Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

moogle balthier would have been hilarious and i'm honestly sad that this wasn't a thing.
Just imagine all of Balthier's suave British Gimeon Emery lines said in the exact same silver tongued manner, but punctuated with Kupo.
I'm hoping a commercially successful XII HD will encourage them to return to Ivalice for a new game.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.You'd need a shot of insulin for his Tactics cameo.
Wait, playable Viera in FFXIV?
Ffffff. No. I'm committed to my Lalafell dude.
I have a message from another time..."Not many Viera where you come from thief?"
"My name's Vaan... Sorry."
We see lots of Viera in Rabanastre though especially in the C Gs, only Fran's tribe was really 'of the wood'.
It would have been nice for Viera to be in FFXIV, apparently they even made concept art for the male Viera, but yeah they abandoned it for the original race of Au Ra.

I still think Ivalice and Eorzea might have something to do wjth each other.
I have a message from another time...XIV is a Spiritual Sequel of XII.
x3 That was only for Ashe's wedding celebration, in the game proper the only Viera in Rabanastre are Ktjn and Krjn. All Viera are originally from the wood anyway, the only reason there are as many outside as there are is because wars burned down many of the ancestral forests forcing them to adapt to the Hume's way of life.
There is also concept art for a playable Beast Race they had before they made the Au Ra. Would like a less humanoid race for the next one, Au Ri are disappointingly Hyuran.
I'm a bit dissaponted you can't rename the Tactics Advance's default clansmen to their names from XII and in the Japanese version of Tactics Advance, I always thought that was a cute touch.

I might make the jump if they put out another small race I like.
What did the concept art look like?
If you don't mind cell phone pictures I can take a photo of the concept art.
In fairness, I would stare too if I saw Fran for the first time.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Works for me.
While those second ones look badass, I was under the impression that the Viera had a Stay in the Kitchen concept for the males, no? That might indicate them being physically weaker than the females.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.The beast race looks very Worgen like. I dig the viera concept art I've been able to find (that included) a lot more than I figured I would, too. His name doesn't come to mind right now, but if's that same guy I think it is he's a really great illustrator.

I think the official explanation was they are the gender segregated communities with the men being even more isolationist then the women and they only ever meet in emergencies or when they breed.
But I do like the idea of the smaller rabbit faced men Viera over the tall muscular barbarian rabbit ones even if they match the females better.
No, the male and females just form different tribes and only come in contact when needed or wanna get laid.

It was the Mithra from Final Fantasy XI that where Stay in the Kitchen I think.
I actually don't see the tougher looking female Viera making it in if they continue to add races based on what they assume the fanbase wants, considering the lack of popularity of Elezen and Roegaydn women, ostensibly since they're fairly tall and imposing unlike Hyur, Miqote, and Lalafell.
It's why the Au Ra women are so dimorphic.

The Elezen women really remind me a lot of the Viera circa FFXII now that I think about it with the whole Noodle People physique.

Interestingly, the literal Japanese name for the Burmecian race was "Rats". So Brahne and Kuja aren't racist; they're just purists.
But yeah, Spira definitely has a lot of racist undertones to everything, with how all of the races live in separate places, the Guado/Ronso/Al Bhed have one sports team that represents them while Spirans have several, "The Guado take care of Guado affairs./Let the Ronso handle their own problems.", "Ever the Ronso. Hard-headed, hardly useful.", subraces appeasement policy, etc.
It was actually pretty cool that times really were changing with that in X-2 if Yuna wills it.
It's not an exaggeration to say that Spira lives and dies by the will of Yuna. Seriously, look at the final Vegnagun fight.
It did bother me that we never see any races aside from Spirans and Al Bhed (who are basically Spirans with different eyes) involved in the two military factions, though. I mean, yeah, the Guado were in exile, but no Ronso care about the Youth League or New Yevon stuff at all? Nor the Hypello? The Peruperu?
Imagine if the entire party was different races sans Vaan and Ashe. Bagaa!Basch, Nu Mou!Penelo and Moogle!Balthier
