[up]Read 'em and weep:

The birth of Vagina dentata girl

Fanboy freaking out about it

Fanboy calling for help

Bonus fucked up comic co-starring our favourite Mary Sue

I still think this is one of the creepiest set of comics Tats has done and every time I see them it makes me question his mental state.

Fuchsia and Absinthe aren't enough for you? I would've mentioned Nana, but she's technically the patroness of the Sistuhood, so...

The women who have little to nothing to do with feminism or robots seem like normal persons. As soon as they come into contact with either of them then they start showing really weird behaviours.

Case in point: Fuchsia. Her characterization since hooking up with Criminy was that she became a friend to all living things. Enter a group of violent fembots. She turned a memory wiped guy into a frog just so they wouldn't have to kill them. Like those were the only options or something.

Ah, good old Sapphire, adding a much-needed dose of cynical realism. That's right Absinthe, you don't have to sell your body every night to make a living. Tell her about how the world is such a great place.

The unwarranted optimist in my wants to think that this strip might actually have a point.

If I didn't think it's probably really beyond Tats to do such a thing, I might think this was a blow as the sheltered upper-middle-class white woman (represented by Abby) who acts as the face of much internet feminism, and her disconnect from the harsher lives of lower-class women (represented by Sapphire).

But knowing Tats, if it has any point at all, it'd be more like how sheltered rich girls who got it good (like Abby) don't realize how bad women as a class really have it, and why they need to be more actively feminist for the sake of their fellow women (like Sapphire).

Or if this weren't Sinfest and there wasn't necessarily some message about women in particular in here, I could charitably read this as message about how of course the well-to-do (men and women both) are optimists, they are sheltered from the shit that real people (men and women both) have to deal with.

The world shouldn't look so good for her.

I find it amazing how Absinthe can work directly for the freaking DEVIL and make it through the day without doing any evil things. She gets plenty of time to fuck around with Monique and ditch work at every opportunity, despite there being surveillance everywhere.

Or is Tats implying that being a lesbian is evil enough to fill her quota for the day?

I mean look at how much Fuchsia had to suffer through for her happy ending. And this ditz gets everything handed to her without effort? Ridiculously bad storytelling.

[up]I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with her being a lesbian at all, but it may very well have to do with the idealization of her relationship with Monique. They're shown as nothing but a happy, cute, romantic couple with no real problems, which kind of clashes with the tone of the rest of the strip.

In any case, this strip does something that always kind of irks me: we have Sapphire, a character who actually works as a stripper (which is a field that Ishida tries to be critical of), implying that her jaded and cynical outlook is due to her work...while Ishida makes no actual effort to give us any insight into how and why the life of a stripper is so bad.

(To be clear, I'm not in any way trying to imply that strippers don't have it bad at all; there are plenty of problems and issues they face that we should be discussing. However, Ishida doesn't get any points because he isn't actually mentioning any).

[up]I would posit that Tats adheres to the "show, don't tell" methodology, except he shows NOTHING and tells only BS.

[up][up]I was trying to be sarcastic in my "lesbians are evil" implication by Tats. My bad if it didn't come across that way!

The romantic idealization of lesbian relationships is what you see SJW's do a lot and I seriously hate it. It's not like lesbians are regular people right? They managed to free themselves from the terror of the penis demon! When they fart rainbows fill the room and unicorns come down from the Mystic Mountains to see where that delicious smell is coming from, just to bask in its glory for the short time it lingers.

It's what I see happening in Sinfest as well. Every time you see Monique and Abby interacting it's more diabetes inducing than a mountain of deep fried sugar. Hearts are everywhere, they stare at each other so very lovingly, hands touch ever so lightly, fucking hearts are swirling around Abby as she walks (nay, FLOATS!) down the streets. There is no dramatic tension, no conflicts to be won, no nothing. Just ever so perfect people being lovey dovey to each other.

In a way it's counterproductive to the acceptance of gay people since they can't be shown to be just like everyone else.

[up]I know that you were being sarcastic; I just meant that I think the lack of drama/conflict/tension in Absinthe and Monique's relationship has more to do with Tats trying to idealize this particular relationship than lesbian relationships in general (though I could be wrong; there aren't that many relationships in Sinfest to really tell sometimes).

The messed-up part is, I'm a huge fan of the Yuri genre, and even I'm put off by how fluffy and innocent the Absinthe/Monique pairing reads. I mean, there's nothing wrong with doing a light and cheerful romance story (I like those a lot, actually), but having one taking place in the world of Sinfest just feels like a huge tonal clash. Even Criminy and Fuchsia had several dramatic obstacles to overcome before becoming sweethearts; this pairing just feels rushed and kind of forced.

Y'know, if I was in charge of Devilcorp I'd be pretty damn annoyed Milton was wasting company resources like this. Seriously, is there not ANYTHING better those things could be doing? Watching for Sisterhood activity, scanning private documents, listening in on important meetings? No? Just panty shots?

I'm ALMOST starting to think Tats is trying to say women need to stop wearing skirts and dresses and switch to pants. Wouldn't be the first time a supposed male feminist was telling women how to think/feel/act.

I find it odd the women's only reaction is in the line of "EEEEK A MOUSE"!

My first reaction would be to stomp the damn things. Sapphire already showed it was possible, why is she the only one trying that? Or are the only STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMEN either kids in the Sisterhood or adults stripping for money?

I wonder what that says about the Sisterhood girls job prospects when they are grown up...

Sinfest may be more of a crapsack world then we realize! [lol]
