I'd just keep doing story quests. If I understand correctly you're given level appropriate gear from them by default, now? That said, unlock Pharos Sirius near Limsa Lominsa (it's in one of the towns you can reach by boat) for imo, one of the best dungeons in the game, and generally all the rest of the level 50 dungeons as you can to at least experience them once.

They all provide tokens you can use to have gear that's more than good enough to carry you through to 53.

Ahh, but I don't have Heavensward. I'm not planning to get it for the next couple of weeks in order to rest up and get ready for the storyline and such. I had wayyyy too much story for awhile...

Continuing the MSQ series now awards halfway decent gear. I'd still vacuum up poetics and buy as much Ironworks gear as possible.

The sooner you get Heavensward the better however, because as you go through the main story quests you will be receiving EXP that you won't benefit from without raising the level cap/

I shouldn't have gotten Happy Home Designer... I'm not very focused on getting levels though, but now you brought that into consideration then i'm kinda nervous. What should I do then?

The main story quests will give you better but you could do the now-outdated Relic Reborn quest to pick up your class's signature weapon. If you have any incilination to try out crafting and gathering, maybe pick up the Ixali beast tribe questline, which focuses on crafting.

For laughs and fun times, you can also do the Hildebrand quest series. It includes a few fun trials that are classic FF homages too. They start in Ul'dah. If you like the idea of delving into character side sories, the Postmoogle quest series will kill some time (they are pretty much all fetch quests) though I forget where those start...Mor Dhona?

Yeah, the first quest is called Of Errant Epistles or something.

I'm not sure there's any point to putting off the 2.1 and onwards story quests, unless you want the exp gains from the new level cap and want to get Heavensward first.

I need to level Thaumaturge on my healer character, for Surecast. Need to get to lv26. Sigh.

The quests themselves do not give XP even with HW installed anyway and the 110 rewards are the same no matter what.

Really do the quests up till the finale of it, it will take you 30+ hours to do them anyway and if you do them later HW will be burning a hole in your pocket ruining the experience.

I thought the lv50 story quests had EXP rewards now. Or is that only with HW installed?

Nope, none actually have XP.

You do get XP from mobs you kill with huge diminishing returns past 52. You also can get XP from random dungeons you do but that is it.

Overworld mobs are only good sources of EXP when your level is in single digits, unless they changed something I don't know about. And when you say 'random dungeons', what do you mean exactly? The roulettes?

I'm pretty sure the level 50 quests after the 2.0 main story do give experience. People wouldn't consistently hit 53 before even getting into Ishgard otherwise.

Does it though? Mob EXP, I mean. What is it, about 400xp per kill for a lv50 mob, if that? That's nothing when you need over 800,000xp to get from 50 to 51. That's 2,000 kills. Surely there are better ways to go about it.

LV 50 instanced content don't give EXP unless you're doing roulettes. I did hear that 3.1 could have these things give EXP again.

Yeah, I heard that too. It'd be nice, take the edge off that 50-60 grind.

Hopefully they do the same for the 24 man raids, right now the queue times are upwards of 3 hours for just a healer.

I'd been wondering if anyone even still ran those. I haven't since Heavensward. With no EXP rewards and obsolete loot, there's little reason to.

I can't remember if it was here or not, but someone mentioned a while back the idea of a raid roulette. I don't know if it would work for the Binding Coil, but the Crystal Tower ought to be manageable.

The 2.x story quests do give EXP rewards. Significantly less EXP than the massively-buffed 2.0 quests, but EXP nonetheless.

The 2.x 50 quests do give XP. I've got a NIN halfway through 2.1 getting XP and my BH MCH is at Snowcloak and has a quest journal that lists a reward amount.

@Artful You sure you don't mean Swiftcast, or is there some about Surecast on healers that I'm missing (like maybe healers getting stunned too often somehow)

It's Swiftcast. Surecast is earlier in the tree.

You have to have Heavensward installed to get any XP from level 50 quests and I think that's only from the main story.

Is there a post that lists the servers people of this forum are playing on? I'm curious.
