound like Hugh's battle theme in Pokemon BW 2.
