You're right: was trying to pull it out of memory.

Our main healer, who we are convinced is the greatest healer in the entire game, is almost a better DPS than me, and she still basically keeps our HP bars constantly full at the same time, unless she feels like playing How Low Can You Go with the tank, which she usually only does with one of our tanks because it's the game they play and they think it's funny.

Long story short, she has the line between DPS and healing down to a science, and she spends more time in Cleric than not. Though, as said previously, she does refrain from DPS'ing in hyper-face-melting raid stuff. T5 is basically the only thing she never DPS's in. Even in the new dungeons and ST she'll DPS a lot.

Also proved my point: when you are with people you know, you know how they play, thus you can adjust to their style. With a random party in the DF, it's a crapshoot.

Cleric Stance's cooldown is perfectly timed so you can use two GCD abilities smoothly. Once you're comfortable with content, you can get the timing down pat and have a pseudo rotation. WHM is easier since so many of their abilities are heals and situational; they only have a handful of damaging spells to deal with. I usually open the fight in Cleric Stance, pop off both Aero and Aero II when the tank pulls, switch Cleric Stance off to apply Regen and other maintenance healing, then either keep healing or switch back to Cleric Stance for two Stone II before switching it off again. SCH is a bit more complex because of Do T timing, but they're also more flexible because of their summons.

Really, it's all a matter of learning timing if you want to healer DPS. It's just not recommended when you're taking raidwide damage every so often.

Sorry for the double post, but 2.41 patch notes are out. The only major changes are the expected SCoB nerfs and opening it to DF. And they seem to have resolved an issue with the Wandil fight in Snowcloak.

I guess this means I really need to brush up on T5 and start pushing for SCoB progression with my FC.

I'm annoyed by the SCoB nerfs. I haven't even gotten there yet, and for being slow I'm punished with the baby mode?

[up]

It was already established by Yoshida that the second coil was going to get nerfed like the first coil had done.

I know this and I'm still annoyed. I wish there were some choice in the mater.

We have yet to see how it shakes out but there's a lot of people whose initial reaction is that the nerfs are overreaching, even compared to the ones for 1st Coil.

Part of the problem is that:

  • Some players are in the "Impatient Entitled" camp: And lack the skill to actually do it
  • The content will eventually grow stale anyway, making it harder to do said content without these impliments (just imagine how many people will do Coil once Heavensward comes out)
  • Final Fantasy and MM Os both have an Unpleasable Fanbase

So basically it boils down either "making thing easier so that the people that still want to do it, can" or "alienate the causal player-base in favor of a perceived Vocal Minotity"

On the bright side, there is still Savage Coil so those that actually want a challenge can go there.

[up] I'll believe that if I can get past the entire second coil on the first try. Even when nerfed, T5 was still a pain to get through

I never understand why people are against these sorts of nerfs. The fights are never made easy enough that you can go in blind—you still need to put in the work to learn the mechanics, learn your role, and learn to coordinate with your party. All it does is make the process a smidge faster and give a wider margin of error.

I mean, Ramuh EX was similarly nerfed at 2.4, and I got my clear then, but the vast majority of runs I do still ends in a wipe because people don't know the fight. This isn't going to open the floodgates on some hypothetical horde of unwashed scrubs.

If anything the nerfs make the coils go from "you die fast" to "you die slightly not as fast". Despite the nerfs, people to this day still can't clear T5, even with fully decked out gear.

Ramuh and T5 (and T9) didn't actually get mechanics nerfs, just Echo. And at least Echo can be clicked off (but in practice this rarely happens because the other people in party will object).

I for one am glad of the nerfs and will be pleased when we finally get there. x.x

Last night, the NA/EU data centers were DDOS'd by an unknown source, causing tons of disconnects and login issues. I was there when it went down. I don't know if it's still going on right now, but figured I let you all know.

First I heard of that was a post on the launcher when I went to log in earlier. Played for three hours with no problems.

Also, finally lv50 ninja. Relic, here I come.

It started going fuckery on Sunday night, but I didn't have problems yesterday. Friend of mine in another state kept getting 90k'd tho. And today it seems to be holding well.

World of Warcraft was also hit at the same time, so it seems like a bunch of bored kids trying to disrupt a bunch of MMO games.

Weird, because I played a lot on Sunday and Monday and had no problems. Unless...

Yeah, I did, actually. Sunday night (well, small hours of Monday morning, for me at least), there was a mass disconnect, and I got all kinds of errors trying to get back in. It seemed to be fine again an hour or so later, and I've had no problems since. Information at the time was, if I remember correctly, that there was a fault with the server that caused it to be stuck in a high load state or something, but there was no mention of a DDOS attack like in today's post.

I zoned into an area where an S was, which is typically what generates the most ohshitfuckmylifelag for me, but it was fine. Other than the early pull.

[up] I remember that happening to me once when I logged in. I freaked out wondering why my FPS had dropped into the low 20s, exited the game, and realized it was an S-rank after logging back in. Hopefully hunts stay nerfed into 2.5. I like that they're great for getting to baseline gear (i.e., i100 Soldiery), but they definitely shouldn't be the easiest and most efficient way of getting the latest stuff (i.e. Poetics). I think it's at a nice balance right now, though they could probably drop the price for Soldiery gear in Allied Seals by 25% or so.

artfulscruff Since: Apr, 2010
#672: Nov 20th 2014 at 2:12:28 AM

I'd agree with that. I did a couple of hunts the other night because the opportunity presented itself, and they didn't feel as worthwhile as they used to (though I always thought, pre-Poetics, that the rewards were a bit too much). My first thought about the current rewards was to increase them just a little, but decreasing the cost of the Soldiery gear at the Billmaster would work too.

Have they made hunt marks easier to kill too? The A ranks I did, with only maybe 10-12 people, were not as tough as I expected.

Agreed, 300-600 seals for soldiery is way too high.
