You decide that as a result of his non-exemplary behavior, JORMUNGANDR is banned from the THREAD for the next ONE HUNDRED POSTS.

You get your GUARDS to drag GEMINI away, a command that she has no qualms with obeying. It's simply not safe, considering CAPRICORN. You stride from the CASTLE, out into your COURTYARD, and raise up the BLOODFORGED CLAYMORE in both hands.

   "Evan Above. ANSWER ME! I CALL UPON THE FORCES OF HELL!"   

A circle of the SKY turns FIERY RED. A cloud of BLACK, WINGED SHAPES swoop down toward you, gibbering and laughing, the outlines of CRUDE WEAPONRY in their HANDS. They bring HELLFIRE with them.

   "Men! To arms! Defend your capital! Defend your Empire!"   

Your ARMY thus rallied and bolstered by DEMONIC FORCES, you ride forth atop your great WARHORSE, a terrifying visage of BLACK ARMOR and GREAT GIRTH. The other ARMY - composed of your own PEASANTS and a ragtag motley from the SOUTH - come to bear. You almost laugh. You cannot believe these fools have made it this far. You will need to train your ARMIES better in the future.

BATTLE is met.

You do so, in a very awesome manner that involves no shortage of cunning maneuvers and implausible underdog victories, splitting the GROUND FORCES apart and using the TANKS to launch MISTED HOLY WATER skyward in order to repel the DEMONS. Though your ARMY subdues the other within the course of an HOUR, you cannot seem to find TAURUS I; his WARHORSE has been dissolved by a well-aimed ORB OF ACID, but the man himself is vanished, missing.

This stands to reason. He's a MAJOR VILLAIN. He has to show up again sometime.

The CAPITAL falls into line relatively easily, and you march through into the CASTLE, overcoming the GARRISON with little trouble. In fact, it is almost disturbing just how easy this is, though you are not about to complain. You suspect your position as a LEGENDARY STRATEGIST has been solidified by now. You feel that you should care more about the FACTIONS you are toppling, but what you live for is the moment when all your PLANS come together.

Staring at this CASTLE, watching the OPPRESSED NATION you love being freed, you cannot help but stop to reflect upon your PAST some more, wandering down the stairs into the ARCHIVES of the CASTLE. You have some research to be done.

Changing your CHARACTER SHEET, rewriting it again and again...

Five years ago, you were a GIRL EXECUTIONER. All the WOMEN in your family that were of the appropriate generation were GIRL EXECUTIONERS. Your COUSINS, your SISTER. You watched them all grow, shared CAMPFIRES with them, shared near scrapes with GIANT SANDWORMS and BOARS and WOLVES on your forays abroad into FOREIGN COUNTRIES. But you enjoyed the forays so much because you hated the EMPIRE. You resented it and its EMPEROR for what had happened to you.

You would have had a job as an IMPERIAL CLERK...

Four years ago, you tried to place your thoughts together, using what MAGICAL POWER you were not afraid to take hold of. You decided to go. But others sought to hold you back, fearing what the WORLD would do to you. You never feared it; instead, you welcomed the chance at FREEDOM, the chance to experience what until then could not be yours. Under the NAIVETE that you have worked hard at curing, there has been PASSION and ANGER.

PASSION and ANGER that has finally been sated.

You've always wanted to change this COUNTRY.

You come to a CUPBOARD full of blank DOSSIERS and begin to write one out for yourself.

You wanted to learn about TACTICS and STRATEGY and RELIGION. You knew it would help you get this far.

So you rewrote her DESTINY, as well. But you did it with a very simple reading. One CARD. THE HIEROPHANT. In this case, in fact, THE HIEROPHANT was you. You decided that she would never be able to get you out of her HEAD, and if she tried to say anything about your PLANS, the you inside her HEAD would hurl her off a CLIFF. You didn't count on the other you developing plans of her own, but on the way down you learned that GEMINI was imprisoned here.

In point of fact, you're standing right in front of her CELL.

"Oh, believe me." You smile softly. "Justin Case's hand is in my life. Every. Single. Day."

You stride away and let her die of the sudden ILLNESS that she's contracted, folding your hidden TAROT DECK back into HAMMERSPACE.

   "Huuaggggh! Capricorn, you bitch! You know I'm realer than you! I hate you! I hate yaaauggh..."   

It's good to be the QUEEN. Time to go take charge of things in a more proper sense.

She tells you yes. She tells you about everything CAPRICORN did before she left, everything she promised and swore in regards to your EMPIRE.

   "... Thank you. I must go to my armies and protect my Empire. You will remain here, in the prisons, for your own protection. She will want to kill you."   

You reach out and hug her to you briefly, TEARS streaming down the inside of your HELMET.

   "I am sorry for the life you have lived. I loved your mother. I loved you girls, too. I did the very best I could for you and all of my other citizens, all the while knowing you were among the worst. I deeply regret the fact that I could never be a father to you. Not properly. If you never see me again, remember these words, sweet Gemini. They are as true as can be."   

You departed the CASTLE, thus saying. You could not help noticing the TEARS in her eyes, as well. If only you could have done more.

If only you had not been doomed from birth by your own fouled SHIT-FOR-BLOOD.

If only CAPRICORN had not spit at the best chance you were allowed to give her.

If only so many things.

You wipe away the TEARS.

Grief, replaced with STEELY RESOLVE.

You must win. For the sake of the EMPIRE.

YUMI has been conquered utterly and completely.

That is in the process of happening right now. Its CITIZENRY are being absorbed into MANGONEL'S CASTE SYSTEM and set to work as SLAVE LABOR, SOLDIERING beneath TALC OFFICERS or working in the MOUNTAINHOME'S FACTORIES. The YUMIAN MOUNTAINS themselves are in the process of being converted into an extension of the MOUNTAINHOME, all but alleviating the OVERCROWDING ISSUES that MANGONEL had been running into.

YUMIAN CULTURE is all but forgotten in the ensuing CHAOS.

You stay wary. After all, there's WAR everywhere around you, and you need to look out for your own. Nonetheless, this is much better than you expected. Much, much better.

A quarter-inch before landing, the BLADE of a COMPOSITE EMPIRE SOLDIER is turned away, and an INFANTRYMAN dances in, two YUMIAN BLADES whirling in his hands. He dances a dance of death, graceful and lithe, somehow avoiding all harm as his SWORDS bite FLESH again and again. Once he has made a small CLEARING amid the press of BATTLE, he turns to you and lifts his HAT.

You, of course, recognize him.

"Jiro. Have you..."

"All this way."

"...why would you do something so stupid!"

"To make up for the other stupid thing I did."

"Which of all the thousands?!"

"Ha. Good point. We'll talk later?"

"...okay."

He's gone again. You hear SCREAMS as he begins to fight anew. You turn back to the WAR as well, flicking open your FANS and dancing into the FRAY.

You can barely suppress a delighted SMILE.

You've gone underground, deep beneath YUMI and into the ANCIENT RUINS of the NATION which preceded it. You inhabit the CAVERNS and TUNNELS, which at times feature the STONE BUILDINGS of a BYGONE AGE. Many of the greatest YUMIAN SCHOLARS are here with you, and you're working hard at saving the authorities on various points of YUMIAN CULTURE. Sometimes you have to move, because the MANGONELIANS are a mining CULTURE and they insist on digging downward. You must be at least HALF A MILE DOWN by now.

The YUMIAN CAVE SYSTEM is immense, however, so you aren't in immediate danger.

You had mixed feelings about the way things have broken down during the last DAY. You're exhausted, for one thing, though that's only to be expected in the wake of a MAJOR INVASION. More to the point, you aren't really surprised by this development. Women are always planning something. Women are never what they seem. First GRETCHEN, now NOCK. Both of them have managed to use you.

Which isn't to say that you aren't getting due compensation for it. You're situated inside the CASTLE that used to belong to TAURUS I. You've chosen, for your ROOM, one of the TOWERS, so as to get a clear view of the MOON and a breeze of AIR, which ensures that the TOWER, unlike the entire rest of the CASTLE, does not smell of BRIMSTONE. You have a lovely feather BED, a collection of BOOKS, and more MONEY, in GOLD COINS, than you think you could ever possibly spend.

ERRANT the WEREWOLF. Savior of the COMPOSITE EMPIRE.

You are down in the STABLES. Unlike ERRANT, you really don't like this state of affairs. You really don't like it at all. You've figured out how to TRANSFORM at will, and are thus in HUMAN FORM now, drinking yourself into oblivion from the CASTLE'S WINE STOCKS.

You stride back into the ARCHIVES to review your PAPERS and MAPS. You take up the QUILL and continue to write, barely able to focus on committing your dizzying THOUGHTS to PARCHMENT. You want to be fighting more WARS. Ever since you've been allowed to command ARMIES, it's become a kind of burning addiction. Almost something you're incapable of living without. You almost want to resign from the EMPRESS' service and lock yourself up until you're clean of the urge. But she needs you now, more than ever.

And addiction, after all, is a powerful thing.


>BE MINORU

In the DAY, you have your SCIENCES and your MAGIC. You are calmer than before, and rapidly mastering those ETHERIC DISCIPLINES which did not readily come to you prior. Your FIRES are calmed, and now LIQUID and SOLID are falling under your dominion. Once you have mastered them you will move on to the DEMON MAGIC the EMPRESS is so intent on having you master. You've been looking at the WASTELANDS TECHNOLOGY, as well; with it, you plan to improve AGRICULTURE and MANUFACTURING in the lands you have thus far conquered.

At NIGHT, there is the EMPRESS. She invited you up for TEA one NIGHT, and one thing led to another. She tells you that all QUEENS have their little SECRETS, and that you are almost certainly allowed to be hers, even if she has to end up marrying for POLITICAL REASONS. For the time being, you can certainly find nothing to complain about. In fact, you even attribute this state of affairs to your growing ETHERIC SKILL.

"I'm very impressed with your progress, you know."

You turn to face her. She's half-asleep, gazing at you with lidded EYES, and reaches out to tousle your HAIR.

"I could not have asked for a better minister of science. Nor a better court wizard. You have always deeply impressed me, Minoru."

"I am... glad that I please you, Empress."

"Call me Capricorn... I only like it when everyone else calls me Empress. You can have a pass."

"Ah..."

"Shh, now. Come here. Hold me. Let's sleep."

You've never been happier.

You have returned to KESHET. As time has worn on, you have felt your OBSCENITY draining away, until you hardly feel compelled to swear at all. You will use the word only to emphasize things of meaning. Your MAGIC, by now, is completely gone; all you have left to you is that which ANIMATES your WITHERED CORPSE.

But you are still KING OF THE DESERT.

In a sense.

You had to lay down your WHIP before the EMPRESS and swear your FEALTY.

"I will accept this as a token of your fealty, King of the Desert. Serve me well, and never falter. When I have need of your aid and your armies, they will be asked for."

"I SHALL LEAVE ERRANT WITH YOU. HE IS A MAN GROWN AND WILL SERVE YOU BETTER THAN I. I PREFER MY SOLITUDE."

"So long as you remember your oath. So long as you remember that your heir is here with me. There will be no difficulties." She smiled at you.

"THEN I TAKE MY LEAVE."

Before you did that, however, you went to say goodbye to ERRANT.

You had said to him, "I ASK YOU TO REMEMBER ONE THING." You paused. "YOU ARE NOT MY FLESH AND BLOOD, BUT I RAISED YOU FROM A BABE. YOU ARE MY HEIR, SO NAMED AND DECLARED. YOU MAY NOT LIKE ME, BUT I DO NOT ASK YOU TO. I ASK YOU TO REMAIN SAFE, FOR THE SAKE OF THE DESERT."

"What is so important about the desert, father?"

"LIKE THE WASTELAND, ERRANT... IT WILL COME INTO ITS OWN, BLOOMING LIKE A FLOWER. IT SLEEPS NOW, AND I HAVE WATCHED IT PATIENTLY FOR CENTURIES. BUT TRUST THIS OLD CORPSE'S BONES WHEN HE TELLS YOU THERE ARE STRANGE THINGS COMING. MY TIME IS PASSING, BUT KESHET'S IS ONLY BEGINNING. I HAVE GUARDED IT, BUT SOON YOU MUST DO THE SAME."

"How will I know what to do?"

"THE DEAD WILL SPEAK."

You left him on that note. You had many THOUGHTS, but since they would pose the PLAYERS of this game with an unfair advantage, they will remain unrevealed.


>BE THE EMPRESS

Exactly as planned.

You sit upon your THRONE, gazing about the THRONE ROOM and contemplating the TAPESTRIES and the WINDOWS that are now yours. The NATION has adapted rather smoothly, and you've worked hard at improving the living conditions of the people. That was just the thing about your FATHER, you've always felt; too old-fashioned. Too stubborn. Too recalcitrant.

You shuffle your CARDS in your hands. Change, you decide. You're going to lay a spread for the EMPIRE right here and now to guarantee its future success. GEMINI was wrong. It is your place to toy with DESTINY and FATE. JUSTIN CASE has given you that right and that power.

A CARD slips from your HAND. You try to grab it, but too late; you've already begun the SPELL, and this CARD, in falling accidentally, has completed it.

You pick it up, and turn it over.

THE TOWER.

"Oh, fuck."

Troubles ahead.

You're in the GARDENS that you've made the EMPRESS start growing. You explained to her, in detail, how important BEAUTIFUL THINGS are for the healthiness of a person's mind, and immediately began work on acquiring and planting the requisite PLANTS. You've also been trying to keep tabs on everyone, but it's been so busy and everyone's been so occupied in their own separate things to try and get the EMPIRE back on its feet.

"So you're telling me the reason you were such a huge jerk is because you felt trapped?! You decided to mess with everyone like that because of your stupid issues?! Oh my gosh, Jiro! That's awful! How can you even think that makes any of it okay?!"

"It doesn't. I was an awful excuse for a human being and you were completely right to criticize me. I've worked hard at changing."

"Because you regret it, or because I yelled at you?!"

"Because... You yelled at me. But it isn't like that - it's not selfish, like you're assuming. It took you yelling at me to snap me out of what I was becoming because you were the only one that really mattered to me."

"... And now?"

"I'd be... lying if I said that wasn't still the case, actually. But I have tried not to hurt people. Not because I'd feel bad about it, but because you wouldn't want me to and because I know that I shouldn't. Now that I've gotten away from that life it's become easier for me to recognize."

"So you're saying you don't feel bad even now?"

"No. I don't. But I at least know that it's wrong and feel guilty for not feeling guilty, so isn't that something?"

"... I suppose, given what you were like before, that it's a start. Jiro, what you did on the battlefield? When you saved my life? It was very noble of you. Very brave and heroic. But that's something any of the other people I know could have done. Just because you're a better warrior now doesn't mean I don't hold what you said before against you. But... can you stay?"

"I meant to. I'll leave if you want, though."

"No. Just... Join me in prayer. Meditate with me. I think to be a truly great warrior, Jiro, you're going to need to think as well as you fight. You can't just run away from school because you hate thinking. Not thinking was what made you so awful to begin with."

"... I know."

"But, Jiro?"

"Yes?"

"You've made progress. I'm really proud of you."

"...Thank you."

You walk back into the CASTLE. The EMPRESS wants you to get a CARNIVAL organized. She claims the COMPOSITE EMPIRE has no CULTURE or ENTERTAINMENT of its own save for GEOMETRIC GAMES, and believes the POPULACE needs more in the way of LIGHTHEARTED AMUSEMENT.

IMPS now exist. They are what happens when people have niggling little IRRATIONAL BELIEFS and SUPERSTITIONS. Not strong enough to be real GODS, like the JUSTINS or the YUMIAN ZODIAC, but a cut above MORTALS and roughly on par with most ELVES.

However, JUSTIN TIME is not in a position to drown his SORROWS. He is currently waiting for just the right MOMENT. It's very important business. You can't interrupt Him.

You locate a THINKING MACHINE. At first it refuses to work, but once you get a PLASMA SCHOLAR to start powering it with small bursts of LIGHTNING it boots up most adequately.

You try to INPUT the request for aid, but it's blocked, and these words appear on the SCREEN instead:

RELIC: This machine has been assimilated. Do not attempt to operate it. Await further instructions.

The COMPOSITE EMPIRE labors to become strong once more. ARBALEST waits, wary of attack from any possible angle, frightened of the two developing SUPERPOWERS that are sandwiching it in. To the north, GASTRAPHETES undergoes a RENAISSANCE AGE, as the SPACESHIP TECHNOLOGY is analyzed and the inhabitants of the HAVEN learn to understand MAJOR TOM. East of GASTRAPHETES, SCORPIO waits, developing its own brand of MAGITECH in the deeps beneath their BEAUTIFUL GRASSLANDS.

In a CITY OF METAL that stands between the two CONTINENTS thus far discovered, a MERCENARY looks out across the ocean, and his new COMPANION, the FISHERMAN, looks down at the dizzying array of BUILDINGS.

In SPACE above, the RELIC works, gathering information about the current situation and attempting to work out a PLAN with which to combat what looks to be the beginnings of GLOBAL WAR. The THINKING MACHINES aid it, more out of obligation than choice; without it, they are relegated back to menial, useless existences outside of a GLOBAL NETWORK.

In another PLANE, nearby and yet so far away, the ELVEN RESISTANCE is broken and its LEADERS are hung from the tallest TREES in the WOODS for all to see. The WOOD ELVES reign supreme. In all of EXISTENCE, there are but two living FREE ELVES; ODIN and MAGNI, whereabouts as of yet unknown.

TAURUS I is in hiding, whereabouts also as of yet unknown. He has the BLOODFORGED CLAYMORE with him.

It will probably be within the next TWENTY-FOUR HOURS however. There will probably be a RECAP, an updated WORLD MAP, and a listing of CHARACTERS included. There may also be a slight shift in terms of GAMEPLAY due to the TIME SHIFT taking place, which has been FORESHADOWED.

Also, as of this POST, JORMUNGANDR has EIGHTY-THREE POSTS remaining before he is allowed to return as a PLAYER. This COUNTER will carry over into the next THREAD.

Just, you know, so we're clear on that.

Stupid ELVES. Break the rules any chance they get unless you spell things out specifically for them.
