I'm just excited Rusty is working on the musical again.

If you guys were hoping we'd get a cameo from the real David Bowie to appear as himself or something, you can start forgetting about it because he's dead. sadsadsad

This also makes the Sovereign's death pretty Harsher in Hindsight, eh?

Not really harsher. Everyone dies eventually.

He died with his name cleared of being the Sovereign! But he might still have been a Goblin King.

That's going to be awkward if Sovereign survived.

You know, I don't know if I can respect a guy who would play himself for Spongebob Squarepants, but not for Venture Bros. Sorry, David Bowie fans.

IIRC, the creators were amazed they could get Kevin Conroy for an episode. Outside of geek circles, he's a nobody.

They probably never even bothered to try getting Bowie with their budget.

[up] Actually, I think I remember reading somewhere that they actually tried to get Bowie, but they couldn't get a response from him on time so they got James Urbaniak to take over.

They actually talk about it on the DVD commentaries, and neither they nor their producer knows anyone, so it's hard for them to get celebrity voice actors. Many of the ones they have gotten were fans of the show, like Patton Oswald and Nathan Fillion.

If I recall right, David Bowie did his voice for Spongebob because his daughter was a fan of it.

I mean. By that logic, they should know folks now.

Like Patton Oswald and Nathan Fillion.

Do we know if we're getting anyone new this season? I know Fillion is returning.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

I remember them saying they blew most of their season 2 budget on that techno song in the first episode, so that could also be a factor.

For a while, they also weren't able to bring Stephen Colbert back in to voice Professor Impossible.

That is what I recall as well. Though the first episode they reprised the character without Colbert (or one of the times at least), it was one of their regulars.

The Wikia says...

  • Peter Mc Culloch (pilot)
  • Stephen Colbert (Seasons 1, 2, and 6)
  • Christopher Mc Culloch (Season 3)
  • Bill Hader (Season 4)

[up] If Professor Impossible shows up and speaks (he had a non-speaking cameo in the stinger for "Bot Seeks Bot"), then yes.

In other VB-related news, Season 6 is coming in exactly 10 days from now! Have a new trailer, courtesy of [adult swim]!

Er...why is the Captain Ersatz version of Captain America wearing heels?

Sounds like Clancy Brown as the guy who wants Rusty's soul. grin

So, is Night Dick like the Spirit?
