Looks like they're playing up the retro and fantasy angles to make the tech seem less silly- the place that Tron takes place in is not the Internet and never well be, it's something entirely different and unique that doesn't work like any software we know.
You like in Scott Pilgrim land? Or possibly the 'other side'?
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I love it... But I hate that they redid the look of the suits and stuff so much. But that may be just me. I would have liked to have kept the relatively LIGHT colors on the characters.
I'm ambivalent about the original Tron, but I've been looking forward to Tron Legacy from the day I heard of it. It looks like such an awesome spectacle.
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextSomething that I've been wondering: Is Tron (the character) not in this film at all?
I'm pretty sure that Bruce Boxleitner will be returning as Tron.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Boxleitner is obviously in the movie, and I've heard that they have innovative new de-aging CG tech that they're using on Bridges to represent a virtual copy of him, so Tron could be back in his original form, with Boxleitner providing the voice.
Of course, didn't Tron have a Heroic Sacrifice in the original? Not that death would have to be permanent... It is, of course, called Tron Legacy... as in, it could be the legacy of Tron after his death. Maybe a new Tron will be named?
"The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules." - E. Gary Gygax^That was Flynn, actually, and all that happened to him was that he finally got out of the system and retrieved the evidence the MCP was keeping from him.
The trailers for Tron Evolution seem to indicate that Tron himself (or someone who sounds like him; no face is shown) is guiding a new program to replace or aid him.
I don't have too much to say.I really gotta get the original from Netflix. I haven't seen it for at least 20 years.
"The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules." - E. Gary GygaxI have the original on DVD and watch it every now and then. It's such an awesome film that I plan to show it to my son very soon. Tron Legacy sounds like something I'll see just for the nostalgia value, regardless of any merit it might have on its own.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"If you haven't heard, some of Daft Punk's score is streaming at tronsoundtrack.com- just type 'derezzed' to start listening.
...is out to lunch.^ -*goes through trying to find anything resembling the original theme-*
I was gonna say that I'm concerned about whether Tron's gonna actually be in the damn movie seeing as I have seen absolutely nothing of him toy-wise.
^He probably isn't, though his actor will be.
I don't have too much to say.Free tickets to a 20-ish minute preview in ten different cities on Thursday! I already got mine!
Rawr!Aww, I wish I was nearby one of those cities!
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.:3 I'm within walking distance of Navy Pier! I'm super duper excited for this! Gonna look AND sound awesome!
Rawr!I don't like what I'm seeing from Tron Legacy. Check out TRON 2.0 for a proper sequel - Tron Legacy doesn't seem to have one iota of intelligence in its little head.
Honestly, a politician in the computer?
Jonah FalconNow this is a film that actually would suit 3D.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I still don't see how the film can exist on the audience's Willing Suspension of Disbelief when we live in a technological age and pretty much everyone knows about computers. For example if programs are artificially alive and have personal feelings, like even mp3s and security programs, how come no one has discovered artificially intelligence or that any of this was being noticed in the C+ code? Maybe a Mathematician did it?
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. Not up to par with my Tron lingo and such, but I think it's supposed to be some computer system by Encom Technology that's not in the Internet. Maybe it's supposed to be an experimental thing that takes computer programs and data and makes beings out of them.
The Man in Black fled across the Island, and The Doctor followed.^ No, it's said pretty much "This is what things look like and how they work to programs and stuff." Honestly it's pretty cool as an idea, and no more suspension of disbelief is needed than it is to accept, say, a killer robot that can time-travel, or a flying blue boy-scout, or toys coming alive.
Well the movies coming up in 3 months now (Dec 17.) so it seemed as good a time as any to begin discussing it. Personally I loved the original Tron for it's now campy graphics, and I'll be very interested how the Willing Suspension of Disbelief will work now that pretty much everyone in the 21st century is somewhat tech savvy.
And at least the Recognizers look cool [1]◊
