The real question is, whom do I go with last? I'd like for things to end on a high note, so Hanako sounds good why do I suddenly fear a tearjerker ending

That's why I'm saving her for last. Shizune goes first because I loved her Act 1 ending the most.
Emi interests me the least. Sorry Ibarazaki, you're just not poplar enough. Should I throw her in the middle then?

That's why I'm saving the other best for last. 
Though, you do have a point... it does feel like the one you end with is the more "real" result... But I'm so curious to see what happens with Riiiin. And I do think I'm gonna aim for 100% completion!

It's kind of the reverse for me. My first playthroughs feel like the "real" one, the succeeding ones are more of a parallel universe "what if"... thing.

Not Actually Indie
I think I'll probably start with someone I don't have much of an opinion on yet (maybe Emi?) to get a sense of how well done the game is and how much anticipation I should have for playing the other characters. If it's good enough, I'll play all the characters, saving my favorites for last. If it's merely okay, I'll skip straight to Rin and/or Hanako, and if I don't like it at all, I won't bother.

I had no idea that even existed; I only knew about the Shimmie.
It's a shame, since this is about ten times better. Makes me wish I had an ounce of artistic talent. Oh well
