Thanks, Electrivirus *brofist*
Anyhow, I'm interested in making my own music with the computer, but I feel I could probably do it a lot more effectively if I understood how music worked.
So, I would like to read up on music theory and I know that a few tropers around here are studying music.
Could you guys please recommend to me some good reading material for someone who is starting out. I would prefer something with an emphasis on rock and roll/pop/dance music rather than classical, I'm not very interested in classical or orchestral music. However, if there are some concepts which are just best taught that way, I'm not totally allergic to it, either.
I have no problems with paying for books, I have a day job and some disposable income so unless it's some extraordinarily expensive out of print rarity, it's all good. Of course, if you know some sort of awesome free online beginner's reference for music theory, that's even better.
Something that's fairly engaging to read rather than something boring and technical would be preferred, but if that's all that's going, so be it.
Thanks in advance, guys!
I don't know about books, since I learned most of what I did from a combination of basic reading for beginners, practical experience and connecting the dots myself. I'd be happy to PM you with a general overview or you could PM me with any particular questions to have (or a bit of both).
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchMy singing teacher recommended this to me, and it's incredible. It's essentially a course in a book, that tests you on material immediately after you've learned it, with additional tests at the end of every chapter. It's quite good at sticking the concepts directly into your brain.
