That's what I'm suspecting they'd do but... that just doesn't feel very Blue Mage like.

The whole reason the Job is well liked is because you actively seek out abilities from monsters. You determine your moveset, and XI did a good job of making that a distinct choice because you were limited in how many you could equip at once. XIV isn't going to do that because they're trying to create a tighter, balanced game compared to the admittedly very loose, very messy XI, and if I recall from an interview with Yoshi-P, even he wagered what makes the Job fun wouldn't mesh with the way XIV is structured and the expectations of a modern day MMO playerbase, since there wouldn't be any choice involved lest players make "wrong" ones and be unable to contribute meaningfully in group content.

NEST did a 12 Days of Christmas parody. Hilarious as always. "I swear Benediction went off"

Wonder whether they might warrant a section/page.

According this, Matsuno's apparently a permanent fixture on the XIV team. He's been working with them since spring of this year.

You guys are missing out on the true meaning of the Spiderman shirt.

Spiderman is infamous for Spiderman on Broadway.

We're getting the Dancer class.

Do you think they'll be able to squeeze in one more beast tribe daily in Heavensward, or will they save that for the expansion?

I won't lie, I'm sort of interested in seeing more Demiurges, even if they were supposed to be all killed off by Ascian Jr.

Nope, there won't be anymore. Everything was already set in stone and the devs are all hands on deck for 4.0. Keep in mind they like to plan and develop things months or even years in advance.

Well, that's sad.

I've also fallen in love with the prototype alexandrian healer gear. I might very well have to hang up my darksword to get my hands on the i270 full set.

The new Heavensturn event is up.

And this /r/ffxiv post sums up the quest.

Also: rereading 8-bit theater, this strip is epically hilarious in hindsight.

I'm expecting Yda to turn out to be an Ascian. She's wearing a mask, and apparently looks the same as she did a while ago, according to one of the Ala Mhigo residents. A hint to her immortality, perhaps?

That's probably a reference to the fact the Scions all use age-freezing magic.

I think Yda's deal is going to be more about conflicting loyalties between the scions and the resistance.

I honestly think that's too obvious. She flat out took off when a man recognised her during the MSQ following the Wo Ds defeat. That's not someone with conflicting loyalties, that's someone with something to hide.

And how long have the Scion's been using immortality magic? Minfilia seemed rather disbelieving when she was talking with one of the Ascian's around the leviathan questline.

She did essentially ditch the resistance for 20 years while she went off and trained in Sharlayan, joined another organisation, and then worked in and around Little Ala Mhigo for years without catching up with her old comrades. And now she's fresh out of hearing the Griffin's "We Abandoned Our Homeland" speech. She's probably feeling guilty AF.

I'm not sure how long they've been using the age magic - Y'shtola is frozen at the age of 23, IIRC, and Papalimo is apparently in his 40s.

Honestly, it's just tying in to what I predict, based on previous expansion updates.

When they went to ARR, the continent was blown up by Bahamut.

When they went to Heavensward, the Wo L was accused of killing the sultana, and fled in disgrace.

Each expansion is triggered by some disaster, and what would be better than one of the core members of the scions not just being possessed, but being an enemy from the start?

I dunno. I'm just extremely suspicious of her, she even mentioned how she wanted to keep the bribes that the people trying to take control of the scions were sending.

Regardless of her behavior, having Yda being possessed would be a big disappointment from me because we already went through that song and dance with Thancred (though he got possessed by different means). If anything, we'll probably explore Yda's character and loyalties while dealing with a much larger threat.

I'm not saying that she becomes possessed for the upcoming content. I'm saying that she was under Ascian Influence the entire time she was part of the Scions. Even at the start, I don't think she was that critical to the plot, given that she was part of a two-man Gridanian Envoy when all the other nations only needed one.

But we aren't going to convince each other on this point. Might as well just sit back and watch what happens.

Next patch trailer is up.

... don't look at me, I don't know how to embed videos in forum posts, the submit button hates it when I do stuff like that.

I will say that Lady Yugiri is making a reappearance, and the Sohm Ahl (Hard) looks awesome. Dun Scaith, third part of the void ark trilogy, doesn't look as hard as weeping city was, but appearances can be deceiving. At the very least, the first boss appears to have a "ring out instant death" mechanic like the orb of doom did.

I dunno. Seems about right.

  • New Hildibrand quests
  • New Trial fight
  • New Raid dungeon
  • 2 new dungeons, one from the main scenario
  • and a few extras (the beast tribe combo quest, diadem overhaul)

The next relic step is coming, but they usually don't advertise such a thing in the trailer. It'll probably come in part 2 in March.

3.5 will have the i270 Anima step. The "glowy" i275 in March. 3.55 will also have the Proto-Ultima fight (from the fanfest).

And they left out the Party Finder update and the Zhloe content.

Oh dear, I think, from that trailer, that I know what's going to go down with Nero at Baelsar's Wall, and what is being summoned.

Nero, Cid, Yda, and a few others are seen at a console showing what appears to be the design of Omega. Nero looks triumphant, Cid looks grave, and when Yda hits the button, she looks angry about having to do so.

What I think is going to happen is that Nero, who knows about Omega but doesn't have the support or tech to wake it up on his own, is going to take advantage of the events at Baelsar's Wall to convince our heroes to activate Omega (a weapon said to be capable of defeating Bahamut), and turn it over to Nero, so that they can fight the Nidhogg-powered Primal that the Griffin's allies are summoning. Place their backs against the wall by maneuvering into a situation where the choices are "use Omega, or die", basically

If I'm right, and that's how Omega will first be used? Then I would bet money that the Primal being summoned is Shinryu.

I'm more curious about the new allied beastmen quest. Why are some of the Vanu Vanu look like they are being possessed?
