IGN's actually pretty good with their news articles. Slow, but good.
I'd love to see a traditional DK platformer again. Jungle Beat is cool, but.. tiring.

^That would be great

E3 2010: Retro Working on Donkey Kong Revival? - Wii News at IGN
I have a message from another time...Jungle Beat was great. Really though, new play control without bongos?
Jungle Beat actually felt like you were controlling a Gorilla. Yeah, Gorillas can't swim, or preform Parkour but I still like how situations that required careful approach and precise timing were few and far between in Jungle Beat.
Donkey Kong Country had a severe lack of Donkey Kong using strength and aggression to conquer his enemies and so did DK 64 since Chunky stole his thunder. Jungle Beat was the first Donkey Kong game where DK finally got to unleash the incredible Hulk and go Super Smash Bros on the world.
Donkey Kong Country was a classic series, and if a sequel will make the fans happy, so be it. But I think Jungle Beat is just as deserving of a sequel. 64 could be whipped clean and converted into a completely different non Donkey Kong related game that didn't have a Grandfather Clause for collecting bananas, fighting Kremlins, or blasting barrel cannons. It was a decent enough game but every series doesn't to translate into 3D.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackWell, DKC 1 did allow Donkey to Goomba Stomp Elite Mooks that Diddy couldn't touch.
I have a message from another time...It was. It was called Banjo-Kazooie. Or rather, B-K was whipped clean and converted into DK 64.
https://www.fanfiction.net/u/548347/Well, the majority of Rare's output in the 90's on the N64 was something Banjo Kazooie-ish. In addition to Banjo and DK, Jet Force Gemini had aspects of it (mostly in the collection) and so did Conker. Even Diddy Kong Racing had proto-aspects of it. (Again, collection.) The FPS games and Blast Corps were kind of the boddalls.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaWell, Donkey Kong Returns announced. Graphics suck and there doesn't seem to be a Kremling in sight, but as a ginormous fan of Rare and the Donkey Kong Country franchise in general, my expectations are high. Retro seems to be mixing and matching both the DKCVerse and elements from Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and that's a winning combination as far as I'm concerned.

I have a message from another time...Eh, it could be fun, but 2.5D platformers really leave a bad taste in my mouth. I'd rather they went the full 2D route with hand-drawn pixel art instead of hastily animated polygons.
I wouldn't mind a 3D title either, DK 64 had a lot of problems but it had a lot of good qualities as well.
When has DKC ever involved hand-drawn pixel art?
HELL YES.
My hope: Some musical remixes of the Donkey Kong Land-exclusive chiptunes. Pretty please with sugar on top?

Looks fun, though.

Game looks fucking amazing. Love it.
You are not alone, and you are not strange. You are you, and everyone has damage. Be the better person.^Never, but I was talking about 2.5D platformers in general.
Has Retro ever done a 2D game before. Give them credit for agreeing to work on a mostly 2D game. I find it odd that the went from Space to the Jungle.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.^^^^ I'm pretty sure that octopus was in the process of creating less pirates, but...
I have a message from another time...They are professionals, I don't have to give them credit for anything but making a good game.
It's so beautiful... I honestly would have preferred DK's return be in a 3D game, but, I'll take what I can get. This looks great, easily my most anticipated upcoming game.
Easy street has no parking signs.I don't know why I thought the graphics were bad before. Must have been a shoddy video. It now looks great!
I still miss those Kremlings, though. But, hey, it does have DK and Diddy vs. the reek. I honestly never thought I'd see the day.
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextSomething tells me this game is going to be Nintendo hard.
Two hearts? How much junk is going on that Retro expects you to get hit more than twice?
Maybe they reduced the number of DK barrels?

Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackIn the original games, the Kongs were One-Hit-Point Wonder-kind, and your only hope was to rescue your fellow Kong from a DK barrel. Two hearts seems pretty generous, considering that.

Take it with a grain of salt because it's IGN, but I doubt they'd post a cover story just a day before E3 unless they thought it was 100% true.
HOLY poo if true.
This is just what I wanted.
Some people in the industry at GAF are confirming this news...saying it's been a project since 2006.
Also, Retro's Twitter says we'll go "ape" for their next game.
