Like, it doesn't really bother me, nor does it detract from my experience, but it's just the nitpickiest thing that exists

Started playing the Wii U version of Wind Waker today. It's not the first time I've played it - I played the Gamecube version once, but that was a long time ago and I never got around to finishing.

I was doing fine until I got to Dragon Roost Island and had to practice using the Wind Waker. When I got to the 4/4 part, it took me a while to get it right. The timing felt too fast, the metronome part wasn't making sense, and I had trouble paying attention to the metronome because my eyes were glued to the bit right below it with the directions I was supposed to be pressing. The fact that the game interrupts and gives you hints if you take too long just made it worse.

For some reason, I got frustrated to the point of screaming at the TV, and would have ragequit if the game had let me save first. That's...not something I normally do. I didn't get as much sleep last night as I normally do, so maybe that had something to do with it?

I think I remember having trouble getting the hang of it the first time I played the game, but I still feel ridiculous for having that much trouble with something so simple. Is this something that's known for being unintuitive, or is it just me?

I haven't played the Wii U version, but I remember it being pretty simple on Gamecube.

You also don't have to time the bit where you have to hold the stick in the direction of the notes. You can just hold it in a direction until the marker hits the middle of the bar and the respective note gets played, then you can simply hold the next direction until it gets played, and so on. At least that's how I usually did it when I played Wind Waker.

It seemed like the kind of thing that should have been simple, which was part of why it was so frustrating. It’s not that I have a bad sense of timing, either - I play rhythm games!

My best guess is that being tired meant my coordination was off, and since I tend to be more irritable when I’m tired, that would also explain why I got so frustrated. Although I was playing just fine up until that point, so...I don’t know.

I’ll see if it still gives me trouble after I get some rest.

Edit: Tried again and did what Jaryl suggested. That’s much easier. I must’ve been going about it the wrong way.

Trying to do the Deku Scrub Mini game. Currently doing the second day (already beat the first), but my timing is awful and I keep missing the first platform. It's annoying.

Eh. I got enough cash, and enough time. I'll get it.

If you pause buffer the game (rapidly pause and unpause), the platforms will move but the rupees won't. This will cause the rupees to fall onto the floor where you can grab them all before talking to the Deku Scrub. Once you do and start the minigame, it'll instantly end with you having won.

This works in the N64 version but I'm not sure about the 3DS one.

That's sounds like a glitch they'd have fixed for the 3ds version (which is the one I have).

Still, I might give it a try, unless someone tried it for the 3ds version and already knows it doesn't work.

It's not a glitch, it's more of an oversight. Certain things actually keep moving when the game's paused and those platforms happen to be one of them. The rupees, meanwhile, don't and they aren't actually attached to the platforms so they can be manipulated to fall off.

Another similar oversight involves the Honey and Darling minigame on... I wanna say Day 3. If you enter as a Deku, you'll have fewer targets to hit since the game expects you to be trying it with the Deku Bubble thing. However, you can just transform back into a human and do the easier version of the minigame with your bow.

It's amazing what you can learn when watching a 100% speedrun (it's long but very much worth it since the action is almost nonstop after the first cycle).

Right. So I sucked at the Zora Cape pot breaking game, so I did the cheat where you use the Powder Keg.

Meanwhile, where do I go to get some fish for the fish at the aquarium?

I'm supposed to feed them some smaller fish to make them larger, but I don't know where to find any.

There's a shallow pool not far from the Pirates' Fortress with fish in it.

Double post:

For two random things:

1) Outside of completing the Bombers Notebook and getting some money, is there any benefit to playing the lottery game in MM 3D?

2) This one is a more general Zelda question: For a long time, I've been looking around to see if anyone has drawn a more adult version of Toon Zelda? I'd have figured someone would have done it, but it seems everyone draws her...at the rather young age she appears to be and I'm a little irked. I've seen pictures of Adult versions of Toon Link, so it gets on my nerves that Zelda rarely gets the same treatment. The handful I have found are rather low quality (both have abnormally long arms despite being done by different people), or are done in a manner that makes age somewhat ambiguous.

So I'm asking this again here: anyone know where I could get a good pic of an older version of toon Zelda?

Oh. Thanks.

I've seen the Adult Tetra one, and I came across that Adult Medli pic just today.

Anyway, the Zelda pic is a little rough, but it's better than the ones I've seen before, so I'm good.

[up][up][up][up][up] The answer to your other question: No, it isn't worth it to do the lottery in MM 3 D except for 100% completion. There are so many other ways to collect rupees fast. The best way to do so is blowing up Bubbles with the Light Arrows.

Even other slow ways of earning rupees (scouring the world for chests, dog racing, hell, even grass chopping!) are faster than the lottery.

[up]Thanks. I suspected as much.

Also, if anyone else finds any more pics of Toon Zelda as an adult, let me know.

Edit: Full body pics preferred as well.

Double post:

Trying to do the Gorman race track in MM3D in order to get the Garo mask, but I've clearly completely forgotten how to beat them. They are ridiculously fast, and I can barely keep up with them while using all my carrots to make Epona go faster. What's the trick to this one again?

I don't recall there being a trick, really. You just keep towards the inside of the track and use your carrots moderately so you don't run out. Make sure you're going fast enough to jump fences, and maybe sometimes get right in front of the brothers to block them, if you're in a position to do so.
