Final Fantasy general

Go To

Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Yes, it is quite easy to get 5* stuff with mythril (the odds probably are around 1/10), but I think the odds of getting a "generic" 5* item are higher than those getting a relic weapon.

Problem is, a lot of these generic items are armors, and while surviving is rather useful, the game rewards heavy hitting much more than effective defense with the "actions taken" medals.

God no, the odds are WAY worse than one in ten, seriously a 5 star anything is about 1 in 50.

I made, iirc, 8 or 9 11-items pulls, and only once did I get no 5 star. All the others I got 1 or 2 (mostly 1).

So I don't think it is 1 in 50.

But out of all my 5* items (15 if I am not mistaken, including the "free" Zantetsuken) I only have 1 Relic.

I've gotten four relics total, though two were Wakka's Blitzball. I've also gotten a fair amount of generic 5* stuff, so I've got options. Oh, and the tons of 3* relics that I've upgraded to 5*.

The annoying thing about the equipment, though, is that it seems heavily skewed towards certain types and realms. Way too many of my weapons are swords or rods, and far too many of those swords/rod are from VI or XII. Meanwhile, I have virtually nothing for I (a sword and armour that aren't combined), II (basically a couple of daggers and a shield), III (uh... Light Rod and an armour?) and XIII (at least I got the Kaiser Knuckles?).

Okay, something that bothers me about FFX. I put it on spoilers because it is about endgame content.

We know Tidus was created by the dream of the Fayth, but do we know where Jecht came from? I would assume it is the same for him, but in that case, how did he come to Spira in the first place? Was it the plan of the Fayth all along to have him become Sin, then have Tidus replace him, or was Jecht suppose to be the chosen one only to fail and for the Fayth to rely on Tidus instead? It's kinda blurry for me.

I don't think Dream Zanarkand crossing over into Spira was planned. It just happened and Jecht and Tidus were two people that did it. For all we know others made their way to Spira over time. They just didn't play as big of a role.

Dream Zanarkand, being basically the same thing as an Aeon, physically exists within Spira somewhere with Sin guarding it. Jecht just swam too far away and couldn't get back, as far as I'm aware.

It's out at sea somewhere. Presumably it's near Baaj temple, since that's where Tidus washed up.

... They explain it ingame, though they are kinda vague about it.

While it is out at sea, its kinda in the state of where the Aeons are when they are not summoned in battle. Meaning its there... you just can't find it. Auron was able to get there by "riding" Sin, due to being undead. Jecht and Tidus became 'real' when they touched Sin, Jecht encountered Sin when he was out training. Effectively Jecht and Tidus were Summoned but can't be dismissed cause all Yu Yevon knows is to summon.

[up][up] Not necessarily; Jecht presumably washed up around Bevelle, and his getting out seemingly was a fluke. Tidus, however, was specifically taken from Zanarkand by Jecht (and Auron), and Sin wasn't exactly far from Baaj when Tidus woke up and the Al Bhed came. My interpretation of events is that after dropping Auron off somewhere around Luca, Jecht deliberately went out of his to introduce Tidus to Spira as remotely from Bevelle's influence as possible. All it takes is Sin getting distracted by the Al Bhed for Jecht to overshoot the Besaid drop off, then give it a day or two for Jecht to regain (relative) control, pick up Tidus again, and get him to Besaid just in time for Yuna's pilgrimage. That in turn would explain why Sin just happens to be right there in between Besaid and Kilika when the party sets sail the next day, and the rest is history.

[up] IIRC, the Ultimania specifically states that Dream Zanarkand physically exists and Sin is patrolling Spira to ensure that nobody gets far enough or can get far enough (hence attacking whenever people become reliant on machina) to find it.

No wonder I couldn't understand the game's plot when I first played it. This is a game where the previous Calm seems to have lasted a decade, until you look reeeeally close and find it was only a few months.

Yeah, it's easy to forget that Tidus was still a little boy when Auron got to him. I think we actually had a discussion about Calm lengths just a few months ago.

It's not really made clear, but Sin's return was a few months after Braska's sacrifice a decade ago, relative to when the game starts. Sin's been making a mess for years by the time Tidus washes up in Spira.

I sure said that!

I think I misread the statement. I thought they were saying Braska's sacrifice was only a few months ago and Sin just popped up in the last few days.

About the only evidence I can think of that proves that there were few sacrifices is the number of Aeons, since each one was created by a final summoning.

So looking around the 'net it seems that most people feel that the FFVII remake adding a save-Aeris option would not be welcome. I was surprised at this; I thought it was still a pretty contentious issue.

[up][up]They were? I thought the Final Summon was a special summon unique to each person. The ordinary Aeons were just preparation for it.

[up]I agree. It would be like adding the option to save General Leo or Tidus in their games.

I mean, I'd be all for it being possible to re-recruit Aerith as a Lifestream Ghost or something late in the game, but that's mostly my desire for her unusual-for-VII Limit Breaks talking.

The ending would still require her walking off with Zack into the pale-blue night, though.

If they added some kind of optional post-game dungeon I'd be fine with making her a member of your party in that. Just leave her out of the main story.

This might sound odd, but I'd like the game to have a Cloud-does-not-have-to-always-be-in-the-party feature. It's annoying only having freedom with two character slots.
