The more I think about the movie, now, the more I hate it.

The comics really do a better job of setting Ramona and Scott up as a couple, and, really, just characterization in general. Maybe making a movie before the series had wrapped was a bad idea.

Bryan Lee helped throughout production, he and Edgar Wright are good friends and were working out the movie before Volume 3 was even started. The movie was most likely finished in the middle of writing volume 6, so O'Malley probably just cleaned things up afterwards.

It is kinda hard to believe the relationship (since the books took place over a years and a month or two (and hours of character development) and the movies is a month tops (and only two hours of development sprinkled in between all the other awesome stuff)).

I remember hearing that it's possible that the entire story is told from Scott's mind (as in this is how he percieves it) which is why pretty much everyone else gets so little screen time.

Fun experiment: Try to sync the film up to "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" by The Smashing Pumpkins. It has moments of greatness. Start the album the exact second the Universal logo appears.

^^ Characterization isn't bad in the movie. It's just much, much less sympathetic. I did like the movie, but I like the books much more.

It's the opposite for me, I found the books flat and underwhelming. Especially the Character Design.

I liked the movie. it was fun watching my parents be confused through out the whole thing. I think the second shot at the final boss was the C Mo A.

this movie feels more like a video game they way the narrative was designed, even without all the culture references.

The awkward humor was great. Very clever, good timing.

The fights were visually stunning, but many of them stopped the movie dead in its tracks. To be fair, I don't know how they could have avoided that.

Not every adaptation clicks. It certainly hurt more thinking about how much potential this had.

So...does this movie mean that a live action adaptation of No More Heroes would most likely bomb as well?

[up]Seeing as that would be a movie based on a videogame, it might have good reason to bomb...

But so much more happens in the books. It's easier to get emotionally caught up, even if depressed Scott is very annoying.

I liked them both. My main "losses" from books to movie, are Envy's arc, the ROBOTS, and Gideon's motivations.

[up]The Evny story arc is the only thing I'd have liked included (other than more Kim Pine screen time).

I think the amp vs amp fight was better than the series of robots.

And I think the movie handled the first two volumes better than the books did.

Also, Ramona and Roxie's fight was better than all the fights in volume 4.

I think they should've split the story in half and made two movies, the second could've been called Scott Pilgrim vs. the Universe.

From the books I would have wanted the Envy story, the flashbacks, and bit more of the day-to-day stuff with Ramona so it's not just one date, sleep over, band stuff/fight/fight/band stuff/fight.

EDIT: I also liked the amp vs amp better than the robots.

I also liked the amp v. amp fight better than the robots, but I missed Knives' dad (not that they had any time to cram in another fight).

[up]The entire reason Scott and Nega-Scott don't fight is because Edgar Wright thought that it'd have been too much.

They could've easily made the movie 30 minutes or so longer, I think it's shorter than Transformers 2, The Dark Knight, and Avatar. And I'd personally rather sit through 30 more minutes of Scott Pilgrim that any those movies...

I think Scott Pilgrim vs the World should have advertised itself as more of a music band oreientated movie. As a comantic beat em' up in didn't make much sense but the music band angle helps it stand out a bit more.

Watching Scott Pilgrim I was totally thining that Rock Band or Craptivision would so try get a deal with this movie because it has great music and the battle of the band etc.

TBH people wanted to see Michael Cera get beat up. I was loving watching Lucas Lee unapologetically punching Scott or rather he psyched him. I mean it felt like Scott took a slight beating and then pulled a quick and easy win for the most part other than Gideon. The trailer made it look like Scott gets beaten up by Mathew Pattel and all the rest first. Recovers, trains and then whopps their asses.

I think some lesbien scenes in the movie wouldn't hurt either. I think the male audiences would line up like suckers if any of the female case decided to have a kiss-off together.

And though the movie had loads of video game references, it dodn't really have any memes. Where is the over 9000! The Street Fighter cartoon memes? Well excuse me princess?

I mean I was watching the awesome GTA 4 mario bros movie and they placed in a couple of memes like "it's a trap!" and it was pretty awesome. I know Scott Pilgrim ain't really into internet culture and what not but I though it was about the young generation and video games so why the hell not.

Also the movie could have done with some more cross cultural jokes. Like I remember Scott telling Knives that he thought dating outside Knives's race wasn't allowed. They coulda played with that a lil more.

The movie featured many quirks such as overhead bars and what not but they didin't have that wink at the camera humour where the characters themselves are aware. It would be nice if when scott had the choice of options thing that it hovered in between, awkward, moment, Scott gets frustrated and blows upwards and so the options tick hits the pee option.

Also the coins thing needed more use. I mean you set up an effect but they don't utilise it fully. Why isn't Scott beating people up for coins as people have been often joking.

The movie had all video game references but perhaps a few gins wouldn't hurt. They had hammers, swords and other crazy stuff so why not a fantastic gun. Lets face it, Westerners love them some big guns. Or just some cool guns. It doesn't have to shoot bullets and projectiles but I dunno nerf balls or summin.

1. Maybe.

2. Who cares about Rock Band? They got their promotion from Scott wearing one of their shirts, fuck 'em.

3. Michael Cera hate is stupid.

4. Unnecessary.

5. That would have most likely dated it. The great thing about the videogame references is that you don't really need to be a videogame historian to follow the movie, so long as you're intelligent enough to realize it's a videgame world. There were probably people that thought the exploding in to coins thing was supposed to be Mario, rather than River City Ransom. Not everybody follows mems, but pretty much everyone knos what Mario is.

6. same as 5.

7. What is this "Mind of Mencia?"

8. What?

9. Cause he has no qualms with "background Guy #4," why would he fight the guy? The only non-bosses he felt he had to fight were Gideon's henchmen.

10. Why? Nobody wants to see a gun fight in a kung-fu movie.

1. I liek music

2. A comic inspired by videogames inspires more videogames. The cycle continues.

3. Michael Cera is disliked by many, you cannot ignore it. People hate him because he acts pretty much as the same stunted girly individual in Superbad, Juno, Year One etc.

4. Gigantic massive EXPLOSIONS aren't neccessary. Girls trying to look sexy is uneccessary. But it's what the people like. Again it's not something you stuff the movie with but just a lil enticer.

5. Films are doomed to get dated in some respects. I mean you can tell Shawshank is old because they're not wearing orange uniforms. But having something for the now audience could help. It's not gonna overload the movie, just one or two. Plus memes like "it's atrap" come from material that is over 2 decades old. Memes can be amusing anyway.

6. Same as 5.

7. Screw Menecia. Russel Peters makes cross cultural jokes all the damn time. Chris Tucker does it. Chapelle does it. Just because one unfunny Mexican who got bashed by South Park does it doesn't mean oyou ignore all the other successful routines involving it.

8. As in deadpool awareness. Brewaking the fourth wall?

9. But he lives in squalor and he is a jerk. And he does beat up a couple of mooks anyways. Just never collects al the coins or make coin related jokes. Like "I may not be made of money, but at least you are".

10. Because it's like in Indiana Jones where this guy is whoing off his awesome sword skills and Indy just shoots him. It's pragmatic and funny.

^ No I've never seen em around. I live in the uk so I can only find comic books at the libraries which don't update that often or in Waterstones which just stock heavy hitters. Borders might have stocked it but they've closed in Britain. But I only really read DC and Darkhorse comics. I read Marvel and IDW Transformer comics. I avoid manga.

1. That's why I said maybe. Even though that woul've been false advertisment as that's not really the main focus.

2. Or they'd just put more songs on Rock Band and call it a day.

3. They don't need to watch the movies and he's n ot the only actor that plays the same shit in every movie.

4. Unnecessary and still adds absolutely nothing to the movie. It's a kung-fu/music/romance movie. If that's not good enough for someone then that guy can go watch Hot Fuzz and shut up.

5. So why date it even more with a stupid joke that people might not even get now, let alone years from now when the joke has long died out. The fact that the prisoners in Shawshank Redemption wear out-dated attire is irrelevent because you still understand that they're prisoners (unless you're an idiot or something).

6. lol

7. And none of them have anything to do with the movie. Racial jokes get old fast, and how many stupid asian jokes do you need? They're all gonna be about the same as the one throw away line that's already there...

8. They do that in the comic, there's not very many good ways to do that in a film that don't suck and that wouldn't confuse half the audience.

9. Like I said (and you restated), they were mooks, Gideon's mooks, he took them down on his second run through Level 7 to gain more experience points.

10. Nobody wants to see a gun fight in a kung-fu movie.

[up]It's a Canadian graphic novel.

1. Well the trailer was falsely advertising it as Scott getting his ass kicked then triaining to get revenge. Plus a bunch of other stuff. The music stuff was better.

2. Yeah but not just the songs donated from bands but their own version like the sex-bob omb version of threshold or even the 8 bit one.

3. No but he keeps potraying a lame character in every movie which gets old fast. People love to watch Arnie or Samuel L in a movie to add a volatile element to a movie even though they don't have much variety and it can be seen as either badass or funny.

4. Yes Michael Bay is the king of uneccessary but sometimes it works. I mean it worked so far as the boss office was concerned. They have gay guys making out so why not lesbiens? I could argue showing the gay guys kissing was uneccessary.

5. Did I not already just mention the timelessness of some memes? Like "it's a trap!" it can be easily worked within a movie and it doesn't sound to out of character. I mean they make some obscure Pacman explanation anecdote and it sucks. If they can have that then they can pull an Admiral Ackbar.

6. same.

7. If they get old so fast why are they nothing new and why do the heavy hitters use them? Get real.

8. The movie is already confusing but my point is that the film intself acknowledges it so to wink at the audience and relate to them better.

9. Exp and coins. Think GTA where you go around attacking people for dah mohney. I always used to laugh when CJ in San Andreas beat someone up and said something like "I take that paper".

10. First of all gunfu. Then gun kata. Then blade and so you get my point. A weapon is a weapon is a weapon.

1. He did get his ass kicked. Ex 2, 3, 4, and 7. You mean that one line out of the commercial?

2. Still unimportant to the movie.

3. Speak for yourself...Arnold and Samuel get old REAL fast. They're nothing but jokes, nobody likes them because they're good actors, they like them because they suck so much that they're funny.

4. Michael Bay didn't make Hot Fuzz. Hot Fuzz is one of those "good" action moviestongue And The Expendables came out the same time and beat Scott Pilgrim at the box-offices. People have already stopped talking about that movie and from what I remember that had mind-less explosions AND guns.

5. The entire point of the Pacman explanation is that it sucks. And no, they can't throw a stupid meme in there for no reason, because there was never a reason to say the stupid, equally unfunny, line.

6. Profit.

7. Heavy Hitters? George Carlin and Bill Hicks did tons of racial jokes? I didn't know Chapelle and Mencia still had shows...

8. If you were confused by the movie there's no helping you. You relate to Stacey, who is just as confused by Matthew Pattel's goofy dance/fight sequence as the losers in the audience might be.

9. Scott doesn't have very much use for money. If you want to watch someone get hot and bothered over the coins, go back and watch the aftermath of fights 1 and 7 (part 2). Just cause it was funny those two times doesn't mean it's funny 15 times.

10. That's why Bruce Lee is so obscure. Cause he never carried a gat. Same with Street Fighter.

If your really arguing that this movie needed half the things your saying it needed, I'm glad you and Edgar Wright don't share similar views of movies.
